Chapter 8: Hunger strike
Maddie
I don't know what day it was or how much time had passed, but I woke up in what seemed to be the infirmary again.
I felt weak, my head was spinning, and I saw that I had an IV. No doubt they had treated me before I got worse.
"Welcome back to the land of the living, Madeleine. I must say, you gave us all quite a scare," said the doctor who attended to me when I arrived.
"Right… dying in this place sounds awful," I said, and she looked at me in horror.
"I would like you to get to know the pack and us before you make such a drastic decision,"
"Believe me, I know enough. I'm making a pretty informed decision," I explained, and she sat down to talk to me like a friend.
"I'm guessing your life here hasn't started off on the right foot."
"You have no idea,"
"I know your mates are the Three Dragons. They are complicated...but good wolves," she said. I looked at her in shock.
"If you really knew them, you wouldn't say that."
"Seriously, they are some of the most beloved wolves in the pack... I know they didn't behave well, but they were in a special situation... you have the smell of our enemies..." she replied, genuinely confused.
Are these people drugged or what the fuck?
"Sure... keep justifying the actions of these savages."
"Seriously... they're good guys, I've known them all their lives," she insisted.
"That's because you don't know who they really are. Do you know what they've done?" I told her and began to recount the atrocities they committed, especially when they attacked me. She looked horrified.
"Geez... I really need to talk to these boys..." she said, startled.
"It's not worth it, they're mindless monsters," I said, when suddenly there was a knock at the door.
"Looks like you have a visitor, Madeleine..." As the door opened, I saw Dominic in the distance, and from the look on his face, he had heard me.
"No, please, not them..." I said in horror, and he had a pained look on his face.
Then suddenly someone appeared in my vision, someone I thought I'd never see again.
"Not even me?"
"Robin?" I said, tears filling my eyes.
"I'll leave you girls alone..." the doctor closed the door and I hug her.
"Girl... I thought..."
"Me too, Maddie..." she said happily, "I was in shock too, with everything that had happened and not knowing about you! And then... I found out. You and the Three Dragons? Damn, Maddie..."
"Don't even mention it. But what happened to you?"
"Something similar... in my case, I got two blond twins who seem to be very good friends with your dragons."
"Believe me, those three idiots are not mine," I said.
"Mmm...I think they are..."
"God please, no! Tell me about the twins..." I said, interested.
"Well... the twins are weird, but... they seem quite happy with me and have tried to get to know me," she said, and I looked at her in surprise.
"What do you mean?"
"Okay... I've been locked in a room most of the time, and they've been interrogating me. They were angry because, according to them, I smelled like other wolves. But then they gave me a tour of the pack house..."
"So..."
"My conclusion over these days is… they seem crazy about me," she said casually. "I mean, I know I attract a lot of men, but these twins seem to be... in love, really in love. They smile when they see me and their eyes light up. It's very strange, it's like they're my shadows. When I get up, they are already at my door, they eat with me, they bring me what I need. Like puppies in love" she said. I was in shock.
"In love? what?"
"I thought maybe they just desired me. But no, I mean yes... but it's not just that. They are in love, they sigh when they see me, and when I come near them, they get excited like a dog with a stick," she said.
"Are you kidding?" she shrugged.
Now that I looked at her, she had an outfit that looked expensive. She looked... better than ever. What the hell?
"And all I'm getting is growls, and threats"
"I know. However...the way you're acting... we're not going to get out of here," she said, pointing to my IV.
"What do you mean?"
"Well, at first I was scared, but I saw that they approached me with peace offerings and gradually explained the situation to me. Then I saw that when I was okay, they relaxed. I don't know what's going on with these men, but it has something to do with us being their mates...".
Mates... the three assholes had called me mates.
"Are we like their kind of women or partners for procreation?"
"It's more than that. What I mean is that I started asking them for things, and when they saw me being more open, they started giving in. They started to ask me my favorite food and tried to bring it to me, they took me to the garden, they brought me clothes..."
"So they bought you..." I said, and she slapped my hand loudly and whispered angrily.
"Ouch! Careful I'm ill!"
"Think, Maddie! We are being kidnapped by wolves, we have to get out of here, find Mark and Kevin, alert the others!"
"I know! Damn it!" I whispered.
"Then we need to work together... I'm sure I have the Golden Boys in my hands."
"Are you fraternizing with the enemy? Have they done anything to you?" I asked in horror, and she opened her eyes wide.
"No! No!" she yelled, then lowered her voice.
"What I mean is that we have to be strong and have all the advantages to get out of here. Believe me, the twins are so obsessed that I think if I plan well, they'll take me to see the whole pack. Then we can have a plan. We could take a car, I already saw where there is an exit. And escape," she says, and I looked at her in awe.
"Damn...you are brilliant... did I tell you that?"
She seemed very pleased and proceeded to attack a pudding they had left for me. In fact, I had flowers, cookies, and lots of food on a table.
They struggled to keep me alive. Something inside me told me that they needed me.
"I know. People usually judge me by my beauty. But I also have a brain, and we need a plan, I need your brain, Maddie. You are the clever one" she said, licking her fingers.
"It's been a very enlightening conversation," I told her.
Suddenly we heard a knock on the door, and I jumped, afraid they had heard us, even though we were speaking in whispers.
"Behave. I'll play the suffering girl who misses her friend, which is true," Robin whispered.
"Madeleine?" We heard a voice on the other side of the door; it must be one of the triplets.
"But they hate me, how can I do this?"
"Who do you think brought me here? They will comply...believe me. It's time for you to start acting, like right now girl!" she said, winking at me, and Dominic suddenly appeared, looking at us curiously.
"Maddie... did I tell you the triplets were looking for me to see you? I missed you so much!" Robin said aloud, smiling calmly.
Damn, she's good... really good.
"Is there anything you need... Madeleine...? Maddie?" Dominic asked.
If Robin is right, I would give it my best shot.
