Chapter 137: The Story Continues
Hearing Emily's footsteps, Henry felt both nervous and excited. Holding his phone, he kept glancing at the door, silently praying, "Come in, come in..."
To his surprise, Emily actually walked in. Henry's face turned red, and his heart raced. He couldn't pretend any longer. Emily was already in the room; ignoring her would be too fake.
After a moment's hesitation, Henry got up, facing Emily with a forced smile, and greeted her, "Hi."
Henry didn't want to call her "sister-in-law" anymore. Besides his ulterior motives, he was trying to remove Andrew from his life. Emily, sensitive to this, noticed that Henry hadn't called her "sister-in-law" since he arrived. In the past, she might have thought it rude, but today was different. She sensed Henry's emotions were in turmoil, just like her own.
She could feel Henry's tension and excitement, and he was trying hard to control his emotions. She was doing the same, and Henry could see it too. Despite her light makeup and efforts to remain calm, Henry noticed the blush on her cheeks, revealing her hidden feelings.
"Oh, sit down," Emily smiled. "Your brother is worried you might be upset with him, so he asked me to find out what happened today. Did you really go to see Jason and threaten him?"
Hearing her mention Andrew, Henry's initial excitement faded, and his face turned serious. He sighed and sat on the bed.
Emily walked over, bringing a refreshing scent that made Henry's body react intensely. Emily immediately understood and changed the subject, "Maybe you misunderstood Andrew. I asked him about it, and from his expression, it seemed he had no idea Jason had any ill intentions towards me. Honestly, if you hadn't been so certain, I wouldn't have believed it either."
Henry snorted, "You don't know Jason well enough. He's a schemer and knows how to play the long game. If he had no interest in you, why didn't he tell you about my visit, and why did he insist on coming to your house for dinner? As for Andrew, you don't know him either. Back in the village, to achieve his goals, he betrayed the woman I loved most."
Emily widened her eyes, thinking: I know you like me, but I didn't know you'd smear Andrew to achieve your goals. You've already told me so much about Andrew that I've grown to dislike him. There's no need to pile on more accusations.
Seeing Emily's expression, Henry continued, "There was a village beauty named Leon. She was very attractive, with fair skin and a good temperament, standing out even in ordinary clothes. You could spot her from afar among the village women."
Emily pouted, "Was she that beautiful? Did you also have a crush on her?"
Henry smiled slightly, then returned to his serious tone, "Compared to the villagers, yes. But compared to you or most women in Harbor Springs, she was quite ordinary."
Emily smiled sweetly, "What happened next?"
Henry said, "Andrew was the best student in the village and the most refined. Leon liked him, and he liked her too. One time, Leon was bathing at home and saw Andrew peeking from the woods. After that, she deliberately left the window open wider when she bathed, and Andrew enjoyed watching her almost daily."
Young men's fantasies about young women are normal. From a moral standpoint, Andrew's peeping was perverted. But Emily, a university lecturer who understood psychology, knew this was a common experience for many young men. Everyone has a voyeuristic tendency, but some can control it while others cannot. From a human perspective, Andrew's actions at that age could be understood.
"Is that all?"
Emily asked nonchalantly, thinking of the towel she found on the sink. Although Henry might have placed it there unintentionally, it technically counted as peeping. She worried that dismissing Andrew's behavior might give Henry a complex.
Henry was surprised that Emily, who seemed so virtuous, was so open-minded and didn't mind Andrew's peeping. He felt relieved, thinking she might have noticed the towel he placed and didn't mind.
Henry laughed awkwardly, explaining, "I mentioned this to lead into the next part of the story. Our village head Joshua's son, Austin, although he mingled with many girls and often brought flashy girls to the village, secretly liked Leon. He brought those girls to show off in front of Leon, hoping to impress her. But being young, he didn't realize this only made Leon dislike him more and chase after Andrew."
Emily nodded and naturally sat down next to Henry, asking, "What happened next?"
