Chapter 60: A Hint
Emily thought Avery was hinting at something.
Avery laughed and shook her head, "Are you really guilty? Would I joke about this?
Didn't you see the girl on the bed?
As his sister-in-law, you should care for him like a mother, and help him and that girl get together.
Don't be fooled by her young age; she's smart and cunning.
If their relationship deepens, I think she can handle Henry.
Do you think I'd joke about you and your brother-in-law?"
Emily felt embarrassed and explained, "Oh, you don't know. That girl is dating the son of The Davis Family Group's president."
Avery looked at Emily incredulously, then laughed dismissively.
To her, if Isabelle was really dating Cole's son, why would she be with Henry?
They lived in different worlds!
Emily saw her expression and thought Henry might have been lying about Isabelle's relationship.
"Okay, Avery, I'll remember your words."
Avery handed Emily a red envelope, "I didn't buy anything, take this."
Emily refused, "Your visit is a great honor, this money..."
Avery said, "You and Andrew don't have that much face. Henry saved me, this is a small token.
If I gave it to Henry, he wouldn't accept it. You take it for him, and bring him to my house when he's out."
Emily had to take it, "He'll start working after he's out. You don't need to be polite, just tell him if you need anything."
Avery nodded, and they walked back to the room.
Jason and Andrew were also returning, and they exchanged pleasantries before saying goodbye to Henry.
Before leaving, Jason glanced at Isabelle.
Unlike when they arrived and she was on her phone, Isabelle's gaze softened as she watched them leave.
She thought, if she could connect with Avery and have her say good things to Ella at the district station, even help Ella get promoted.
If Ella knew she helped her so much, wouldn't she say good things to Bryan?
Isabelle knew Bryan feared his sister more than his parents.
Jason thought his charm had changed Isabelle's attitude.
Middle-aged men are often narcissistic, and Jason was no exception.
After leaving the hospital, Jason and Avery parted ways with Andrew and Emily.
In the car, Avery didn't look at Jason and said, "Don't get too proud, thinking about Henry's girlfriend. Be careful.
Henry isn't an easy person. A country kid who spent years in prison, he can turn on you quickly. Even Andrew and Emily won't be able to stop him."
No one knew Jason better than Avery.
Jason looked puzzled, "What do you take me for? Henry is just a country boy. I wouldn't be interested in his girlfriend.
Our female students are better than that girl.
Besides, I can't even handle you, how could I be interested in a little girl?"
Avery said coldly, "Stop pretending. You've harmed enough female students.
You can't handle me because you give your energy to those students and bar girls!
I didn't say anything because I'm not blind or afraid of losing face."
Jason said urgently, "Can you stop joking? This isn't a joke. We're in the car, but if you say something outside, it could ruin me, our family, and Frank's future."
Avery snorted, "If not for Frank, I'd have left you long ago."
Jason defended, "What do you mean? Andrew's family had a big issue, and as a couple, we have responsibilities.
I looked at Henry's girlfriend because it's hard for him to find one. I thought of finding her a job to make up for yesterday."
Avery laughed coldly, "The best way to make up is to help Henry! Also, I heard Andrew's promotion was blocked by you.
What, are you after Emily?"
Jason glared righteously, "What do you take me for? Emily is your friend, I wouldn't be interested in her.
Avery snorted, "Haven't you heard of guarding against friends?"
Jason shook his head, "I don't care to talk! If I wanted Emily, I should help Andrew!
Oh, I block Andrew's promotion but want his wife, am I crazy?"
Avery said, "Who knows? Maybe you're playing hard to get, suppressing Andrew for years, then helping him, making them grateful."
Jason had this thought, but didn't expect Avery to see through it.
He sighed, "Wife, you're jealous and don't know my struggles.
Being vice principal, many are jealous.
Everyone knows you're friends with Emily, and Andrew treats me well. They say I'll help Andrew, can I let them have this handle?
So I opposed Andrew's promotion for two years, so no one can say anything!"
