Chapter 154: Human Luna
Maddie
"Mate!"
"Stay away from her!" my mates shout from the distance. Gerard has me cornered while my mates fight the beasts and the approaching pack of wolves and rogues. Not to mention I´m protecting the family behind me. I'm trapped.
"We meet again, little Luna," Gerard says, and I am filled with rage. What they've done to my town, to my family! It's unforgivable.
"Of course you are here, terrorizing us! What were you doing in my town?" I yell, without fear. I point my gun at him, even though I know I can't really hurt him. It would take more than that to bring down an Alpha like him, but I would try. I was sure of that.
"Your town? Don't think for a moment that this is your territory. This territory is ours. It's been ours for some time now," he replies arrogantly.
"You tried to infiltrate the town and torture these people who have done nothing to you! You've been terrorizing us for a long time, taking our possessions and our land. But that will stop now! The people are under the protection of Moonvalley and its three Alphas! I shout as I hear the distant roar of my mates. More beasts appear, and everyone knows this Alpha is dangerous.
"Three Alphas? I only see two weak Alphas, and you... their mate. If you're really their mate, that is. As far as I know, you're not marked... maybe we can fix that. We, Night Wolves appreciate women, more than you can even imagine" he sneers as the rest of the humans run for cover. The family behind me shudders. Liam keeps signalling for everyone to take the cars and get away, or escape however they can. Is madness.
Gerard comes towards me, with that thug-like attitude, so full of arrogance, the typical alpha demeanor; as if he could take on anyone and anything. I know him well. I feel fear creeping in and stay still.
"They treat you as a disgrace. You're a human, and for them... you have no honor, and you'll never be one of them, Moonvalley, and its Three Dragons. Proud and vicious men. Alphas who don't support their own people, that don't understand the new world. They will always reject you, no matter what you do. Don't you see already?"
"I won't listen to you" I gasp, and I shot my gun, but he moves so fast.
"Oh yeah you will. You know why? Because I can give you something you need. Something they can't give you, little Luna. Because yes, you are a Luna, they don't understand that"
"What are you talking about?" I ask.
"Don't listen, mate!"
"Don't you dare go near her!" my Alphas shout. They continue to fight, and I know the Moonvalley warriors are helping, but we're in a difficult situation.
"Power. And the place you deserve. You've humbled yourself, submitted without them recognizing your power. They kept you imprisoned," he says, and I look at him in astonishment. "Yes, I know everything. I know that they didn't want you at first, that they treated you like badly. That even the eldest, Logan, rejected you. They still haven't fully accepted the mate bond. And that's a big mistake, for you can be so much more, Madeleine. You're a human, yes... but with the support of the Night Wolves, you can be more, much more. You just need to choose. I can show you..." Gerard says, he has a smile... but his words dripping with venom.
"She's our Luna!" the warriors shout. They recognize me, they support me. But I have to say... there is some true in Gerard's words. My past with the triplets.... but no. They are different now, even Logan.
"Don't listen to a word the bastard says!" my mates shout. I'm caught between a rock and a hard place. More wolves are attacking my mates, and now they've got Liam too. The humans are desperate, running in all directions as the wolves chase them. This is a disaster. I need to stop this.
"Do you see? Even now they want to tell you what to do, they want to control you; when your role in all this is obvious."
"What role?" I ask, confused.
"To be the human Luna, the one who integrates the humans with the wolves. We can become one, one community. We can benefit from each other. And the humans would be safe. Isn't that what you want? Isn't that why you're here, against all odds? Risking your life?" he says, and I feel a wave of anger rise. And I remember Kevin's words and Arthur´treason. They want to use women.
"By 'benefit' you mean you'd take the women and use them as you please? Using women, as always, without us gaining anything? Only suffering!" I say, and I can't believe I'm confronting him so directly. I no longer feel fear, only anger.
"Of course they'd have respect... and an alliance with a superior species," he shouts, suddenly grabbing me by the throat. I kick and struggle.
"Let her go! Let her go, you bastard!" my mates yell. The family behind me scream.
"Come with us and we'll have mercy on your stupid mates," Gerard says. And just when I think it's all over, I hear an explosion. A car is hurtling towards us, crashing into the beasts, the rogues and the enemy wolves.
And I can't believe who it is.
