Chapter 28 Apologizing on One's Knees

Henry said expressionlessly, "I've told you, I'll give you an answer tomorrow."

"What answer?"

"Weren't you asking me why I called you a whore?" Henry continued, "If I can prove that you are one, it won't be me who leaves tomorrow, but you!"

Emily looked at him in bewilderment, wondering, "How can he prove that I'm a whore? I haven't cheated on anyone or fooled around."

He had just met with Erick and the others. How did he come back and suddenly change, insisting on proving that she was a whore? Did Erick say something to him?

The problem was, Emily didn't even know Erick, so she couldn't imagine what he might have said to Henry.

"Alright," Emily held back her anger and asked, "What if you can't prove it tomorrow?"

Henry replied, "I'll kneel down and apologize to you!"

"Is that a promise?"

"Andrew knows that I never say things I can't do. If I say it, I will do it!"

"Fine, we'll see tomorrow then."

Emily was genuinely curious why Henry suddenly wanted to prove this. Did he think I'm pretty, and does he believe that beautiful women are always trouble? Though this idea was too childish, the fact that he could think this way at least indicated one thing: in his heart, he must consider himself the most beautiful woman in the world, or at least one of them.

Thinking this, Emily felt a bit pleased with herself. She had never done anything to betray Andrew, so Henry wouldn't be able to find any evidence. She wanted to see if Henry would really kneel before her.

From another perspective, it was strange how he came up with the idea that she was a whore and then wanted to punish himself on Andrew's behalf. This showed that deep down, he still acknowledged Andrew as his brother.

Emily turned and went to the kitchen to cook. Andrew had never cooked or prepared a meal, so he had bought ready-made dishes.

When he came back and heard sounds from the kitchen, he peeked in and saw Henry still lying in bed, just as he had left him.

Entering the kitchen, he saw Emily busy at the stove. He quickly put down the dishes and went over to hug her from behind, rubbing his body against hers, and whispered in her ear, "Darling, why were you so angry just now?"

Emily ignored him and continued with her work.

"I knew you had a kind heart. You knew I couldn't cook, and you didn't want to see both of us go hungry," Andrew said.

Still not responding to him, Emily kept herself busy.

Andrew then went to Henry's door and said, "Henry, take a rest. The food will be ready soon."

Henry grunted and turned his head to look at Andrew, feeling like there was a green field growing on top of his head.

Pitiful people are often hateful! Henry sighed inwardly.

During the meal, Andrew seemed excited. He ate while asking Henry about what had just happened.

Emily also wanted to know what had happened, but she remained silent, eating with her head down.

Henry had no intention of engaging with Andrew and just gave vague responses.

Andrew didn't seem to mind and finally asked, "Erick won't come looking for you again, right?"

Henry grunted in response.

Andrew nodded and said, "That's good. It seems Jason keeps his word. Tomorrow, my wife and I should thank him properly."

A faint smile appeared on Henry's lips, but in his mind, he cursed, "You fool. You don't even realize you've been betrayed, and yet you want to thank him?"

After finishing the meal, Andrew sat on the sofa watching TV, while Emily went to the kitchen to wash the dishes.

Henry got up and headed outside.

"Where are you going, Henry?" Andrew asked.

"Just taking a walk."

"Oh, let me give you the keys," Andrew said, returning to the room and taking a key from the bedside table, handing it to Henry.

Taking the key without a word, Henry left.

As he passed by the kitchen window, Emily glanced at him and saw him walking straight towards the exit of the community.

After finishing washing the pots and pans, Emily started mopping the floor.

At that moment, Andrew said, "Darling, Jason has really helped this time. Besides my promotion, he also sorted out the matter with Erick for Henry. How about we invite him over for dinner in a few days?"

Emily thought they were talking about inviting both Jason and his wife, so she said, "Why invite them home? Let's go to a restaurant! Jason and Avery often eat out, and I doubt they would enjoy my cooking."

A sly look flashed in Andrew's eyes as he said, "I mean we should invite Jason alone. Besides, he's probably tired of eating out every day. What should we cook for him? Maybe he'll really appreciate it!"

Unaware that Andrew had made a deal with Jason, Emily didn't say anything more. She was still preoccupied with Henry's sudden suspicion of her loyalty to Andrew and didn't pay much attention to what Andrew was suggesting.

Seeing Emily's agreement, Andrew suddenly said, "Why don't you find some time to go around the school and see if there are any suitable one-bedroom apartments for Henry? It would be convenient for him to rent a place near the school since Jason arranged for him to work as a security guard there."

"Why?" Emily asked.

"Avery mentioned having Jason arrange for Henry to work as a security guard at the school. It would be convenient for him to have an apartment nearby for easy commuting."

Emily replied, "He's new here and has no one to rely on. Everyone else thinks you and Henry are real brothers. We can consider it later, but it's not suitable to have him stay outside right after he arrived."

Andrew was taken aback, thinking that Emily would be eager, but he didn't expect her to disagree.
