Chapter 37: Preparations
Maddie
I woke up thinking the day had come. Early on I could hear the bustle of the packhouse and the preparations. It seemed like something special. When I went to breakfast, I sat with Robin at an isolated table. As usual, we were away from the others. Apparently, after this presentation, we wouldn't be hidden anymore.
Well, we wouldn't be hidden anymore, we won´t be here.
"I must say, it hurts to leave the twins. I never thought I'd say this! I don't even like blond men at all, although I doubt there is a heterosexual woman on earth who doesn't like them," she said, moving the food on her plate sadly.
"I fell you girl, I don't know if it's Stockholm Syndrome or what the hell, but believe me, I get you."
The night before, Dominic and Kurt had come to sleep with me, but they didn't try to seduce me or anything, they just hold me and kept saying how happy they were that the next day we would be together forever. The idea seemed sweet and romantic to me, but it also scared me a lot.
"It must be something like that. I swear this is not normal, I like romantic stories and all that, but this is beyond any reality. Besides, we can't live here! What are we going to do? I can't even tell which twin is which!” she said, and I saw the same duality in my friend: fear and pain of leaving, but also of staying.
"We don't belong here, Robin," I say, and she comes closer to speak very quietly.
"The twins prepared a dress for me, and I told them I was using some sneakers to be more comfortable. What I didn't tell them is that I also hid some clothes so we can change. I also have the lotion with a little more perfume; these men really like our natural scent," she said, wrinkling her face.
"I know where the cars are, and they leave the keys where they are because no one is going to steal anything here. We'll have to wait until the party's pretty lively, hopefully with alcohol, so they won't notice if we escape," she explained, and it seemed like an excellent plan; my friend had really thought of everything. Now came my part.
"Our worst option is to go through the woods. We need to stay on the avenues and routes most frequented by humans. I say we go straight to the factory where my father worked, I'm sure we'll find a message from my brother there, maybe even him," I said enthusiastically.
Nothing had prepared me for this. Things like this only happened in movies and ended well, but that didn't mean we would succeed.
"It sounds pretty good... I think I can distract the twins. We have to take a few things with us so they think we were kidnapped or magically disappeared," she said. I didn't even want to think about what would happen afterward and how they would react. I had to admit that I was completely terrified.
"The problem is still Logan. I'm sure he'll come looking for me eventually," I said.
"Then, before you leave, you must find him. He will prevent you from being presented, won't he? You have to approach him and assure him that everything is going well and mention that you're worried about your family and that he should provide some proof. Maybe you can lose him for a moment".
"That's an excellent idea," I said thoughtfully, although I knew it would be extremely difficult, as I became excessively nervous when I was around him. It seemed to me that his blue eyes could see right through me. I would have to distract him, but how?
"We'll get out of here one way or another. That's the first step. Then maybe we can go to a human house, ask for help, maybe go to the police," she said.
"We have to tell the humans what's happening," I say, and she nods. Suddenly, I see the twins coming.
"Remember, no one can even imagine what we're planning. Today, you have to give them all the confidence that you'll be back in their bed tomorrow," I whisper.
"First part of the escape plan, in action," she whispers to me and walks away with them.
I sigh and hold my head. I wasn't sure if the mate bond would keep these men from killing us; I had seen what werewolves were capable of, and it wasn't a walk in the park.
All afternoon I tried to prepare some things to take with me, choosing only what was absolutely necessary, leaving cosmetics and things scattered around the room so they wouldn't think I was running away. As sunset approached, my stomach began to hurt from the stress of the situation.
I almost jumped when Kurt opened the door looking for me.
"Mate... I finally get a moment to see you," he said, looking really worried that he didn't have me around. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I was just checking my stuff..."
"Do you need anything? Whatever you want, you'll get it,"
"I was just thinking... what to wear to the ceremony tonight!" I replied, perhaps too enthusiastically.
"Actually, Dom and I had something prepared," he said, pulling a huge box out of the closet.
"You see, the color of the pack is purple, but since this is the first presentation, we thought this color would look wonderful on you," he said, and when I opened the box, I saw a dress that looked like a princess's, with a sort of embroidered corset that marked the waist and a long, wide skirt, all in lilac. It was just beautiful.
"Of course, if you don't like it... we can find something else," he said, looking nervous now.
"No, it's really wonderful. Thank you," I said, and he seemed pleased to see me so receptive.
"In a while some Omegas will come to do your makeup and hair," he said, and I didn't want to deal with anyone else.
"No, please, I'd rather do it myself. Trust me, I'm quite good at," I said, and he took my face, stroking my cheekbones.
"You look beautiful the way you are, you don't need anything. It's just something some girls do," he said, and for a second he hypnotized me, and I had to get out of this trance.
"How about I prepare a bath for you? You look a little tense. I'll stay here if you need anything," he said, and in a few minutes I heard the water running in the bathtub, with some floral scents, and he left me there.
I took off my clothes and immersed myself in the warm water, not understanding why I had never used this tub before, it's fantastic!
There were already some bubbles and there was a light floral scent. Suddenly it seemed as if I had fallen asleep when I heard his voice.
"Mate? I just wanted to know if you were okay..." he said and I just mumbled and he came in worried.
"Is something wrong...?" he asked, and suddenly he was staring at me.
I saw in his gaze that need, that hunger that seemed to consume him, and I bit my lip and sat up in the almost cooling water, my breasts brushing the surface. I should have kept control and stayed away from them, but the way Kurt looked at me made me feel like I was on fire.
