Chapter 201: You're a Hypocrite

Isabelle's words left Emily stunned. She never imagined that Isabelle, whom she had always considered a rebel girl, was still a virgin after years of dating Bryan. Emily herself couldn't do that, especially with a man she liked. She was still a virgin only because Andrew was impotent. Otherwise, they would have had children by now, maybe even planning for a second one with the relaxed policy.

Seeing Isabelle's serious expression, Emily believed she wasn't lying. In this matter, Isabelle wouldn't lie. Emily's heart was in turmoil. She always thought few modern girls remained chaste. She remembered a joke about people listening to a pastor in a church, including many school girls, some high schoolers. Someone asked if there were still virgins in society. Only a middle-aged woman holding her baby stood up and said her daughter was.

Emily's confidence in front of Henry came from being a married woman who was still a virgin. She never expected Isabelle to be a virgin, and Henry liked her. Isabelle pleaded with Emily to help her figure out what to do, asking what Emily would do in her situation. Isabelle never imagined Emily also liked Henry.

Emily's mind was a mess, but she had to placate Isabelle, saying she'd find out Henry's thoughts. Isabelle was thrilled, hugging Emily and calling her the best sister-in-law ever, unaware of Emily's turmoil.

Emily told Henry everything about Isabelle's visit, expecting him to be troubled. But Henry simply said, "Tell her it's impossible."

"Why?"

"Because when we were at odds, she clearly sided with Bryan. A good horse doesn't go back to graze on old pastures. I won't have anything to do with her."

Emily looked at Henry, "Are you saying this for my benefit? Will you go to her later?"

Emily's words made it clear she knew Henry's feelings for her. Otherwise, he wouldn't deceive her. Henry said, "If you think that, I'll call her in front of you." He took out his phone, but Emily snatched it away. "What do you mean, acting all high and mighty? No one can cross you, or you'll hold a grudge forever. I crossed you too. Do you hold a grudge against me?"

Emily threw Henry's phone onto the sofa and got up to leave.

"What are you doing?" Henry grabbed her hand, "You're being unreasonable. What does this have to do with you? Why are you so angry? Do you want me to date Isabelle?"

Emily glared at him, "Fine, it's none of my business. Can I leave now?"

Henry looked at her, frustrated, and let go of her hand. Emily didn't expect him to let go so easily and was at a loss. But having said she would leave, staying would be awkward. She started towards the door.

"Wait!" Henry said, "You can't leave after dinner without washing the dishes."

Emily looked at him, thinking: What a lame excuse to make me stay. She hesitated but then turned back to wash the dishes.

Henry watched her, thinking about what to do. When Emily finished washing the dishes, taking her time, Henry still hadn't said anything. She came out of the kitchen, looking angry, and asked, "I've washed the dishes, cleaned the pot, and tidied the kitchen. Can I leave now?"

Henry didn't know how to placate her and asked, "I don't understand. Dating is my business. Rejecting someone is my freedom. Why are you angry? Do you want me to date Isabelle?"

Emily knew Henry was trying to find a way to keep her from leaving. She didn't want to leave angry. Henry clearly didn't know how to comfort her, so she used his question to find a way to stay.

Emily said, "You're right. Who you date is your business. I just don't understand. You liked Isabelle so much, knew everything about her. Even if she rejected you, she's still a virgin. Why can't you give her a chance? I don't think you ever disliked her. When I told you she was a rebel girl, you still liked her. You were tough on her the first time you met, but I could see you liked her. If you like her, why worry about me? I'm not your girlfriend. Are you afraid I'll be jealous? I thought you were principled, loving and hating clearly. Knowing Andrew's true background, I thought you were loyal. No matter who his father was, his mother was your foster mother. You helped him out of gratitude, even when you suspected Jason had bad intentions and Andrew might help him. You still helped him achieve his goal, even if he didn't appreciate it. But with Isabelle, I see you're a hypocrite. Andrew can't affect your life, so you can be lenient. But Isabelle could be your wife. You have the traits of a hypocrite, treating those close to you poorly."

"Enough!" Henry shouted, furious. No one had ever dared to scold him like this. Emily's nagging made him snap. "Get out! You want to leave? Go!"
