Chapter 158: The Human Bar
Kurt
Rowan has kept his word and given them a lead on where Gerard was. Unfortunately, if we want the Alphas on our side, we need proof. When Dominic spoke to other packs, some believed him, others treated him like a madman. The Council had really done a good job of making itself a credible institution.
"I still can't believe that Rowan is Aunt Vera's mate too. To be honest, she was pretty unhappy," Logan says as we walk together. It was Dominic's idea, and I knew he wanted to be alone with our mate on the one hand, and Logan and I... we need to talk.
It wasn't a bad idea, especially as I knew he was in good terms with Maddie. And as we had already established, we had to mark her. My wolf went crazy with the idea.
"I can't even imagine living like that," I add, and we fall silent again. I take the opportunity to bring up the subject. "I hear you're making great progress with Maddie,"
"That's right, she's exceptional. I don't know how the Moon Goddess could have given such a kind and wise mate to wolves as stubborn as us."
"It really is a mystery," I reply.
"I know we're in a hurry and I would never put pressure on her, but she seems ready. I can't even ... I mean... this is a dream come true" he says, looking overwhelmed. Maybe he always has been, the worried brother with too much responsibility. I notice it now.
"All I can think about is having her, knowing we're a family, all us together. If we can have pups will be awesome, of course. But it's the simple idea of her being with us every day. Whatever comes in the future doesn't matter because she's part of our world. We rely on her wisdom, on hearing her laugh. She motivates us to be better alphas," I reply. Maybe these dreams would be foolish for other alphas, but I know Logan understands me. He understands me now.
"You're right. And the fact that she accepted us makes her truly special," he says thoughtfully.
"She forgive us, something I thought was impossible," I say and he swallows hard. "I didn't mean you. Dom and I did terrible things too: we treated her badly, locked her up, ruined her future, took her land,"
"I know, but no one more than me. And not just her, I hurt you too. I know, and I can't forgive myself," he says in anguish.
"We have forgiven you, so you should forgive yourself. There's no point in dwelling on it. We have to show that we deserve her, or at least try," I say, and he looks more relaxed.
"Thanks, Kurt. We always say Dominic is the smart one, but you have a kind of wisdom we should all acknowledge," he adds suddenly, and I'm surprised.
"Wow, you don't always get a compliment from the older brother!" I exclaim, and we both laugh. It feels... good. But we suddenly hear a noise and realize we're close.
"Looks like a very private and exclusive meeting," Logan says through our mind link; there are no Betas or other wolves around. I can smell the Night Wolves further ahead as we reach what looks like a human town.
"It would be the perfect place for no one to find them. No one would think they are here," I point out, and he nods.
"We need to get closer," he says, and we come to a small bar full of people. It's a roadhouse, and I gesture that there must be a back room. We go up and crouch down. In the back we found a small gathering of Alphas, and there, in the middle, was Gerard.
That motherfucker.
There are so many people that our scent should go unnoticed. Behind them, in the forest, our warriors are waiting. We didn't want to attack, get what we needed and leave.
Gerard is with at least five Alphas from both small and large packs. He's standing in front of a table, and we start to listen to what he's saying. Apparently he's talking about human settlements and his plans for them. This information is worth its weight in gold.
"This is a sample of what we can get from the humans," Gerard says. "Have you seen all the women they have? Some of my wolves have already found their mates among them. Human men, they don't value them, so they don't miss women. We've even made deals with some who are willing to give them to us," he explains as the others listen in amazement.
"What about the Council?" asks one of the Alphas.
"They're on our side and understand that what we're proposing is the only solution to our mate situation," Gerard replies. The alphas are big and generally young. I imagine they're without mates, desperate. They heard what Gerard explain like he was kind of an angel with the solution to all their problems.
"And what do we do about the Three Dragons?"
"It's said that they have control over the humans and at least claim the cities, since they have a human mate." one alpha adds.
"A human Luna?" another asks in astonishment.
"Gentlemen, I wouldn't suggest that without calculating everything. The Three Dragons are not what you think. The Council has asked for their Luna, and they know it would be treason if she didn't show up. And she will be mine," Gerard growls. Logan and I hold back.
"But they say the human Luna triumphed in the rite, that makes her real," a blonde points out.
"That's true, but she will be the Luna of Moonvalley and will control the humans. But I will take the pack and the territory, and her," he says, and everyone stirs in amazement.
"Calm down, gentlemen. I'll tell you more about my plan, but first I want to invite someone, She will provide more information" Gerard says. She?
"Irina?" Logan asks. The she-wolf is wearing a long blazer and high heels. I don't think I've ever seen her dressed up like that. And an incredible show unfolded before our eyes.
What the actual fuck?
