Chapter 130: The alpha must pay the price
We start to take our uncle to the dungeons. Dominic calls several warriors, including Matt, while Logan joins us. He seems eager to leave as soon as possible. I don't really know if it's because I'm, as they used to say, the carefree and easy-going brother. But to be honest, I don't understand why he wants to distance himself from our mate.
"Prepare the wolfsbane. Oscar has lost his strength, but it's better to keep him sedated. An Alpha is an Alpha," Logan orders. I notice that the warrior Arthur is responsible for Oscar's protection. I didn't know that - or rather, I didn't know anything! Maybe I need to be more aware of what's going on in the pack. I've been too isolated from the affairs and problems of the pack, too focused on mate.
"We will not leave mate under any circumstances," Ajax growls. The truth is, I hate power struggles and pack politics, so I love that my brothers are such hardworking alphas. And I love spending time with Maddie. Every morning alone with her was pure bliss, and she keeps seeking me out and seducing me. Goddess Maddie... she's just too much temptation.
I'm not crazy about Arthur and his new responsibilities, but I know my brothers trust him. Though I must admit, he's a strict man, and it takes a firm hand to be the jailer of our uncle, a traitor.
"I can't believe that traitors like him and others had the audacity to plot against us," I roar.
"Unfortunately, yes, brother. He's been communicating with some of his followers - people from the pack who support him," Logan answers.
"Don't tell me? The same ones who voted for our mate to be part of that horrible ritual?" I say sarcastically and everyone falls silent. Logan doesn't take the bait and continues.
"Unfortunately, yes, and they are not few. I asked Arthur to keep an eye on them. Oscar has been sending letters, trying to communicate with outsiders."
"We intercepted everything," the warrior says, and I look at the letters. Yeahp, unintelligible. I never imagined my uncle to be so clever, nor our pack to be so treacherous. This all stinks of the council. Dom is right.
"I say some time in the dungeons will do wonders for him. And maybe a few punches as well," I suggest.
"I have to admit, I'd like to see the old man really trapped, so the pack can see who he really is," Dominic confirms.
"Let's show him who's boss. I'll tell him myself; we need to instill fear. He doesn't expect it from us, he thinks we're just three fools who fall for his games," I growl maliciously.
"I agree. That's exactly what our uncle thinks. We need information from him, there are still some secrets to be solved," Logan says and it seems strange to me that he agrees with me. Maybe he's changed.
"Where are you taking me? What are you doing? I'm an Alpha! Let me go, don't touch me!" my uncle complains, struggling as the warriors hold him down.
"Hello, uncle," I say, approaching the man they are dragging, bound with wolfsbane chains. He bears the pain; I know he must suffer terribly, but he deserves it.
"The most outcast of outcasts. Why am I not surprised? Is this your idea? Have you lost your respect, boy?" he replies with contempt.
"Indeed, I am quite the outcast! So much so that I've been chosen to inform you that you've earned a vacation... to the dungeons," I say clearly, and he looks shocked.
"You wouldn't dare. This is a joke, right?" he says, looking at my brothers. I know he has a little hope in Logan. Let's see where my brother stands.
"It's true, uncle. You betrayed us, deceived us, and now you'll have to face the consequences. Those are the laws of the pack," Logan answers.
"No, this can't be real. You can't do this," he says, and I come closer.
"Oh, we can and we will," I call, grabbing one of the chains with gloved hands and dragging him into the dungeons myself. The man stumbles and falls, but I don't care; I continue to pull him with all my strength, while we are flanked by warriors, my brothers walking behind us.
"Let me go, you miserable brat! Filthy pig!" the old man howls, growing more frightened as we descend and reach the dungeon door. Oh yes, let him be as frightened as possible. Our dungeons are huge, and we had other prisoners, including Mafia, chained up like a dog. Another one who deserved a good beating.
"Is the presidential suite ready?" I ask a warrior.
"Yeah, right this way, Alpha," one of them says, showing me a dark, windowless, dank cell - truly depressing. It's perfect.
"This is a palace compared to what he deserves. But I think a few visits from us, including punches and kicks, will make him feel right at home," Ajax whispers.
"Boys, you're like my sons! Don't do this!" my uncle yells as another warrior takes Vera to a more distant room. She will have other conditions. She was a she-wolf, we couldn't hurt her. We should never hurt a woman, if we've learned anything, it's that.
"You brought this on yourself, uncle," Dominic says darkly, and I turn and punch my uncle in the face, knocking him backwards with a howl.
"Hit for hit. You'll never touch me again. You'll talk, old man, you'll sing like a bird. A few days in isolation will do you good," I growl, putting a gag in his mouth, and the man panics. It's as if he doesn't really believe that our intentions are serious.
If our plan works, we'll have answers soon. He is lost, he is nothing, he does not even have an heir. We are the alphas now, we will have a successor. Oscar writhes in madness, and Arthur takes charge of this particular section of the dungeons.
“I’ll be back... and believe me, you’ll beg not to see me,” I whisper when everyone has left.
