Chapter 187: The Feeling of First Love

Ruby was determined. After all, she had thrown tea in Henry's face at the teahouse. Meeting in the middle of the night to explain things would be redundant. And now, it was already past midnight. Going to a bachelor's home at this hour wasn't just for an apology and waiting for him to make the first move. She had already delivered herself to his door; why be coy?

When the elevator doors opened and she saw Henry standing there, she decided to be proactive to avoid any awkward greetings. Her bold move surprised Henry, but it was a pleasant surprise.

Ruby's wild actions were met with an even wilder response from Henry. But Ruby wasn't one to be outdone; she had to conquer Henry in bed. As a doctor and a woman with a cleanliness obsession, she was used to Ryan's cleanliness and cologne. But Henry's unfamiliar, strong masculine scent was initially off-putting.

However, Ruby soon found that Henry's scent was like the first taste of strong liquor—initially harsh and bitter but increasingly addictive. At first, she found Henry's scent jarring, but as he threw her onto the bed and she smelled the stronger scent from his bedding, she began to find it sweet.

Ruby's wildness matched Henry's. To her surprise and delight, Victoria's prediction was correct: Henry was indeed a virgin. This made Ruby feel even more justified. Besides the perverse things Victoria had mentioned about Ryan, Henry's innocence proved that Ryan hadn't been a virgin when they first got together, unlike Ruby.

The bed creaked all night long, seemingly never stopping.

When Henry woke up the next day, it was already noon. He saw no sign of Ruby. He remembered they had done it three times that night and thought Ruby would be exhausted and still in bed, but she was gone. Feeling the temperature of the bed, he knew she had left a while ago.

The memories of the night were fresh. Despite the three rounds, they hadn't exchanged a single word. During the breaks, Henry tried to chat to ease the awkwardness, saying things like, "Why did you come so late?" "Sorry if I scared you this afternoon," and "You're so beautiful. The joy you brought me is unforgettable." But Ruby remained silent.

She either clung to him like a bird or nestled in his arms when he wasn't on top of her. Though she was gone, her scent lingered in the bedding. Henry called Ruby's phone.

Despite sleeping only two hours, Ruby was energetic at work, even more so than usual. Her colleagues noticed and joked about her looking ready to have a second child, but she just smiled and didn't answer. Sitting in her office, she often laughed to herself, recalling Henry's eager yet clumsy manner, feeling like a girl in love.

She wanted to thank Victoria. Victoria wasn't an outsider in this matter, and Ruby felt it would be rude not to inform her. Plus, she couldn't share her joy with anyone else, and Victoria was her best confidante. But knowing Victoria worked late, she decided not to call in the morning, savoring her memories alone.

The phone ringing startled her. Seeing it was Henry, she sighed in relief and answered but didn't speak immediately.

"Hello, is this Big Sis?" Henry's voice was so warm and masculine, not scary at all.

Ruby just said, "Mm," and twirled a pen between her fingers.

"Why did you leave so early? I thought last night was a dream!"

Ruby wanted to say, "It's been days, how is this early?" But she knew Henry might be feeling romantic, so she decided to see how he behaved. She wanted to relive the feeling of first love. Imagining herself as a shy girl, she smiled but said nothing.

Without a response, Henry didn't know what to say next. "Hello, Big Sis, are you listening?"

Ruby smiled slightly and said, "Yes."

"Oh," Henry thought for a moment. "You're really beautiful, and you smell so good. You've given me a memory I'll never forget."

He paused, hoping for a response, any response, but Ruby remained silent.

"Hello, can you hear me?"

Ruby imagined Henry looking silly, smiled, and restrained herself, saying briefly, "Listening."

Henry was puzzled. She was wild in bed but so reserved on the phone? If she was shy face-to-face, why now? This was killing the conversation!

Out of topics, Henry asked, "Are you coming tonight?"

Ruby smiled but didn't answer.

Henry continued, "I miss you!"

Ruby bit her lip, still silent, imagining Henry's confusion and finding it amusing.

"Big Sis, I..."

Just then, a nurse called, "Ruby, Ruby!"

Ruby's smile vanished. "I have something to do. Bye!" She hung up.

Henry heard the nurse but still looked at his phone, shaking his head. "What do you mean, 'I have something to do'? We never really talked!"
