Chapter 85: Constant Testing

Wow!
From this angle, Ruby looked incredibly enticing!
Her snow-white legs were within reach, her abdomen had no fat, and her bra accentuated her curves. The view was like admiring a goddess statue, making it hard for Henry to control the distance.
From her vantage point, Ruby could see the changes in his body.
Henry quickly sat up, crossing his hands over his lap to hide his body's reaction, and asked, "Not drunk?"
If this amount of alcohol was considered drinking, how could Ruby manage her work?
Actually, she had been testing Henry all along.
A man typically has two desires: money and women.
If he's interested in money, he's usually interested in women too.
Similarly, if he's interested in women, he's generally interested in money.
The two desires complement each other.
Ruby didn't believe Henry wasn't interested in money. She knew he just had more self-control than most.
Or maybe he was pretending in front of her to achieve a certain goal.
She had staked her son's future entirely on Henry, so she needed to understand him fully, especially his character.
If she were unattractive, it would be different, but Henry's body showed a clear reaction.
Just as a desire for money is instinctual, a man's desire for a woman is also instinctual.
Henry had this instinct but could control it with his willpower, which was admirable.
Because of this, Ruby decided to entrust her son's future and even her own fate to Henry.
A man unmoved by money and women is unlikely to betray his friends or partners.
Ruby smiled, "I'm fine. You can go."
Henry sat there for a moment, looking up at her, and asked, "Were you testing me just now?"
"Nothing," Ruby said. "It's almost 2 AM. You should go home.
Besides, no man other than my husband has ever spent the night in my bedroom.
Register a company as quickly as possible. I'll inform you of good projects, and you can tell me about any good ones you find. I'll ensure you get them."
Henry nodded, stood up, and prepared to leave. Ruby asked, "Is there nothing you want me to help with?"
Henry shook his head.
After seeing Henry off, Ruby poured herself a third of a glass of wine, propped her snow-white legs on the round table, and sipped while reflecting on Henry's visit.
As someone who prided herself on reading people, Ruby was confident she could understand Henry's thoughts and mentality.
But Henry's behavior constantly surprised her.
Ignoring other matters, knowing Ruby needed his help and could assist Andrew and Emily, he didn't ask for any favors.
Whether it was a test or a negotiation, most people would ask Ruby to help Andrew or Emily to see how powerful Ruby was.
But Henry left without saying a word.
Ruby had met many people who constantly borrowed money or asked for help from wealthy or influential friends and relatives.
Even if it wasn't their own issue, they would ask for help to show off, even if it was several degrees of separation.
Such people only exploit you and don't appreciate the significant benefits you bring them.
These people also love to boast and are the first to kick you when you're down.
Ruby understood that Henry's silence usually meant one of two things: he didn't want to trouble others, or he was waiting to see what she would do.
If Ruby proactively helped Henry solve his problems, he would likely reciprocate.
If Ruby wanted something done and Henry could do it, she wouldn't need to worry.
Ruby found Henry not only intelligent but also emotionally astute.
Ruby liked dealing with people who were equally matched in intelligence and skill.
She avoided those lacking in both, like Erick.
Of course, Ruby continued to observe Henry's actions.
Erick said the three hard drives contained financial records that could ruin him.
Although Ruby had distanced herself, it would still have some impact.
Then there was Jason.
Ruby didn't know why Henry was after Jason, but his tone suggested he wanted Jason gone.
Henry knew Jason and Ruby were classmates and that Jason handled many of Erick's issues.
If Henry went too far, Jason might expose some of Ruby's secrets to save himself.
Ruby wanted to see how Henry would handle these two. It would reveal his intelligence, emotional intelligence, and how he viewed her.
If Henry recklessly destroyed Erick and Jason without considering her, it would show his immaturity.
Or it would indicate significant limitations in his intelligence and emotional intelligence.
If that were the case, Ruby would reassess and retain some necessary safeguards.
But Ruby hoped Henry would meet her expectations, and she would entrust everything to him.
If so, Henry would gain a powerful backer.
After finishing her wine, Ruby admired her legs, hoping one day they could ensnare Henry.
