Chapter 65: Returning to our mate
Kurt
Damn, those rogue bastards hadn't made it easy. They had come out of nowhere just when we thought we had them under control. I had about three of them on top of me; they knew we wouldn't leave them alive, that the Three Dragons had come to kill, and so they were fighting for their lives.
"Kill them all!" my wolf Ajax commanded as I shook them off. I had gone after them while Logan fought the rest in the camp. Suddenly they seemed to have formed a group and were coming after me. All I could think was that I had to get out of here, that my mate was waiting for me.
"Stupid Alpha wannabe, the time of the Alphas is over, now it's the time of the rogues!" one of them yelled at me as I suddenly saw claws ripping the head off the rogue and a gray wolf growling at me.
"You took your time, Dominic," I said, and he turned into a human and gave me a hand to lift me up.
"I came as soon as I could, leaving our mate in the middle of a date, so be thankful I'm here."
"Is she okay?"
"She's with the twins. We'll be with her soon, brother. Let's finish this plague!" we found the camp full of blood and fire. I was wounded and exhausted.
"Logan!" I yelled as we arrived and saw him being attacked by several rogues. I knew that many of our warriors were searching for the others who had fled.
But now the Three Dragons were together, and I felt we could handle anything. We had many differences; Logan still deserved a good beating from us after what he had done... but here we were as one, fighting for our family, our pack... and for her.
Dominic is a strategist, the brains of this triad. Immediately I saw him acting, calling the other warriors, surrounding the rogues, his wolf roaring with power.
Logan regained his strength immediately, and I saw his wolf Morgan's claws rip through those in front of him. I finished off those who fled and ran. My brothers gathered strength, and soon we had them destroyed. Everything was destroyed, it was a massacre.
"Mate is safe," Ajax rumbled in my head.
"For now," I snorted. I approached Logan, who was wounded and had bites on his paws, and I cured my arm as well.
"I'm fine, brother," he said, exhausted. It had been hours of fighting, worse than we had imagined, but we were alive, and now we would return to the pack.
Dominic arrived limping and worn out. We surveyed the damage for a while, making sure we had done everything we were supposed to do in this situation.
"Let's go home," Dominic confirmed while Logan leaned on him to walk.
We drove into town and got into our cars. I knew he was as anxious to get back as I was. I dreamed of seeing Maddie. Our stay in the town had been wonderful, but my wolf and I wouldn't be at peace until we were with her.
But nothing could prepare me for what my eyes saw.
Maddie came running out of the pack house. She was wearing a long coat that revealed a seductive black dress underneath, barefoot, her hair loose and wavy, and she was crying. But it wasn't from sadness, I found out later, it was from emotion, fear, hope, seeing us.
"Mates, mates!" she came running towards us, and I swear it was the best moment of my life. She threw her arms around my neck and I picked her up immediately. Dom came up behind us to help Logan, and she held out her hands to him while he kissed her fingers.
"Here we are, mate," he sighed. From here, I could hear his hearts pounding, as excited as I was. Even Logan seemed happy to see her, even though he denied it.
"Maddie, my love... are you okay?" I asked as I wiped away her tears.
"I am... now that you're here, I was afraid... I wouldn't see you again," she said anxious and kissed my face.
I was ecstatic, I thought I looked terrible and wounded, but she saw me with dreamy eyes. My wolf Ajax purred happily. This was the perfect moment, no matter what had happened hours ago, everything we had to go through. It was all worth it to have her like this, in my arms. She really wanted to be with us. It was a dream come true. But of course, nothing was perfect.
"Nephews... in my office now," my uncle said at the door of the pack house. It seemed as if we had done something wrong as he looked at us angrily.
"Uncle, we're tired, we just want to clean up and tend to our wounds," Dominic said, and it seemed like he had said something terrible, as our uncle roared.
"Now! Obey your Alpha!" he yelled and left. Luna Vera was watching us, and I couldn't help but notice her giving Maddie a dirty look.
"You better listen to your uncle," she snapped.
Logan growled and we reluctantly left. I didn't let go of my mate, feeling that she needed us as much as we needed her. When we entered the room, Logan collapsed on one of the couches with a groan. Dominic stood with his arms crossed, and I sat with Maddie on my lap.
"The human..." my uncle said, giving me a look of disdain.
"She stays, and her name is Madeleine, Luna Madeleine," I said with authority, and he hissed through his teeth, but he knew it was true. He was the one who insisted we take her in, and now he was complaining?
"Can you tell me what the hell is going on? I hear reports that you offered help to humans, compromising our forces, that you've made outrageous demands of the Council, that you've even fought with other wolves, including rogues who were in the forest... do you want to start a war? Do you want our pack to fall?" he demanded angrily. I no longer knew if our uncle really cared about us, or if he was too cowardly and only worried about conflicts.
"Uncle, the rogues attacked us first, they searched our houses, they robbed us," Dominic explained in more detail, while our uncle didn't know what to do anymore.
"And as for the humans, we have to rethink our position. You yourself say that we should get along with everyone and avoid problems. Unfortunately, the difficulties of our world are now being experienced by humans, and we can't just stand by and watch," I said. We talked for a couple of hours while our mate stayed in my arms, attentive.
"Can we go rest now?" Dominic asked, and it seemed that this wasn't over yet. Even though our uncle had given us permission to leave.
"Mate, it's just for a moment," I said as I left her in our room, she seems she wouldn't let me go. The doctor examined us and we bathed and changed. For goodness’s sake, all I wanted to do was go to bed with her.
When we returned to the room, Maddie was waiting for us and lay in my arms to kiss me. I felt that she wanted more. Logan grumbled and I saw him leave abruptly. Was he really avoiding our mate? I couldn't believe it.
"I missed you so much, I thought I'd never see you again," she said, greeting Dominic with kisses and touches, and when she took off her dress, I couldn't believe it.
