Chapter 111: News from the alpha
Maddie
I had spent years resisting the wolves, hating them not so quietly, wanting to destroy them, lamenting the fact that I had to share my world with them, and blaming them for all the tragedies in my life. And while our worlds had collided, and no doubt many wolves had tried to take advantage of humans, I felt more and more that our lives were not so far apart, and that I in particular was meant to be with them.
Just seeing Kurt and Dominic lit up my world. It was something I couldn't even explain, as if the feeling itself surpassed logic and my ability to put this emotion into words.
The feelings ruled me, I couldn't control them and I felt my chest tighten, my knees tremble just at the sight of them. I should be aware of everything that was happening around me, knowing that we were between life and death, that my life had been at stake for several days. But I could only concentrate on the two Alphas fighting those horrible beasts. I watched them, dedicated, but they kept looking at me, as if they were struggling with temptation, with the overwhelming urge to come to me.
And when they were near, I felt faint. I sought refuge in their lips, lost in their scents, their sighs, and their smiles. I let my guard down, and for a few seconds I stopped being the human girl who fought against everything and lost myself in their arms. Kurt returned to his human form - his wolf had been magnificent, but now he was my blond boy who comforted me.
"Our mate... our precious mate..." I heard them sigh, and when I looked at them closely, I realized with fear that they looked exhausted, even sick. But I didn't even have time to catch up with them, to understand where they had been and what had happened, when Alpha Oscar appeared to interrupt us.
I naively thought that maybe he had come to help us, that he was here with his nephews... that he had suddenly realized the mistake he had made, and now the pack wanted me as their Luna. Nothing could be further from the truth! What he said next was really shocking.
"I knew you wouldn't be able to control yourself, stupid boys."
"What?"
"Uncle?"
"What are you talking about?" my mates exclaimed, while Robin also looked lost.
"I was sure you would interfere with the ritual, and here you are with her, doing everything possible to make sure she survived, when it was obvious from the beginning that she wouldn't," he stated with such certainty that I was terrified, and my mates were deeply offended.
"How dare you say such a thing?" they replied, scandalized.
"Well, it's all too clear! You're here to help her! Not only that, you brought that stupid beta with you! That is the only reason she survived!" he said, as I was a complete fraud. As if I hadn't risked my life the whole time!
" I was alone in the forest for so long, and all you did was send enemies to kill me! You, the Council, sent thugs, rogues!" I shouted, shaking with anger. After all that had happened, after all I had been through, now they were trying to accuse me and say I had help?
"What are you talking, girl? Shut up! My foolish nephews are completely under your spell and have come to save you! Just look at yourselves!" Oscar shouted, and Dominic stepped in front of him, challenging him. I saw a flicker of fear in the old Alpha's eyes, for my mates were determined.
"You can't talk to her like that! I don't know what you're involved in, uncle, but I'm more certain than ever that you're not on our side. Take back everything you've said and all those insinuations, because our mate is in great danger, and it's your fault for exposing her! Take back your injurious words!" Dominic shouted, and Kurt backed him up. Even the smaller wolf showed his teeth, showing his anger.
"I have no idea what you're accusing me of, nephew, but if you have a problem, and you're so sure, let's prove it in front of the pack, in front of everyone!" Oscar declared, and this was a threat I didn't like at all.
"What we're going to prove is that our mate was put in danger and that she was set up!" Kurt snapped.
"Nephews, a ritual took place with very specific rules and you know them. It is essential that the potential Luna prove her abilities alone. And here I am before you - this was violated! Not only by her, but also by you. Both of you must face the pack and answer for your failures!" Oscar argued and my heart raced.
This was even worse than I thought, because it sounded like we were heading into a trial where I would have to prove not only that I had passed the rite, but also my innocence, that I hadn't received any help. It seemed clear that not only the Alpha, but others were against us, and to make matters worse, my mates would be judged as well. A trial where we are already considered guilty.
"We won't go. We won't put our mate at any more risk," Dominic concluded. As much as I didn't like turning my back on my problems, I had to admit that fear was controlling me now. We had just recovered, and we didn't even know if Liam was well enough to face another danger. But the Alpha gave a signal and a whistle, and a large group of warriors appeared. They were tall, wore a different kind of uniform, and I doubted they were from Moonvalley.
"Once again, nephews, you don't seem to understand. There is no choice. You must come with us, for the ritual has been compromised. It's all your fault!"
"Stop it! It makes no sense!"
"Who are these warriors? Stop this madness, Uncle!" my mates shouted, but the warriors began to grab me as they fought.
"Don't you dare hurt her!" they screamed, but there were too many, and I lost hope. They had Robin, and I feared we would have to face another battle here.
"Go in peace, and no one will be hurt. You are my family and I would never hurt you, if you had just stayed in the herd like I intended, none of this would have happened." Oscar says, and I couldn't believe that after all this adversity, we were about to fall at the hands of those who should have supported us.
