Chapter 60: The third date
Dominic
"For the goddess, what happened?" Kurt asks as soon as he arrives and sees the house turned upside down.
"They broke into the house and went through her things and ours," I explain.
It seemed unreal, but it was true. Wolves had gotten into the house while we were gone. I don't know if they were looking for something or if they just wanted to make us look weak, as Gerard had intended.
"How could this have happened?"
"We weren't here, and I think it was lucky that she wasn't here either. Her clothes were destroyed and many things were broken." I had screamed and cried when I saw the state of the house. How dare they touch my mate's things?
"And what about our mate?" I ask as I see Maddie in Kurt's arms, a bundle of nerves. I thought he had told her something about what happened here, but obviously he hadn't. Something else was going on.
"Her brother told her the most horrible things. She's devastated," he says through our mindlink.
"I'm going to kill him!" I roar, and when I turn around, I see that Logan is also angry. He is giving our mate a hard time, but if anyone else dares to say anything to her, he seems ready to bare his claws.
"We can't do that. We have to distract her," Kurt replies as I take her in my arms.
She clings to my neck and I kiss her face. That was the last straw; too many things were happening, and we were three, but we seemed completely out of sync. We were attacked from all sides.
"We have to get her out of here. At least with this attack, we have the freshest scent and can track them. We're ready to go," Logan said.
Our brother had been very careful about security. We had checked part of the town and the woods, but the tracks were cooling off; they seemed to be designed to distract us, to make us lose our way and end up right under our noses.
"Are you interested in our mate now?" Kurt asks and Logan grumbles.
"While we decide what to do with her, it's better to keep her safe. Do I have to explain to you what will happen if the enemy takes her again and really finishes her off?" he answers sarcastically through the mindlink.
"Well, what's the plan?" Kurt replies.
"We need to cover more territory, the scent is definitely of the rogues."
"Damn beasts. I'll go, I want to finish off the bastards. The Council has no rules against killing rogues; so… it's my time to unleash the hate and rage I have inside me," my younger brother says with satisfaction, and I sigh.
"Stay with her, Dom. Keep her out of the human world if possible. When it's clear, we'll decide what to do," Logan mentions.
He doesn't have to tell me twice to spend some time alone with her and comfort her. I take one of the cars and put her in the passenger seat. She, who has relaxed with my proximity, has fallen into a deep sleep.
"Don't lose sight of him," I say through the mindlink to Kurt, meaning Logan.
"I'll be on his tail like a lapdog," he answers with a smile.
"Good hunting," I say to both of them and say goodbye.
The whole situation made me uncomfortable, but our priority was her, and I knew she was perfectly safe in my hands. I drove for a while until I reached one of the nearby cities, which was quite large. Here our trail would be lost.
I didn't like cities; they were too far from the forest and nature, although I could understand their charm. We could live with her in a place like this, away from everything, I thought dreamily. Though I knew, it would be too strange for humans to see a girl with three giant men.
"Where are we?" she asks when she wakes up in the morning and sees the tall buildings and lights.
"You slept all night, mate. I wanted you to be in a place away from everything that's going on in the city, and besides... we never had our date. How about we do it now? I know you're going through a lot and I just want to help," I say, stroking her face as we park.
"All right," she says, giving me a small smile, and we start walking through the streets.
It was wonderful because everything seemed as new to me as it did to her. We had breakfast at a small diner, pancakes and coffee. We visited an art gallery and some beautiful places, and as we passed a shopping mall, I remembered that she no longer had any clothes except for the ones in our pack.
"How about we buy some things? It seems like some of the things you had at the house were affected," I say without giving her any more details. I take the opportunity to kiss her to calm her down a bit, and it seems to work.
"Okay," she says, and we walk in hand.
I can't help but notice how many people are watching us. I know wolves are pretty noticeable, but a lot of people are looking at her and then at me. A bunch of women are looking me up and down with smiles and biting their lips, while I only have eyes for my Maddie.
I buy a new outfit to change out of the one I had in the woods, and she helps me pick, I love her preferences and she seems delighted to see me in clothes she chooses.
Amazing. And when we pass a very attractive women's clothing store she gets excited.
"Wow, that store is beautiful," and I see her eyes light up.
"Then let's go in right away, and pick whatever you want mate"
The place is lovely, full of all kinds of clothes. I knew she needed a little bit of everything, but as she chose, I watched her contentedly, taking the opportunity to add a few dresses, jeans, pajamas, and underwear.
"I'm going to try this on," she said excitedly, handing the clothes to one of the saleswoman, a blonde woman, who couldn't take her eyes off me.
"Would you show me what it looks like?" I asked, and she agreed. The woman couldn't believe our interaction.
I was too excited by the idea of such a simple and everyday situation. I sat and waited for her, and when she came out in a simple pants outfit, I was already enchanted.
"You look beautiful," I said, mesmerized, and as she came out with more outfits, I fell even more in love: dresses, cardigans, jeans, shorts. I appreciate her curves, her smile, everything. I couldn't believe that men get bored watching their girlfriends or wives go shopping and show them all these beautiful outfits on their lovely figures!
I took the opportunity to get her more clothes, and at one point… she just wouldn't come out.
"What's wrong, Maddie?"
"I think I made a mistake. This outfit is too..." but she just goes silent.
"I think it just doesn't suit her," the saleswoman whispered to me.
"Excuse me?"
"I mean, it's not exactly her size. She's a girl who doesn't have a very nice figure," the saleswoman said, placing a hand on my arm, clearly flirting. What the hell?
"I'm pretty sure you are wrong" I brushed her aside, went straight to the fitting room, and let out a growl when I saw my mate reflected in the mirror in an outfit that made me want to take her right then and there.
