Chapter 107: Underground passages

Robin

And hell broke out. We who were prisoners are now free, and those who imprisoned us are under attack. My friend summons an enormous strength from within and attacks the wolf that threatened me, the same one that wanted to torment my mate.

With a piece of metal, she wounded it with great effort. Suddenly I was at her side, beating him, hitting him on the head with whatever I could find nearby: a stick, and hit him until I saw blood.

I don't know how we got to killing a man, but I'm sure it was either them or us.

"My mate! My Luna!" Liam hugs us both and looks down at what we've done. Thanks to Maddie's surprise attack, my mate was able to destabilize his oppressors. Now they're dead too. We were truly free.

"Liam," I whisper I can tell he's hurt, but at the same time he's energized, as if everything that's happening is giving him more strength. I touch his body; I need him close.

"That was amazing, girl! We're going to get out of this, you'll see!" Liam exclaims excitedly, but what are we going to do now? How are we really going to get out of here?

"More will come, don't doubt it for a second. You need to move, keep moving, get out of here, alert the pack and tell them everything you've seen," he says, and I don't like any of it.

"I'm not leaving you here!" I reply quickly. I've already said goodbye to one mate; I don't think I can do it with another.

"You have to, my love," he pleads, and I know that what he's asking is incredibly difficult.

"No... I can't do it," I answer, refusing, and he takes my face and looks at me with adoration. Damn it! I've seen that look, full of love, since they found me. From the very first moment, these blond, handsome twins loved me, I'm sure of it, and I... I wanted them, desired them, adored them. They were my dream men, both of them.

"Robin, you joined us in the ceremony, but you also joined the pack. Our Luna is in danger, you're in danger, dear, we all are. I'm not exaggerating when I say that right now, the survival and happiness of everyone depends on the two of you. You're strong, my love, and so is our Luna. You have to get out of here” he insists, and even though I thought they couldn't say no to me and would let me do anything I want, I realize how hard it is to refuse them.

"All right," I reply, my heart already breaking.

"This is an ancient place, I´m pretty sure there are hidden passages; I don't know exactly where, but they must be nearby.
You must go quietly."

"Liam, please, we can't go alone..." Maddie says desperately.

"I'll take care of the rest. You just have to make it out alive," he says. I kiss him passionately, and this goodbye is killing me. Suddenly we heard more noises coming from one of the doors. He urged us to leave.

"Go now, without looking back," he shouts, as if that were possible.

"I love you, I love you, Liam," I whisper to him.

"And we love you, little goddess," I hear him say as my friend grabs my hand. We walk to the other door, she's holding the metal bar and I hear the screams from where we left him. I know my mate is fighting with everything he's got.

"God or goddess or whatever, help him! Protect him!" I think, terrified as my heart races with fear again.

The place, if it was ever holy, is now in ruins, surrounded by shadows. I see overgrown vegetation everywhere, torches along the corridors; it smells of damp. We don't see anyone, but the atmosphere is tense. Are there other prisoners here? I wonder as I suddenly step on a loose tile and an arrow falls. My friend and I barely dodge it - it seems like luck.

"Traps? Just what we needed!" she sighs.

"We must be careful" I add as we continue. We hear more screams and I push her against the wall, and to our amazement, the door spins, and we fall to the other side.

"Damn, I think we found the secret passageways. The big question now is where do they lead?" she asks as we move forward almost blindly.

"What I know for sure is that when they brought me here, we went down many floors. The exit is upstairs," I point, and so we go.

We peer through what appear to be windows into hidden passageways, we even have to crouch down and let some warriors pass by. They don't notice us; they're in a hurry, and I'm convinced that Liam will create enough chaos downstairs to keep them from following us.

At one point, we reach a crossroads and don't know where to go, when my friend hears a growl and gets excited.

"It's the wolf! It's my little wolf!" she says, grabbing my arm to follow the sound.

"Maddie, this is crazy. We have to get out of here!" I insist, but she seems determined.

"I can't leave him. He's here because of me," she stresses. We peek into a hallway, and sure enough, there's a little wolf, the one she so diligently cared for, locked in a cage. He's alone, but he's's making a big fuss.

"I need to help him," my friend says, and together we push one of the walls until it finally gives way, and we make our way to the other side.

"Little wolf!" she exclaims happily. She kneels down in front of the cage, and the animal undoubtedly recognizes her, wagging wildly.

"We have to get him out of here," I sigh, convinced that my friend won't leave without him. The wolf paces back and forth in the cage as if trying to help us. Even though I'm a little scared, he seems to be on our side.

"Let's do this," she says, banging on the lock with the stick. I push the bars with my hands while the wolf gets more and more anxious. It doesn't take us long to figure out why.

"What the hell are you filthy humans doing here?! How did you escape from your cell?" A ragged old man appears, looking disheveled.

"Let go of the wolf!" Maddie yells, and I see him completely enraged. She faces him with the rod in her hand as if it were a weapon.

"Little bitch!" the man yells, lunging at her. My friend fights back with everything she's got. She hits him in the head, and he staggers back, only to come back even angrier.

"What the fuck?!" he shouts, shoving her. She hits the wall and falls to the floor, while I keep pounding on the lock, thinking we have to get out of here and help my friend. Finally, the lock gives way and the wolf bursts out and attacks the man. I know from the screams that he's finished him in seconds.

"Oh my God!" I exclaim, rushing to check on Maddie. The wolf is licking her face, too.

"I'm fine, I'm fine. Let's get out of here," she insists, still a little dizzy, and now the wolf is leading the way down the hallway we just came from, while I support Maddie.

"It looks like he's leading us - this must be the way out!" I exclaim.
