Chapter 200: I Am a Virgin
Henry didn't know that if it weren't for Isabelle, Emily wouldn't have thought to call him so soon. Recently, Isabelle, who had been quiet for a while, started walking around upstairs in her slippers, making loud noises on purpose. Andrew was clueless, but Emily knew what was going on. She sent Isabelle a message: "Henry has moved out. We need to prepare lessons at night. Can you wear different slippers?"
The noise stopped immediately.
Today at noon, Isabelle went to the bar, intending to run into Henry by pretending it was a chance encounter. Instead, she saw Emily collecting money at the bar alone, without Henry. Growing impatient, she ran to Emily's car, shouting, "Sister-in-law, wait for me!"
Seeing it was her, Emily, who had already started the car, had to wait.
"What a coincidence," Isabelle said as she got in. "I was just shopping and saw you. Are you heading home?"
Emily asked, "Are you here to see Henry? He hasn't been here lately; I don't know what he's busy with."
Isabelle smiled awkwardly but said nothing.
Emily continued, "What, did you have a fight with Bryan? Hasn't he been visiting you every night?"
Isabelle pouted, pretending to touch her face to block Emily's view.
Emily said, "Sis, don't blame me for being blunt. You've helped Henry a lot, and I shouldn't be so ungrateful. But I heard from Henry that you and Bryan have reconciled. Bryan's marriage to Victoria is fake, and he plans to marry you eventually. If that's the case, you should either wait for Bryan wholeheartedly or break up with him. Running to Henry every time you have a fight with Bryan could lead to big trouble. Bryan is a rich kid; he won't tolerate being cheated on. You know Henry's temper. If things get heated, he might kill Bryan, and you won't benefit from that."
"It's not like that, sister-in-law. I'm not that kind of person. I... I... I don't even know how to explain it to you!"
By this time, they had reached the bank. Emily asked Isabelle to wait in the car while she deposited the money. Then she drove home and took Isabelle inside.
"Sis," Emily said, "I'm not one to meddle in other people's business or gossip. But your situation involves Henry, and as his sister-in-law, I have to ask. Although we had our differences, we've resolved them recently, and I genuinely like you. I even accepted you as Henry's girlfriend. But Henry told me personally that nothing ever happened between you two, and nothing will in the future. If you have something to say, you should call him directly, not try to manipulate him like this."
Isabelle smiled bitterly, "Sister-in-law, I'm not trying to manipulate Henry. I'll tell you the truth, but please don't laugh at me."
"Why would I laugh at you?"
"Actually, you summed up my situation with Bryan well. I'm just waiting. Bryan has kept his promise, never getting involved with Victoria and meeting me every day. But... but..."
Emily shook her head, "Sis, you've come this far. Why hesitate?"
Isabelle bit her lip, as if making a big decision, and said, "But recently, I've found Bryan to be very hypocritical and unreliable. True, he has nothing to do with Victoria, but he has many other girlfriends. Girls call him every day. He puts his phone on silent, thinking I don't know."
Emily looked at her, puzzled, "You don't want Henry to confront him, do you?"
"No, no. If that were the case, I'd call Henry directly!" Isabelle pouted. "Besides Bryan being hypocritical and unreliable, I find I'm completely incompatible with him. For some reason, whenever he's around, I see Henry's shadow. No matter what Bryan does, I think of Henry. I feel that if it were Henry, he wouldn't treat me like this. Sister-in-law, to be honest, every night when I lie in bed, I think of Henry. I'm not afraid to admit it. Bryan is always clean, wearing men's cologne. But for some reason, I prefer Henry's sweaty smell."
After saying this, she blew her bangs with a pout, looking embarrassed and making a self-deprecating face.
Emily believed her because she also liked Henry's strong sweaty smell.
"So, you want to be with Henry?"
Isabelle shook her head, "Not exactly. Although I like Henry, I know my family wouldn't approve. My family and friends are thrilled about my relationship with Bryan, as if we hit the jackpot. But now, I can't stand being with Bryan. Whenever I see him, I can't help but look for Henry's shadow in him. That's why I want to see Henry but don't dare to tell him directly. I've told him about my family situation and used that as a reason to reject his advances. Now I want to go back but can't make up my mind, mainly because I can't explain it to my family. What should I do, sister-in-law?"
Emily finally understood. She stared at Isabelle and asked, "Tell me honestly, has Henry ever touched you? You know what I mean. Have you slept with him?"
Isabelle shook her head vigorously, "No, absolutely not!"
Emily nodded, "Although our family is ordinary and can't compare to the Davis Family, we are traditional. Especially Henry's family in the countryside, they value a woman's chastity highly. You've been with Bryan for years. Maybe Henry wouldn't mind in a moment of passion, but after marriage, knowing you're not a virgin..."
Isabelle's eyes widened, "Sister-in-law, don't get me wrong. I'm not unwanted. I'm still a virgin. Bryan has never touched me. I've studied psychology. So, I have boundaries with Bryan. You probably don't know, but the apartment upstairs was bought by Bryan. Even so, I never let him touch me!"
