Chapter 160: News from the betas
Robin
I remember when I used to hate wolves, and honestly, I had every reason to. But we humans made so many mistakes too, and all those terrible feelings had done so much damage.
The meetings with the nearby towns of Three Streams had been very difficult. The twins had begged me to leave and return to the pack. But I knew that, as complicated as it was, I not only had to protect these people, but also try to break the humans' alliance with the Night Wolves.
"We can't bear to see you treated like this, mate, it's killing us inside," Liam said, and I tried to calm them down. I knew I was their priority, that they were capable of leaving the pack and everything for me, but I had to carry on.
"Are you all right, mate?" they asked worriedly when I felt dizzy.
"It's nothing..."
"You've been like this for days, ever since the attack on the town" Lionel says.
"We should have gone to the doctor," Liam suggests, but I'm determined to stay here as long as I can.
"What we've been discussing here is absolutely true. You know that what happened in Three Streams could happen here at any moment," Maddie's mother insists.
"But you're with the wolves, you couldn't even stop it!" says one of the townspeople.
"These wolves are different. They're violent and blinded by power," I explain.
"You have a relationship with two wolves," someone shouts, pointing at me, and I this happened in each town. My mates growl and suddenly everything is chaos, but I stand up, determined.
"Yes, they are my husbands, and yes... they are two wolves," I say as this group of people stare at me in shock. "I know it's not common, although it is for werewolves. Lionel and Liam are amazing men. They love me, protect me and cherish me like no one else in my life has ever done. They care for me while giving me space; they let me make my own decisions and would never do anything I didn't want to do. Not only that, but they're everything I've ever wanted," I say aloud, and they fall silent.
"And what about the other wolves?" asks a woman I'd seen outside with two little girls.
"The other wolves are nothing like my mates. They're vengeful, they only care about territory, and they've made a threat against our world. And believe me... they will carry it out. They don't care about anything else," I say, watching them swallow hard. "This isn't a game, these aren't empty threats. We have a chance to end the conflict between wolves and humans, but we need all your help. We need you to break the deal you've made with them, because they will betray you. And the women will pay the price. Some may become their true mates, yes. And the rest? They'll use them like objects!" I explain.
"We would never betray our people, we'd never do that. It was a small group, obsessed with revenge against the wolves. We want to stop them, but we don't know how," one man says at last.
"We need names, we need to find them, talk to them"
"I can talk to one, I can take you to the others," a man stands up.
"We can do it together," says another, and now we have a small team, they will help us, spreading the word. I sit down in one of the chairs, worn out. This has all been terribly exhausting. Then the woman with the two girls comes up to me.
"There is a group I belong to. I didn't know if I could trust you."
"We just want to help," Liam says, and she nods.
"There is a resistance, a group of men and women who are fighting this," she explains, and that seems like excellent news. As there were good wolves and bad wolves, there were good humans and bad humans. I hoped that we good ones were in the majority.
"Can you take us to them?"
"I can leave them a message. It's up to them whether they let you talk to them or not," the woman says, and it's better than nothing.
"There's a group that wants to talk!" Maddie's mother arrives with my father, but I feel weak and can barely get up from the chair.
"Mate, you've got to stay. We need to get you to the doctor," Lionel says desperately, while my father agrees.
"But..."
"You need to see a doctor. We'll talk to the people in this town and move on. I know some of them here, they'll listen to us, my sweet girl, trust me," my father says. I have no choice but to return to the pack in the hope that they can sort this out. The twins won't leave my side, and when I return to the pack, Maddie is waiting for me.
"The twins told me they needed someone to keep an eye on you, so I volunteered," she says happily. I tell her what happened in the human towns, and she sighs.
"My mum says Mark had a fight with Kevin. It would be best to track Kevin, find out what he's up to and see who's supporting him. I don't want to think my brother is involved in this," she says, holding my hand.
"Do we know about Logan and Kurt?" I ask and she shakes her head.
"They're on their way back; they seem worried and shocked. They didn't want to say anything yet, it seems they found out something... terrible disturbing" she explains. The doctor appears with the results of some tests, and my mates are immediately at my side.
"I have to confirm that Robin is pregnant"
"Are you sure, Doctor?" I ask.
"Absolutely. You're quite far along in the pregnancy, and we have to take precautions because you're human. We'll have to do some special tests and follow-ups," the doctor says. Maddie looks at me, overjoyed, and my mates are on the verge of tears.
"Pregnant... our mate is pregnant!"
"We're going to be dads!"
"I'm going to be an aunt!" Maddie shouts excitedly, hugging me. I was crying with joy.
"The sun will always rise for us, it always does," my mates say, kissing and hugging me as the doctor leaves us alone. Yes, there are bad men in the world, both wolves and humans... and I wasn't lying when I said I'd found the best.
