Chapter 155: A threat
Logan
"Get up... move your lazy ass,"
My consciousness drifts in and out. I have no idea how long I've been here. That attack in the middle of the forest, in that lab, feels so far away, as if it happened years ago. I was injured, on the brink of death... those beasts had defeated me, or maybe I was just too weak. Being away from her had taken its toll on me.
"We have lost our strength bit by bit. We need her close and now mate needs our help," the voice says, and I realize it's Morgan, my wolf. I feel the urgency to get up, even though I don't understand what's happening. My whole body aches and I start to hear beeping. Damn, I'm hooked up to several machines.
The infirmary... I'm on a stretcher. And she was here, I can tell by her scent. It wasn't long ago.
"Mate looked after us, stayed with us day and night. She only left because someone took her," Morgan growls.
"Who took her?" I ask aloud, but there's no answer. I rise as if some supernatural force is pushing me, following her scent. No, it can't be! Did she go out the window? I hear voices and footsteps approaching the room. I pull on my pants and jump out. My legs hurt, but I continued.
"Into the forest, let's go, she needs us," Morgan urges me and I run as fast as I can. Now I understand. We need her too. I see movement: cars coming and going, bringing humans, and injured wolves.
"What's going on?" I ask one of the twins, who looks at me as if he's seen a ghost.
"Alpha, what are you doing here? You should be resting."
"What happened?" They explain briefly about the human town, and I know I have to go there. "Take me to her," I demand.
"Alpha, but..."
"Take me now! She needs me!" I shout, panting as I jump into one of the cars. I just hope we get there in time. Lionel joins me, and when we reach the edge of the town, a horrible scene unfolds: my brothers are being attacked. The night wolves are hunting the humans, who are fleeing in terror. And Maddie... she's facing Gerard.
"Mate defends herself well. She's managed to get the attention of the humans, even some of our pack. She is our Luna" Morgan whispers. Maddie radiates some kind of power. It's not a full Luna because of us... oh goddess! the damage I've done!
"We must act," says Lionel.
"And we will. You defend the humans, help them to go to Moonvalley, use the cars at my command. I'll take care of this bastard." The first thing I do is grab some weapons from the car, hand them to a couple of warriors, and signal them to act on my command. I hope everything works. Just as Gerard is about to attack her, I appear.
"She won't fall for your tricks because she's a real Luna, our Luna! and you're a fake Alpha!" I yell and everyone stares at me in shock.
"Logan..." Maddie whispers. Now I see her, really see her: beautiful, strong, a perfect mate. I've been such a fool.
"Logan!" my brothers shout, regaining their strength. The power of the triplets helps them. Now the three of us are together... and if the goddess helps me, we'll be four.
"It will take much more to defeat the Three Dragons, Gerard. You sent beasts, the hypocrites of the Council, pretenders, traitors, spies, rogues and other vermin. But here we are," I growl, and when he least expects it, I give the signal. The cars move and crashes into one of the houses, taking out several enemies and exploding, creating chaos. Wolves run, the beasts cries, and we take advantage of the moment.
"She'll be at my mercy! I'll be the only Alpha... the heir. " Gerard mumbles as I hear my brothers roar in anger. Gerard tries to take Maddie, but she shoots him and I step between them.
"She hurt him!" my wolf says with satisfaction. But Gerard won't give up so easily. He's focused on getting her, and something tells me he'll do anything not to leave empty-handed. He clutches his wounded arm and growls.
"We won't let you take her. We'll kill you and wipe out your pack right here, and you know it," I declare, trying to shield her. I must protect her. He knows he's at a disadvantage, many of his men are wounded... and still.
"Say what you want, Logan. I'm talking to you, Madeleine. You saw what we did here. I'm giving you a chance: surrender to the Council in seven days, they'll be waiting. And you'll be mine." What the fuck?
"The council? Those bastards! What is your fucking goal?" I yell.
"And if I don't?" she cries as I put my hand behind me, and she takes it. It feels... wonderful.
"If you don't... we'll destroy every human town. We'll send all our beasts into the cities."
"You can't!" she cries. I can feel her body shaking. This is bad, terrible.
"You will die, many of your pack. There are too many humans, and they're armed," I spit and Gerard smiles maliciously. In the cities were thousand of humans.
"Maybe... but we'd still take out a lot of them. And in the end...they'll be terrified, and they'd give us their women. They don't value them..." he concludes.
"Bastard!" I shout, and Maddie shakes. I want to kill him, but I need to protect her.
"I'll wait for you, Madeleine, you can make the difference. Remember, they don't care about you" Gerard says and commands his minions behind him, "Kill them... leave her untouched. Finish off the humans, take the women," Gerard mutters. As he turns away, more beasts appear. He disappears into the darkness between the trees, leaving us in this nightmare.
"Run!" I shout, carrying her.
"No! No! The town!" Maddie cries.
"We'll get everyone out, I promise," I assure her as I run with her in my arms. My brothers continue to fight, protecting the rest of humans, the women are in the cars by now. But we have to get her out.
"Everyone out! Take the humans!"
I pray that no one is left behind. My brothers, the Golden Boys and the Warriors fight as best they can, but the battle is lost, they leave at the end. In the distance, I see the beasts destroying the houses, while my mate cries in my arms.
