Chapter 126: The alpha in decline
Logan
"How are the prisoners?"
The crimes our uncle committed against us and the pack have been played down in front of the other members, but we will never overlook them.
"The Luna has barely left her room and the former Alpha has made several requests that have been denied," Arthur answers.
"Good, keep it that way. And please don't let anyone else meet with him, no matter who asks."
"It will be done, Alpha," he replies. As I'm about to enter the room, I stop and turn around. "By the way, my brothers have noticed your loyalty and honor, warrior. I know you're true to me and have followed orders and requests even when they weren't always right."
"You know I will follow you to the end, Alpha."
"Why?" I ask him. "You can speak openly. I expect honesty."
"Many wolves believe that some things have to change. The lack of mates is a fear that looms over us all."
"Are you afraid to share?" I ask, but he shakes his head.
"Not really, but I am afraid that we won't find the mates or that we will lose them to other packs. A wolf is nothing without its mate," the warrior concludes. I feel a sharp pain in my chest, for his words are true.
"We won't let that happen. We will fight for our pack and for the right of all wolves... for all their mates."
"Until the end," he says, and I like the sound of that.
"Until the end. And please convey this security and support to my brothers. If you can believe in us in your heart, you must know that they are fighting for the same thing."
"I will, Alpha," he replies. When I enter the room, I find my uncle writing letters, but he hides them as soon as he realizes he's no longer alone.
"Uncle..."
"Mmmm, Logan. I was wondering when I was going to see you. It's been a few days since all that nonsense. And while I'm sure your brothers are quite pleased, it's time for this charade to end," he answers with certainty and authority.
I don't know if it's because of everything that's happened, or because the human has been recognized by most of the pack as the official Luna, or maybe because we're old enough to take charge now... but my uncle's strength seems to be waning.
"I'm not sure what you mean, Uncle. The evidence has been presented; I presented it myself."
"Enough, Logan! You and I both know that your idiot brothers can't rule, let alone a human as Luna! Your brothers can have her and have some fun with her until they find a wolf to give them strong sons."
"What did you mean?"
"That your brothers are in love with this human, and when they get tired of fucking her, they'll come to their senses." I don't like the way he talks about her, or how lightly he takes the situation.
"We'll kill the damn old man" my wolf growls, and I'm surprised at his violence against a family member.
"She is the fated Luna of this pack," I insist.
"Will she be your mate too? Will you share her with your brothers? Fuck her while they are fucking her? Is that what you want to tell me, Logan? Because the boy I know would rather do anything than stoop so low. She's a small, weak girl, she won't be able to handle three Alphas. She's a pathetic little thing," he says contemptuously. I growl. I've known for a long time that she's not weak, let alone a little thing. And I don't feel sorry for her. I feel something else.
I approach him and study him closely. Now he seems like a very different man from the one I once knew and trusted. He looks tired and haggard; he must not be well, but the fall of powerful men is never easy. I know this all too well.
"You don't seem to know me at all, Uncle. For I would never sacrifice the welfare of the pack or anyone else for a whim or personal ambition. I must admit, I wasn't sure she was the Luna we deserved. But the rite has spoken and with it the goddess and her will," I answer, noticing the surprise in his expression.
"I was right... you should never have had the power, let alone kept it after your father's death," he says incredulously, and I growl.
"You robbed us of our birthright. Why? It can't be just for power and ambition. There must be more," he seems stunned by my persistence and by the fact that I'm standing up to him.
"He still believes we're his allies, that we're on his side," Morgan whispers.
"For the good of the pack, as you said yourself. The pack must be led by the best option, and I'm more and more certain that isn't you and your human whore" he replies, feigning conviction, but I'm not fooled. Morgan growls, I sense a wave of hate every time he speaks ill of her.
"The position was never yours. It was just supposed to be yours until we came of age and had the experience. We have it now, and we've proven it on several occasions"
"You don't have it! You're ungrateful, spoiled kids playing at being alphas! Stupid boys who are now at the feet of a human bitch!" I push him, and he falls onto the table, knocking over objects, papers, and more.
"Stop speaking ill of her, or I swear...!"
"You fell too, didn't you? She's got you wrapped up in her cunt. It's only a matter of time before you're on your knees to her. Moonvalley will have no salvation; we will be utterly lost. The Goddess will curse us for having a weak human as her representative here on Earth," he declares. Now I'm completely sure he's lost his mind.
"I don't care what you think, Uncle, but I'm sure of one thing: I'm going to find out what you're up to. You're in alliance with the Council. Who knows how long that's been. Tell me what your plans are!" I demand, no longer engaged in a friendly conversation; now I'm demanding exactly what I want and need.
"The Council... they support all wolves and..." he starts to answer, but I grab his collar and cut him off.
"The Council has plans of its own, including plans for the Night Wolves. What do they have on them? Why are they supporting them? What is Gerard offering? Tell me, or I swear I'll end you..." I shake him as he stands there in shock.
"You don't know what you're saying. There's nothing..." he stammers, and I let him go, letting him fall to the ground with a thud.
"You'll tell me sooner or later, and you'll tell me about your alleged lineage," I declare, and his eyes widen. He falls silent, and I know that I won't get any more information from him for now.
"I'll be back, Uncle, and I'll be less friendly. You drugged my brothers, and because of that... we will have no mercy" I conclude and leave the room.
I"Do not let him communicate with anyone. If anyone tries to talk to him or send him a message, inform me immediately. And give him wolfsbane, don't let anyone near him, I trust you, Arthur". I command to the warrior.
"As you wish, Alpha."
I've made many mistakes, but I intend to make up for them, one by one.
