Chapter 6: Our long awaited mate
Dominic
"These wolves are playing dirty," Kurt complained.
"This is a waste of time," Logan said, bitter as usual.
He had a terrible temper and was only a few minutes older than me, but that simple fact gave him power.
He was supposed to be the Alpha heir, but it all depended on whether we found our mate or chose one.
As triplets, there was a high probability that we would share a mate, especially considering the situation of the pack... well, of all the packs, with the issue of she-wolves.
They were valuable, treasured, and many had multiple mates.
"I say we go and destroy this sad town" said Kurt, who, as always, only cared about parties and fighting.
"There is supposed to be an agreement with the human towns that they will let us operate in their territories as long as we keep the peace, but the foolish Night Wolves want to keep fighting. Apparently, they take human girls," I explained.
"Human girls?" Logan asked interested.
"Yes, they want to see if some of them can be mates for some wolves..."
"You can't blame them... some are going crazy without finding their mates," said Lionel and Liam, our twin friends and our betas. They were a pair of identical blondes, and unlike us, they acted as one.
"You have to be very desperate to have human mates. I wouldn't have one if my life depended on it," Logan said contemptuously, and the twins shrugged.
"We wouldn't mind... we could share a sweet human..."
"Oh yeah," Lionel said with a grin.
Suddenly, as we walked to a building that seems a club... I smelled a fantastic scent and froze.
"What the hell?" Kurt said.
"You smelled it too?" I asked. My wolf was howling.
"Yes... and by the look on Logan's face, so did he."
"No, I didn't feel anything," Logan said, but I thought he was lying. However, the twins were also restless.
"Maybe it's just a prey," I said, although my wolf urged me to go over there. The scent was too intriguing to be a mere prey.
"Easy Damiano... focus" I said to him.
Over there, was a space between the packs. It was a territory that belonged to humans, but like so many others, we wolves had taken it.
But it was that, or they will be killed by another pack, and although everyone thinks we are a cruel species, it was mercy.
"There are wolves hiding there," said one of the twins, searching outside the town, pointing to a warehouse.
"It smells like human blood..." Logan said, and it was true, I didn't like this situation.
"Let's attack," I said, and they all nodded.
I didn't know how many wolves would be inside, but it was the three of us, with our two betas and some warriors accompanying us. We usually didn't lose battles, and this one didn't have to be any different.
"Yeah, let's go kick some asses," the twins said in unison.
As we entered the warehouse, several men turned into wolves and immediately attacked us.
"The Three Dragons of Moonvalley!" some of them shouted and ran away in fear. My brothers and I hadn't even turned into wolves when we started killing our enemies.
"They're Night wolves! It's our lucky day!" Kurt shouted through the mindlink. We had waited months for an excuse to finish off these bastards, and the moment had finally arrived.
"Whoever finds that nasty Alpha Gerard will have the other brothers as servants for a whole month!" I said through the mindlink, and my brothers roared.
I wanted to find him, the Alpha who had made our lives impossible in the past. I wanted to kill him, and this was the perfect excuse. They were trading humans, and even though we didn't care... a deal between wolves was sacred.
The twins seemed to be fighting when they suddenly started howling like crazy, veering off the path.
"It's true Alpha... there are humans here, women," one of our warriors said.
"Wait… we're supposed to have a truce not to touch humans," Kurt replies, distraught.
"This will bring us trouble!" Logan adds.
"We're supposed to be saving them!" I shouted.
But then... it was all so quiet. Something was happening, that kind of moment in life that you know you will remember forever.
"She's here..." Kurt said, almost shaking, and I felt the world come crashing down on me.
"She? You mean..."
"Yes... our mate."
And I felt it again. The sweet scent penetrated my nose and shook me, it was so delicious that my head was spinning.
By the goddess... Yes! It was her!
But I saw her, and she wasn't a wolf... she was a human. A poor human, one of those they had imprisoned here.
"It can't be," Logan said.
As I approached, the scent definitely came from the girl, who was wearing a short silver dress, shaking like a leaf and screaming like crazy.
"It's her, help her... let's save mate, let's be her hero" my wolf Damiano demanded. She smelled like cherries to me.
"Mate! She needs us!"
No, I need her. My heart jumping.
"She's beautiful, she has beautiful legs and that dress... I don't want anyone to see her like that," Kurt said, happier than I'd ever seen him.
Logan resisted, but I could see the wolf in him almost coming out, he needs her too.
"This must be a mistake..." he repeated over and over.
"She's ours!" I shouted, but when I saw her face I had to take a few steps back, I couldn't believe this was possible.
"No!"
"It can't be!"
"This must be a mistake!" we said, and she fainted when she saw us.
"It's her! It's her! Help, mate!" my wolf begged.
"She... no..."
"What do we do?" asked Kurt, kneeling down to hold her.
"This... must be a joke. Someone wants to play a trick on us," Logan said. The twins were missing, no one could help us.
But the reality was that no one could tell us if this was true or not. Only we would know if she was really our mate.
My head said no, my wolf howled fucking yes.
"We can't leave her here," I said, holding her in my arms, and it felt... so good. She was small, her body was soft, I didn't want to let her go. I want to touch her, kiss her, treasure her.
"What are you doing?" Logan asked, scared.
"We need to find out what's going on, if she's really ours..." I said.
"Don't say it. Don't say the word," he told me angrily.
"I'm with Dom on this one...whether it's true or false, we won't know until we find out more," Kurt said.
In the car, I didn't let her go. I carried her to the infirmary, Kurt holding her hand, entangling his fingers in her hair, she looked weak and beaten.
So many years of searching for our mate in other packs... traveling, wondering. And she was here? Was it that annoying little girl?
"Doctor! Help!" Kurt shouted.
"By the goddess! Leave her here!" said Doctor Karim, and as I put her on the stretcher... my hands ached from holding her.
Kurt didn't let go of her hand, Logan was sweating...
Damn it... what have we gotten ourselves into?
