Chapter 9: The change

Dominic

I was happy to touch our mate again and purred as I carried Maddie.

I couldn't forget when we had taken off her dress, even though it hadn't been the best time or decision. My hands trembled just thinking about touching her skin.

Her underwear, the way her breasts were pressed into her bra, the curve of her ass... I got aroused just thinking about it.

We had started off on the wrong foot, and now we didn't know how to fix it. And we wanted to fix it.

Kurt was desperate, Logan had a lost look in his eyes. We were suffering, even if we couldn't express it very well. We just couldn't bear to see her miserable.

"We have to do something. We have to make her give us a chance, little by little," Kurt said.

However... Madeleine had changed.

"I hope you're comfortable," I said hesitantly.

We had changed the furniture, arranged it for her, put up mirrors, a vanity.

The bathroom had cosmetics, hair accessories, makeup, and the closet was full of new clothes.

"We wanted you to feel more comfortable," I said, nervous.

She gave a quick look around and then slowly approached me. Her proximity drove me crazy; she looked to me as if she wanted to tempt me, to provoke me, and she did it damn well.

"She wants to be close to us," Damiano said, but I wasn't so sure.

Her scent made my heart race, and I felt a wave of pleasure when she spoke.

"Thank you."

"The doctor also sent a diet, but if there's anything you prefer... just say so," I told her. It was important that she ate, that she got strong and healthy.

She nodded and ignored me again. I felt like I would do anything to get her close to me again.

The three of us slept in different rooms, but we shared an office; we usually worked very well together. Our father used to say that we were like the same fingers on the same hand and had to work as one.

Not many couples had twins, and even fewer had triplets. For the Alpha and Beta family to have us, meant that we were indeed of strong blood.

"Mate seems happy with the changes we have made. Doctor Karim was right."

"She's not our mate, don't call her that," Logan growled.

"She is brother!...whether we like it or not" Kurt said as Logan roared.

"I've already told you that she will trick us and ruin us."

"Do you not see that she has already ruined us? She has weakened us with her hunger strike, made us suffer. My wolf spends all day crying and I know yours does too, I hear it from here," Kurt said and Logan had nothing to say because it was true.

"I'm not going to reject her," I affirmed.

"Well, I'm not going to accept her," Logan replied.

"You know we have to make the decision together," Kurt said, annoyed.

"She is an arrogant, ugly, simple, vulgar, weak human being who will be our end and the death of us all!" Logan shouted, and in seconds Kurt was facing him, grabbing him by the neck.

Damn, I had never seen him like that before.

"Take it back, don't talk about mate like that!" he said in a deep voice, and I knew that Ajax, his wolf, was speaking.

"How dare you confront me? Because a human? Damn it!"

"You know I would follow you anywhere, but she is our mate, what we have been waiting for years, and I will not let your pride and hatred ruin our chance to be better," Kurt said, and I was really surprised.

"Time will prove me right... foolish brat," Logan kept insisting.

"We don't have time. The bond will drive us crazy, it will beg us to mark her. We have to win her over the right way, because she won't feel this madness, she can refuse" I said firmly, completely convinced that what I was saying was true, even though Logan tried to hide it.

"Do whatever you want!" he yelled and left the office, and when I was about to follow him, Kurt stopped me.

"He'll be back, believe me. He won't be able to stay away from her for long."

At least things were improving with Maddie. She was eating, and she was at least answering the simplest questions. Perhaps she's resigned.

When she asked to see her friend Robin, I couldn't say no; and as we watched them talking and laughing, I felt delighted.

"They seem to get along really well," Kurt said.

"Robin is always talking about Maddie. She says she's the best and the smartest, and that they've known each other since they were kids," Lionel said, watching his mate with a lovelorn expression on his face.

Now that I think about it, it's no coincidence that Robin, our mate's best friend, is our Beta's mate.

"Does your mate talk to you a lot?" I asked, surprised.

"Oh yeah! Robin loves to talk and we love to listen. She tells us what she likes and asks about things in the pack and seems very interested in everything that goes on around her," they said.

I couldn't help but feel a little jealous.

"The truth is, you guys seem pretty happy," I said bitterly. I appreciated the Golden Boys, but it wasn't fair that they got along with their mate and we didn't.

"We are! We couldn't have asked for a more charming and beautiful mate," Lionel said enraptured.

"And funny and smart," Liam added.

"Plus, she's falling in love with us, too. I think soon... maybe she could move in with us," the blond twins said.

"Damn it!" Kurt shouted through the mindlink.

"Don't even say, brother. We had made a small step with our mate, but we were nowhere near that point."

"By the way, our mate said she loves to dance. She was dancing when the Night Wolves interrupted. It was Luna Madeleine's birthday," Liam said, and they were the first to call her that. Not even we called her that, and it made a lump in my throat.

"Her birthday?" Kurt asked desperately. We were idiots.

"We were thinking of taking her to Luna Vera's birthday party," Lionel said.

"Maybe we can go with Maddie..." I said, not sure if that was a good idea.

"Do you think so? It would be exposing her to the pack...we haven't said anything yet," Kurt said, worried.

"There would be a lot of people. Besides... there are already rumors," I said.

"I think it's an excellent idea! Robin will be very happy!" the twins said excitedly. It seemed all they cared about was pleasing their mate.

"Maybe this would make her happy, Right?" Kurt said.

"No, no, and no," Logan kept repeating when we talk to him.

"Logan, we know that we will not reject her. Do you want the rest of the pack to see our mate crying and kicking, or do you want to see her working with us?" I said firmly.

"I think it's an excellent idea," Vera, our aunt and the temporary Luna of the pack, appeared.

"You catch more flies with honey than anything else. There will be music, alcohol... the human will be more cooperative," she said with a smile, and Logan had no choice but to agree.

Madeleine seemed quite happy when we talked about the party, but nothing prepared us for what we found when we picked her up.

She was wearing a really short and flashy dress that made me growl just by looking at her.
