Chapter 83: The ritual
Maddie
"A ritual? What is this ritual about?" I asked as the arguments started again. My mates were outraged, screaming and wanting to tear Logan apart.
This supposed ceremony, which was intended to be happy and peaceful, where the pack would get to know me, had turned into a real nightmare. The council members, as well as Oscar, didn't hold back in showing me that I was unwanted and weak. Now I had hundreds of eyes on me like a cockroach; it was a dreadful situation.
They talked about my strength, my condition as a human, my sex life, and even my ability to have children. What insanity is this! And even though Dominic and Kurt defended me, I couldn't ignore the contempt on Logan's face, and of course the hateful look that girl Irina gave me.
My mates had already told me that she was working with Logan, but they had never imagined this. The girl looked stunning, sexy and elegant like a queen; while here I was, in a dress I thought looked good on me, now feeling completely ridiculous. I remembered the words she had said to me... she wanted him, she wanted to keep him for herself, she wasn't playing around.
"No, this ritual was created for wolves, for big wolves from many years ago, when life was even wilder. It's not meant for a girl," Dominic said in horror. And I had to admit, the word 'ritual' didn't sound pleasant at all; it scared me, as if they were going to sacrifice my life.
"That's why I'm proposing it Alpha, you say she's strong…. so she has to prove it. Countless Lunas before her have done it and survived just fine," Irina said, walking, swaying her hips and moving her perfectly red lips as she spoke.
"Irina, what are you talking about? This isn't what we agreed on," Logan grabbed her arm, he was whispering, looking worried, clearly not fully on board with this suggestion.
"This is madness! This is impossible! She won't do this!" Kurt shouted angrily.
"Our mate doesn't have to prove anything to anyone! She is our true mate!" Dominic screams desperately, and I just wanted to run away.
I regretted the moment I had agreed to all this. I wanted to be with them, but now it seemed like too much. I wasn't prepared for the world of the wolves; it was nothing like what we had imagined.
"What Miss Irina says isn't entirely wrong. For centuries, the rite has been a way for Lunas and Alphas to demonstrate their ability to protect the pack and keep it safe. Some even volunteered to do it," one of the council members said. And I had no idea what this crazy rite was about, but I was sure I wouldn't be volunteering for this.
"It's not very common, but it's not a bad idea. Maybe this could be the solution to our problems," Alpha Oscar said, giving me an intrigued look, as if I were the solution to his problems, and that sounded worse by the minute.
I was sure this man wasn't on my side, even though he insisted I was his nephew's mate. He was hiding something or planning something, and the problem was that I had no proof or idea what the hell was going on.
"We categorically deny this! We were with our mate, we mated, and we wouldn't survive if anything happened to her," Kurt shouted.
He looked so distraught that I couldn't help but feel the need to hold his hand and comfort him, and he looked at me in confusion. I felt fear, terror, and a shiver ran down my spine. What could scare a big, strong Alpha like him?
"But you haven't marked her, have you? You may suffer for a while, that's certain and unfortunate, but if you survive, you can be with me," Irina said, and I could see Logan's irritation, as if he wanted to be with her alone, and now she was mentioning being with all of them... with my mates? Really?
"Don't worry, mate. You're our only one, we will never accept another woman" Dominic whispered to me.
"No, no, no!" Kurt shout, and suddenly everything was decided so easily. I had come to be introduced, and now the ceremony ended abruptly.
"The human must leave today for a place designated by the Council to perform the rite. She will receive no help from anyone and will have no communication with anyone until it is completed."
"No, no, please! Don't do this, this is madness!" Dominic said in horror.
Kurt was held back by the twins as he tried to get to the Council members, screaming and yelling desperately. Logan looked confused and Irina seemed completely proud; this was her plan, no doubt. The look she gave me was one of satisfaction; she waved her hand in a farewell gesture, as if this would be my end.
"This is insane, Logan! You don't know what you're doing!" Kurt screamed as everyone in the pack looked at us in confusion. I could even see some pitying looks directed at me. I had no idea what this was about, but everything pointed to my demise.
"Mates," I said, and now they turned back to me. Dominic's hands were trembling, and I could see his eyes filled with tears. Kurt was being dragged away, screaming as he fought with everyone, even the twins.
"No... Maddie... nooo"
"What are we going to do?" I asked, my voice shaking.
"Prepare her to leave immediately! Now!"
