Chapter 23: Whatever you want

Logan

"We just promised our uncle that we wouldn't mess with the humans or the Night Wolves!" I said desperately.

"But what choice do we have, Alpha? Robin is desperate. She told us that this is the town where her family lives, Three Streams... they used to live in another town, but they left when we had evacuate the zone because of threats from the Night Wolves," Liam said, and I felt a knot in my throat.

"The same thing happened to our mate..." Dominic said.

"We can't and we won't; it's not our problem," I complained.

"Come on, Logan! You're not the kind of wolf who likes to follow rules, but now you're convinced it was the best option just so we wouldn't be around humans, and it doesn't seem like you want to help her either. What a coincidence!" Dominic said angrily.

Of course I cared about my uncle, although I wasn't a lapdog like my brothers. I had my own goals, my own agenda.

From a distance I saw the human crying in Kurt's arms. My brother seemed to be comforting her, and I had to admit that she looked bad; it wasn't an act, she was completely desperate.

She had a family, a life away from us, and the thought didn't sit well with me.

"Alpha, our mate spoke to us. She's an only child, she only has her parents... It pains me to say this, but they don't know anything about her and must be very worried. I can't imagine how my parents would feel if they didn't know about Lionel and me, if we were kidnapped by a pack. It's no doubt one of the reasons why she don't fully accept us," Liam said.

"That's a good point..." my brother said.

"It doesn't make sense, Dom. We're not going to break our uncle's rules!"

"Think about it, Logan! I hate that I did not think about it before. I was so blinded by the idea of her accepting us, and the doubt that we would really accept her, that I didn't think about any of this," he said, and I knew that remorse was eating him up.

I must say, I wasn't entirely comfortable, either.

"But how can we do that?" asked the twin, who seemed determined to convince me.

"We'd have to go secretly with a small group," my brother said, and I really couldn't believe how this human had him in the palm of her little hand.

"Beta... we're not going. Is that understood? And you, Dominic, we agreed that we would talk about accepting the human together or not..." I said firmly. After all, I was going to be the heir to the Alpha title and I had to be firm.

"Logan! This is a serious matter! It's the crucial moment to help our mate and gain her trust so that she will accept and forgive us," my brother said, grabbing the edge of my jacket while I slapped his hand.

"There is nothing to forgive. We did what we had to do. If she is our true mate, she will obey us and do what we say. She will wait, she will understand, and she will please us... and I'm sure this stubborn human is not the Luna we deserve," I said, and he pushed me.

When the other twin came, completely overwhelmed, I grabbed both Betas almost by the neck and said clearly:

"You are strictly forbidden to go to that town and help the humans..."

"But Alpha!"

"I know. I know you feel the urge to help your mate, I know you're completely under the power of that human, but I won't let you break the rules of this pack. Is that understood?" I said loudly for all to hear.

"Yes, Alpha," they said, looking at me with hatred. We'd always gotten along well; really, this human had turned our lives upside down.

I felt alone at night. My brothers wouldn't talk to me, and the Golden Boys seemed to have won the sympathy of the other warriors who knew about the humans.

I had to admit that I felt bad, because I understood the human's concern. We didn't have parents, but if we did... if I knew something had happened to my brothers, I would feel bad, I would be very worried.

I was lost in my thoughts when I suddenly felt someone approaching me and saw the human standing at my bedroom door.

It was late; I didn't even know how she knew it was my room. She seemed to look around at the decor and saw me sitting on the bed.

She took several steps towards me, it seemed as if she was trembling, and without a doubt she would rather be in hell than be here with me. My wolf howled sadly at the thought.

"You..."

"Please, I just want to talk ..." she begged. Something in her sad and pleading voice called to something in me.

"Listen to her, please..." my wolf also begged.

"You have one minute to talk. You've made me waste enough time already," I snapped, and she seemed to gather her courage.

Her eyes were swollen and her lip trembled. I felt a pang in the pit of my stomach, but I continued as if nothing had happened.

"I know you're the one who won't let them find out what happened in Three Streams..."

"Are you serious?" I asked, standing up.

She took a step back, but then moved forward toward me. I didn't know if she was stupid enough to think that the bond would make me succumb.

"It's my family... It's all I have."

"You don't really have anything because you'll never see them again," I said and she swallowed hard.

"Please... I need to know they're okay," she said, and something in her eyes made me lose focus.

"We won't go," I reiterated.

"I'm begging you... Logan..." the sound of my name in her lips brought pain and satisfaction at the same time. "I'm imploring you... I'll do anything," she said, looking at me with fear.

"Mate will do anything..." my wolf said quickly in my head.

"Anything?"

"Yes..." she said, trembling, but I didn't notice any remorse.

"Do you know what you're saying? You don't make deals with wolves and then think you don't have to keep your promises..."

"I swear, I'll do anything," she said, and I smiled maliciously.

I moved closer and tucked a lock of hair behind her ear. She looked frightened. I wanted to tell her not to feel that way, that I wouldn't hurt her... but she must be thinking the worst of me. And with good reason.

"Very well, human... It seems we have a deal."
