Chapter 49: Something Big Happened
Charles immediately returned the money Emily had sent, then took a screenshot of the remittance and sent it to Henry via text, followed by a phone call.
"Kid, the money has been sent back. I hope my family is safe," Charles said.
Henry replied, "That's necessary. And let me warn you, just as you said, any grievances between us should be settled face to face, without involving our families. Otherwise, I won't call you next time. I'll do exactly as I said tonight, and you'll be left to collect the bodies of your family one by one!"
Charles was furious, "Fine, let's put our families aside for now and talk about our own matters. Kid, it seems you've chosen to mess around in Harbor Springs. You've just picked the wrong target to mess with. Your boss, Justin, should have told you that even though Harbor Springs is ruled by three gang bosses, I'm just one of the four, but with a stomp of my foot, the whole place will tremble."
Henry remained calm and said, "You've got it all wrong. I've never been a part of the streets, and I have no intention of getting involved. It's you who forced me into this. As for Justin, he has nothing to do with me. I believed the lies of his brother, Brandon, in the joint. If I still relied on them, do you think I would be making this call to you?"
Charles sneered, "Then can you tell me who's backing you now?"
"Henry."
"Jia..." Charles paused for a moment before realizing, "I see. You're planning to take down the entire Harbor Springs all by yourself?"
"You're mistaken. I'm not here to take anyone down. I'm just here to collect what's owed. I don't owe anyone, but whoever owes me, they will have to pay back every penny, and it will be doubled."
Charles laughed, "You're just like any other naive person when they first start out. I was the same. There were many like me back then, but only a few managed to make it in the end."
Henry said, "I don't have time for these useless talks. It's time to settle our accounts."
"How do you want to settle them?"
"I didn't know the price in Harbor Springs, but since you brought it up first, I'll follow suit. You have 24 hours to prepare $600,000 in my account. That way, we'll be even for my injuries. Otherwise, for every injury I've sustained, I'll make sure you receive tenfold in return!"
Charles shook his head and chuckled, "So, as long as I give you $600,000, everything between us will be settled?"
Henry replied, "Our matters will be settled, but the accounts between your brothers and me will be settled separately. There were a total of 20 people involved in the bar fight, and each one must pay me $100,000. I've already taken care of 8 of them, so that's $800,000 deducted. You just need to pay me $1.2 million. Otherwise, you'll get what's coming to you."
Charles was taken aback. He had just been beaten up, and Henry had injured 8 of his brothers. Why didn't anyone call him? But from Henry's tone, it was definitely not a bluff. And he had given a 24-hour deadline, which meant that if it was a lie, it would be exposed immediately. Charles calmly asked, "Anything else?"
Henry said, "Last night, a total of 60 of your brothers were at the scene. I remember each of their faces. From now on, every time I encounter them in Harbor Springs, I'll give them a beating, and I won't stop until they leave Harbor Springs."
"Haha, that's quite a bold statement," Charles laughed. "Are you planning to wipe them all out? Let me tell you, no one in Harbor Springs dares to speak to me in that tone, because those who do either end up dead or never dare to show their faces in Harbor Springs again!"
Henry said, "What you did to others in the past is exactly what I'm going to do to you now."
Charles said coldly, "Henry, if I don't erase you, I won't be able to stay in Harbor Springs for the rest of my life!"
"From the moment you provoked me, you were destined to disappear from Harbor Springs, but that will only happen once our accounts are settled. Otherwise, you can prepare to be erased!"
Charles angrily retorted, "Henry, I've already repaid the money I owed to your brother and sister-in-law. If you have the guts, don't you dare touch my family."
"I've told you before, tit for tat. As long as you and your people don't provoke my brother and sister-in-law again, your family has nothing to do with me."
"Fine, kid, let's settle this. You choose the time and place."
Henry retorted, "So, you've decided not to settle the remaining accounts with me?"
Charles sneered, "We'll settle the accounts face to face."
"We will definitely settle them face to face, but I'll do it my way."
"No matter what method you use, I, Charles, will be waiting. But let me remind you, be careful when you step out. Even if you dig three feet under the ground in Harbor Springs, I can still find you!"
At that moment, an ambulance that had just whizzed by roared back and drove past Henry into the hospital.
Henry said, "Did you hear the sound of 120? Hurry to your wife's hospital. If you're late, you might not see your brothers again!"
With that, he hung up the phone.
Charles was taken aback and quickly dialed Henry's number. He didn't know who was in trouble.
"Charles..."
Before Henry could finish, Charles interrupted, "Are you okay?"
Henry sighed, "Charles, Henry has crippled both my legs."
Upon hearing this, Charles realized that something had indeed happened. He immediately asked, "Are you in the ambulance now?"
"Yes."
"Alright, I'll call Zack and we'll go to the hospital together."
"I've already called Zack. He's the one who helped me call 911."
"Is it the same hospital?"
"Yes."
"I'll be there right away!"
Charles returned to the bedroom. Natalie was already sitting up and asked, "What's going on?"
"Henry has been injured and it seems serious. He's been taken to your hospital. Come with me to take a look and find a good doctor."
"What about our daughter?"
Charles hesitated for a moment and said, "I'll take her with us!"
