Chapter 12 Emily is a little proud.

Andrew awkwardly glanced at Henry and forced a smile, but Henry remained composed, eating his meal without a word. Andrew thought Henry was saving face for him, but little did he know that Emily's accidental touch had thrown Henry's thoughts into disarray.

Though Emily's touch had been unintentional, seeing Henry eating in silence with a seemingly calm expression, his eyes betrayed a hint of confusion. She couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction. Despite his tough exterior, it seemed that Henry, like any man, couldn't resist a woman's allure.

In that moment, Emily became almost certain that Henry's heart had already fallen for Isabelle. Though Emily herself had no particular fondness for Isabelle, she couldn't deny that Isabelle was a beauty, albeit one who lacked self-respect and had let herself go.

As they finished their meal, the sound of footsteps descending the stairs outside signaled Isabelle's arrival. Emily and Andrew immediately recognized her footsteps. Seeing Isabelle pass by the window, Andrew suddenly turned to Emily and said, "Oh, I have something to attend to. I'll be right back."

Emily understood Andrew's intentions. He was surely going to find Isabelle and have a talk with her, so she simply nodded in response. Once Andrew left, Emily no longer felt the previous fear towards Henry.

They say a sister-in-law is like a mother. Though they weren't blood-related, Emily now saw Henry as her mischievous little brother. "Henry," Emily said, "after I finish washing the dishes, you're coming with me to the shopping street."

Henry remained expressionless, not uttering a word. Emily continued, "Your clothes are a mess. Tomorrow, we're meeting your brother, right? With those clothes, you'll only embarrass him!"

Still, Henry stayed silent. Emily added, "Girls in the city have high standards, especially someone as pretty as Isabelle. In those clothes, she won't even spare you a glance!"

Wow, she's good. I just made my move, and she can already tell I like Isabelle? Henry's face turned red as he retorted, "So what if she looks? Have I never seen a girl before?"

Emily, holding the dishes and plates, looked at Henry and said, "You've never seen a girl like her, especially not one as beautiful as she is."

With that, Emily disdainfully turned her head and walked towards the kitchen. Her demeanor and graceful figure caused Henry's heart to flutter as he thought, "You're even more beautiful than her!"

When Emily came back out with the dishes and plates, Henry quickly averted his gaze, not daring to meet her eyes. As Emily wiped the table with a cloth, she said, "But let me remind you, in Harbor Springs, there are plenty of girls who look like her, or even better. She's just a girl mixed up with a gang, not worth it! Once we settle down in a few days, I'll help your brother find you a job, and you'll see that there are plenty of beautiful girls here."

Henry was already smitten, but he said, "Why should I care about her? Besides, I'm going back to the village after school tomorrow!"

Emily thought for a moment and said, "That's fine too. After all, you just got out of prison, so it's good to go back and see. I'll have your brother take you back to visit in a week."

Henry firmly refused, "I don't want him to take me!"

Emily glanced at him and said, "Then I'll take you. I can drive, and I have a car too."

What? She'll drive me? A few hundred kilometers, two days round trip, alone with her... Henry couldn't dare to think further, but at the same time, he was conflicted and eagerly anticipating such an opportunity.

Henry had a certain inexplicable feeling towards older women, not because of a motherly complex, but because of Lisa, the first woman who captured his heart, who was about the same age as Emily.

The mature body of Lisa remained vivid in Henry's memory. In fact, back then, Lisa was still a young girl, with a very tender body, somewhat similar to Isabelle's current figure.

However, Henry was young at that time, so he found it particularly full and captivating, just like Emily now.

Seeing that he remained silent, Emily hummed a tune as she carried the dishes and plates into the kitchen. Unconsciously, it was the first time in her life that she couldn't help but hum a tune.

In her impression, women who hummed tunes were not serious. She came from a scholarly family and had been strict with herself since childhood, a well-behaved and well-mannered woman.

Henry, sitting in the living room, was taken aback. He didn't expect that Emily's humming voice would be so pleasant, it touched his heart. He kept looking at the kitchen door, where Emily had just disappeared, and a scene of Lisa almost dancing naked in front of him came to his mind...
