Chapter 157: Truly Ruthless

Ryan, after receiving Erick's call, was indeed furious. While calling Wyatt to deal with Erick, he also had his wife call her father. After Ruby called Quinn, he merely responded with a grunt.

Ruby, having heard from Ryan that Matthew had prepared to arrest Henry but was ordered to release him by the police chief, didn't think Quinn would intervene. Suspecting Henry had powerful backing, she called Victoria to learn more about Henry indirectly.

Victoria confirmed that Henry had connections but didn't know who they were. She explained that Henry was a decent person, even recounting how she had once angered Henry, who wanted her dead, but later, after resolving the misunderstanding, he made her the hall manager.

Ruby then asked about her brother's shares, but Victoria couldn't provide an answer, promising to inquire.

After receiving his daughter-in-law's call, Quinn, outwardly calm, immediately called his son. Upon hearing about Henry, Quinn was incensed. Having retired only a few years ago, he felt his authority in Harbor Springs was being undermined. Someone had assaulted a member of the Anderson family, and others were defending the assailant. Quinn felt personally attacked.

He called the city leader, complaining loudly, leaving the leader bewildered, as he knew nothing of the incident. Quinn then drove to the police chief's office, demanding Matthew arrest Henry. The chief, who owed his position to Quinn, had no choice but to comply.

Quinn asked the chief who had called him, but the chief didn't reveal it. During Kevin's tenure as police chief, Quinn had been his deputy, and they had worked well together, with Quinn supporting Kevin. After Kevin's departure, Quinn had recommended him for a federal position. However, once Quinn became chief, he replaced Kevin's appointees with his own.

Though they didn't openly clash, their relationship soured. The current chief, aware of this, didn't want to further anger Quinn by revealing the caller's identity.

Matthew, understanding the situation, couldn't explain it to Henry, only advising him not to make the call, as it would put the chief in a difficult position.

Henry nodded, "In that case, I won't call. I just want to know Quentin's injury level. If there's no forensic report or his injuries aren't severe, you can only hold me for 24 hours. Although you didn't say it, I know this is a higher-up conflict. I can avoid escalating it, but you don't need to antagonize me. Even if my call doesn't help, if the person I call learns you mistreated me, you know what could happen."

Matthew stared at Henry, speechless. Quentin's injuries weren't severe enough to warrant serious charges, and Henry indeed had connections.

Ella interjected, "Enough talk. We still need to take your statement."

She sat across from Henry, opened her folder, and began, "Name?"

"Henry."

Henry admitted to everything, including hitting Quentin, without offering reasons, essentially saying, "This is the situation; deal with it."

After finishing the statement, Ella looked at Matthew. He asked her to step outside, then called the police chief. The chief told him to wait, likely calling Quinn. After a while, the chief called back, instructing Matthew to follow standard procedures.

Matthew understood that Quinn wanted to save face. Henry had been arrested and confessed to the assault, which was enough for Quinn. How to handle it from there wasn't his concern.

Matthew told Ella, "Let's bring Quentin in for mediation."

Ella agreed. Matthew called Quentin, then asked Ella, "What's with you today?"

Ella feigned ignorance, "What do you mean?"

"I think you were a bit harsh with Ryan."

Ella defended herself, "At the bar, we saw Henry send a text, and the top boss called you. If we don't restrain Ryan and something happens to Henry, what about you?"

Matthew conceded her point but wasn't convinced. Ella's impulsiveness suggested a special relationship with Henry, not just fear of reprimand.

Matthew probed, "It seems Henry is special to you?"

Ella glared at him, "Ask him yourself!"

She walked back to the interrogation room. Later, Ruby arrived with Quentin. Quentin, terrified of Henry, had called his sister and Ryan for backup.

Seeing Henry, Ruby felt a chill. She thought: No wonder Quentin is scared. This kid's gaze is so cold. Even calm, he sends shivers down your spine. If he gets angry, who knows what he'll do?

Quentin had told Ruby and Ryan about Henry using a Desert Eagle to incapacitate Zachary, making Ryan nervous and Ruby believe Henry was truly ruthless. Victoria's words about Henry becoming a top figure in Harbor Springs seemed more credible.

Henry was also surprised to see Ruby.
