Chapter 44 Unexpected Happenings.
Emily was a little surprised. She thought Henry would suspect that Jason was behind all this, just like her. She had just finished a phone call and realized that she had no grudges with Jason, and she was even best friends with his wife, Avery.
In the afternoon, while they were walking on the street, Henry had even helped Avery. It didn't make sense for Jason to do something so unreasonable. To her surprise, Henry understood Jason better than she did. She had wanted to explain it to Henry, but after hearing what he said, explanations seemed unnecessary.
What she didn't expect was that Henry's plan for revenge included Jason and even implicated her in some way. "I also asked about your job, and Jason said there's no problem. You can go back to work once you're discharged," Henry said gratefully.
"It's nothing. Both of them are leaders, and they are good people. They have a good relationship with your brother and me," Emily replied. After speaking, she took out a brand new phone from her bag, a gift from Andrew on her birthday three months ago, which she had never used.
Emily already had two SIM cards, so she put one of them in the new phone and handed it to Henry for temporary use before leaving. When she got back home, she found Andrew still awake, sitting in the study, staring at the computer, waiting for her.
"You're back?" Andrew asked as Emily entered. Ignoring him, she closed the door and headed straight to the bedroom. Andrew knew she must have gone to the hospital, and he felt a mix of emotions, but since Emily didn't say anything, he didn't bring it up.
After shutting down the computer, Andrew returned to the bedroom. Emily was already lying on her side, facing the inside. After lying down next to her for a while, Andrew spoke up, "We've been more than accommodating to Henry. He caused such a big mess, making us kneel there for half a day and even compensating him with six hundred thousand."
"He probably won't be able to repay that in his lifetime, so we don't owe him anything," Andrew continued. Emily remained silent. "By the way, Jason called just now and explained a lot. It seems like Erick deceived him. Jason wouldn't deceive us, it doesn't make sense!"
Seeing no reaction from Emily, Andrew, feeling uninterested, went to sleep. However, Emily kept her eyes open in the darkness. After Emily left, Isabelle suddenly sat up and moved to the edge of Henry's bed. With delicate fingers, she pointed at his nose and asked, "Tell me, do you have an inappropriate relationship with your sister-in-law?"
Henry furrowed his brows and asked, "What do you mean?" "Don't deny it!" Isabelle said. "Don't say she came to the hospital just because she was worried about you. Your bond with your brother is stronger, right? It's late at night, and your brother didn't come, but she did. She must be afraid that your brother would find out something. She sneaked over after he fell asleep, but she didn't expect me to be here. Isn't that right?"
Henry countered, "How did you know I was at the hospital?" Isabelle's eyes shifted, and she said, "I couldn't sleep after sobering up. I felt more and more aggrieved, so I went downstairs to take a walk in the neighborhood. I happened to run into your brother and sister-in-law, and your brother told me."
"That makes sense," Henry said. "We had a disagreement this morning, and you came to see me at the hospital in the evening. My sister-in-law must be worried that you might harm me, so she came to check on me." Isabelle nodded and then said, "No! You're changing the subject. I'm not asking why she came. I'm asking why she came alone. Even if she's worried that I might harm you, shouldn't your brother accompany her? It's late at night. Can your brother really rest assured if he knows she's out?"
Henry didn't want to explain originally because when it came to matters between men and women, the more you explained, the more confusing it became, and it could even make things worse. But Isabelle was different. He still wanted to prove his "innocence" in front of Isabelle. So he told Isabelle about his true relationship with Andrew.
After listening, Isabelle's mouth formed an "O" shape, and she kept nodding, thinking to herself: No wonder the brothers don't look alike at all, and their personalities are so different. So they're not biological brothers? Henry continued to explain, "At the bar, Charles extorted 600,000 from us. My brother was reluctant and wanted to negotiate with him. My sister-in-law saw that my life was in danger and gave the money directly to Charles.
In this matter, my sister-in-law probably has some opinions about my brother. And given our relationship, no matter what you say, my brother and sister-in-law probably won't believe it. But as soon as you asked, my brother told you which hospital I was in. Isn't he afraid that you'll call Sean and retaliate against me? This can only mean that my brother's thoughts are not on me at all. Maybe it's because of this situation that my sister-in-law is still worried and came to the hospital alone to see me."
