Chapter 82: Unwanted solutions

"I'm going to smash his face in, and then I'm going to break every bone in his body," Kurt whispers in my head.

"That is, if you get there before I do," I growl.

Maddie grabs my arm, and it's the only thing stopping me from telling my stupid brother some truths about how he's not an Alpha and undoubtedly incapable of fathering a child. I would question his virility and manhood, but honestly, what deserves to be questioned is his head.

"Our mate was kidnapped, it's true, but she survived and even recovered quickly. There is no evidence that human females can't reproduce as well or even better than she-wolves," I yell at the top of my lungs, and again I hear sighs and looks of surprise.

These are topics that have never been discussed among the wolves; in fact, the idea of having human mates was off the table until recently - they were all women now. But I knew I was on dangerous ground. The issue of mates was serious, not to mention the low birth rate in the wolf community.

"And as for whether she can handle alphas... I can assure you that she can handle two quite well," Kurt adds, and more sounds of surprise can be heard.

My poor mate hides behind me, afraid that our intimacy will be discussed in front of everyone, but this was something very common in the packs, and besides, it was a really important point. And it wasn't a lie - Maddie was more than capable of handling us in bed.

"The fact that you didn't want to try is another matter," Kurt smiles and hear sighs. Of course, Logan growls like a savage; I know he's green with envy and Irina notices and pulls him by the arm.

"Enough, enough!" the man from the Council shouts. "We need to hear the whole case in depth before we make a decision!" the man says as Irina suddenly interrupts him.

"People of the pack, our great Alpha has asked for my help in this matter, and of course I have agreed. First, because this pack means everything to me, and second, because what he says is true: the pack will be in danger with a human and weak Luna. And as if that wasn't enough, our enemies have already found out. There have been numerous attacks on our alphas,' she says with great eloquence, I have to admit, and I hear howls and even applause. Damn it!

"Furthermore, by accepting a human Luna, our alphas are acknowledging that humans are our equals and would fall under our protection. Simply put, it's not our responsibility," she continues, and to my horror, I see many gestures of agreement. She was the warrior, intelligent and beautiful, and had always been incredibly admired.

"Damn woman!" whispers Kurt.

"Thank you, Irina. I believe that no one can criticize the devotion you've always had for our pack. And although I don't think anyone would object to you being our Luna, it's an important decision that would affect everyone. A chosen mate isn't something strange, but it is when there is a destined mate, I mean... if is true" our uncle says, but he looks strange. What the hell is happening to him today?

"There is! There is!" Kurt shouts and I speak up.

"People of the Council, people of Moonvalley, my brother and I have come here, to this important ceremony, to present our true and destined mate, whom we will accept until the end of our days... Madeleine," I raise my voice and I take her hand.

It was the step we should have taken from the beginning; it was why we had come, but Logan had gotten there first. I walk with her to the stage with Kurt, where Logan is standing with Irina.

Our mate looks small and embarrassed, though she has no reason to be; to her, what is happening here is heresy - she is our true mate.

"We heard the call of the Goddess and accepted it with open arms. The happiness we have found with Madeleine is incomparable, and to lead the pack in choosing another Luna is simply an aberration. The moon goddess does not make mistakes, and at this moment I must say that she's never been more right: Madeleine is everything we want and more" I say proudly, taking her hand and kissing it while Kurt takes her other hand. The pack members look at us, but we are two against one and besides, the decisions of the moon goddess are usually irrevocable. But of course Logan had to reply.

"If that were true, you would have accepted her from the beginning, but there are many witnesses in the pack who prove that she was rejected by all of us from the very start, even by our enemies. She's an imposter!" Logan shouts, pointing at her, but even he can't stop looking at her. It's obvious he's suffering.

"Damn it, I swear I'll kill you!" Kurt shouts, and he almost hits him, but stops and regains control.

"Is that true, Alphas?" the old man from the council asks, looking at us like we are spoiled brats.

"It was," our uncle replies, and the pack looks shocked. They should be horrified that these events were real, but unfortunately they were.

"'Gentlemen of the Council, I can only say that this was due to shock. It shouldn't surprise anyone that it was a sudden shock to find out that we had a human mate, especially as Alphas. And yes, as Logan says, we tried to stay away from her. We thought it was odd, but we couldn't stay away; she and the bond felt stronger and stronger” I explain.

“ We dreamed of her! We wanted her, and we grew stronger by her side! And this is just proof that she is truly our mate. The bond cannot be faked!" Kurt shouted. Now there were murmurs in the pack, some for and some against, and I didn't know how this was going to end.

"Silence, silence!" the council ordered. "We must deliberate on how to solve this problem, since three Alphas cannot have two Lunas. A decision must be made!" the old man shouts.

"Irina is the Luna we all deserve. She will bring us peace, and besides, I am the elder Alpha, and I have chosen her. I do not care what my brothers want," Logan shouts desperately. Of course, all he cares about is having a mate all to himself and wielding all the power.

" You miserable bastard!" I shout over the din.

"There must be a solution! Something that can be done!" my uncle and the council members shout. Suddenly Irina speaks again with a terrible solution. I had to listen again, because I couldn't believe what she said.

"The Rite of the Wolf Guardian," she says as if it were nothing.

"Excuse me, miss?" our uncle asked.

“What the fuck?” Kurt yells

"The Rite of the Wolf Guardian is the only solution. If the brothers believe the human is capable of caring for and representing the pack, she must prove it. And what better way to do that than with the rite," Irina explains and a clamor arises.
