Chapter 186: A Pleasant Surprise
Henry initially thought the girl had no impression of him, but now he understood. Because she knew Avery and saw him helping Avery, she remembered him. He wasn't sure if she knew he was the one who had protected her from being crowded on the bus. In Henry's memory, the girl hadn't looked at him once from the moment she got on the bus to the moment she got off.
Seeing that the girl was kind-hearted and liked to stand up for others, Henry couldn't help but think of his younger self.
"Alright." After giving his phone number to the girl, Henry asked, "What's your name?"
The girl glanced at him, saw him staring at her, and blushed, lowering her head as if she were entering his number, though she had already finished.
Henry realized she misunderstood and said, "I mean, you should call my phone so I can save your name. Otherwise, if you call me tomorrow, I usually don't answer calls from unknown numbers."
The girl quickly dialed Henry's number and said, "Ivy," before turning and running across the street to catch up with her classmates. Seeing her shy demeanor, Henry smiled knowingly, recalling how his female classmates used to be just as innocent and adorable when they first started to fall in love.
At 24, if Henry wanted to pursue a girl, 18-year-old Ivy would be just right. But Henry had matured early and was now mostly involved with older women. Even Isabelle, who first sparked his romantic feelings, was only a month younger than him. Despite that, he still found Isabelle too naive. So, in his eyes, 18-year-old Ivy was just a little girl, and he had no further thoughts.
Moreover, his heart was entirely occupied by Emily.
As Ivy almost caught up with her classmates, she suddenly remembered she hadn't asked for Henry's name. She thought for a moment and entered "Uncle" in her phone, then giggled.
When Henry entered the neighborhood, he looked around for Victoria's car but didn't see it even when he reached the building entrance. After checking all the rooms at home and finding no sign of anyone having been there, he concluded that Victoria hadn't arrived yet. He had considered calling her but figured that if she did come and didn't find him, she would call.
Henry walked to his bed, placed the condoms under the mattress, and lay down, thinking that spending the night with Victoria shouldn't be a problem. He didn't believe he was unlucky enough to catch something from one encounter, especially since he had prepared condoms.
Henry alternated between watching TV and looking at his phone, and before he knew it, it was past midnight. He thought that Victoria might be late because the bar was busy, so he decided to wait a bit longer. By nearly 1 AM, there was still no sign of her, and Henry yawned.
He was sure Victoria wouldn't stand him up; she must have been delayed by something. Suddenly, he remembered being followed by Tristan's men in the afternoon. Could they have recognized Victoria's car and were waiting for her at the bar?
Thinking this, he picked up his phone to call Victoria, but then the doorbell rang—it was the video intercom from the building entrance. He immediately grabbed his Desert Eagle, in case Victoria was being coerced, and ran barefoot to the door. When he saw Ruby in a dress and carrying a small bag on the screen, he was pleasantly surprised.
He quickly opened the main door, saw Ruby enter without anyone following, put away his gun, and opened the apartment door, walking to the elevator. When the elevator opened, Henry was about to greet Ruby, but she rushed out, wrapped her arms around his neck, and kissed him passionately, her legs wrapped around his waist.
Wow! The seemingly demure Ruby was so bold? But Henry liked it!
He carried her into the apartment, closed the door, and headed straight to the bedroom, throwing Ruby onto the bed. It was Henry's first time, and he was eager to impress Ruby, showing her that he was better than her husband. He kissed her passionately, like a mad tiger.
Ruby frowned but endured it. She had been on the evening shift and was shocked by Henry's sudden appearance at the hospital that afternoon. She had always hoped Ryan would act like Henry did today, showing up unannounced and confronting her oppressors with a weapon. But that had never happened, and today it was Henry, while her husband had wet the bed.
She had been in a daze all afternoon. Leaving the hospital, she called Victoria, saying she wanted to invite Henry for tea.
Victoria knew Henry was in need of a woman and guessed Ruby was impressed by Henry's display. The scene at the hospital would have impressed any woman. After all, Victoria had told Ruby a lot the night before, so Ruby's intentions were clear. Victoria told her, "Sis, this isn't a date. For a woman, the best way to resolve issues with a man is in bed."
Ruby fell silent. Victoria continued, "I know you're worried about being seen at a hotel or your place. Come to my place. I have an empty apartment at the Supreme Residence where he's staying."
Ruby was startled: Are they already living together?
"Your place?" Victoria clarified, "Don't worry. Henry may be young, but he's not desperate. He doesn't even look at the young, pretty hostesses at the bar, let alone someone like me. Honestly, he might still be a virgin. If you go, it might be his first time."
Ruby blushed, hesitated, and then decided, "Give me your key."
Victoria smiled, "What are you thinking? Do you think he'd let me come and go as I please? I gave him all the keys. If you've decided, I'll call his brother."
"No need," Ruby said. "Just give me the building and apartment number. I'll go tonight."
Wow, so bold? Victoria gave Ruby the details, and Ruby thanked her before hanging up. Victoria didn't say anything at first, but by 8 PM, she couldn't resist texting Ruby: "Got it done?"
Ruby replied, "I'm on the night shift tonight, swapped with someone. I'm at the hospital now, will go after my shift."
Victoria then called Henry to inform him of the favor.
