Chapter 7: She doesn't want us
Kurt
We had interrogated her, torn off her clothes, accused her of being a spy, and other terrible things.
But seems she was just a human who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Or maybe in the right place, because that's how we found her. Our mate.
We were bullies, stupid, maybe cocky alphas. But she had put us in our place, one little human against three alphas. We had been so convinced that our mate would quickly fall into our hands, and now... she had somehow rejected us.
She had tried to escape and rejected us.
She called us beasts and said she would kill us.
"She didn't mean it, she was upset... she feels the bond, she's just scared," my wolf, Ajax, told me.
"And what the hell did you expect? You found her in the hands of the enemy, injured, and the first thing you do is tear off her clothes and then interrogate her, leaving her without food and cold room," our uncle Oscar shouted, pounding his fists on the table.
Our father had died, and our uncle took his place while we came of age. Once we found our mates, we were supposed to take his place, or at least Logan, the eldest, would.
But since the three of us shared a mate, she would now be the Luna... with three alphas. This complicated things.
"She's a weak human! Our mother was a warrior! A true Luna! This human can't be what the goddess has chosen for us," Logan argued when we met in the Alpha's office.
Logan was a good brother but quite arrogant. He grew up thinking he would be the only Alpha and now... everything was falling apart.
Besides, he couldn't forget that this girl, this weak human as he called her, was the only one who had really hurt him.
That night in the forest, she attacked us... and we let her go. We couldn't hurt humans; they had left the territory, and the treaty had just been signed.
But... maybe we really didn't want to hurt her?
I don't believe his charade, I know his wolf wanted to be with our mate, begging to smell and touch her, just like Ajax.
"I really thought she would fall completely for the mate bond, that she would be obsessed with us! " Dominic yells.
He's the strategist, the intelligent one. But I saw him fall under her spell like a puppy days ago.
"We need to investigate, and stop causing trouble with the Night Wolves! Don't you think you have enough problems already?" our uncle asked.
"She's not a problem. We won't accept her," Logan affirm.
"If you don't accept her, your wolves will be weaker," Oscar said.
"And if we accept her... when she's attacked, which will be easy, and she dies, we'll fall with her," Dominic explained.
I didn't know what to say; I didn't accept her as a mate, but I didn't want to reject her either.
Madeleine was interesting... she had always seemed different to me. She was fierce for a human, and beautiful.
With each passing hour, she seemed more beautiful to me, I had smelled her hair, it was fantastic, like carnations.
"You're going to have to find a way to make this work" uncle said bluntly.
"Share her? No fucking way..." Logan said annoyed.
"Many women here have several mates. She is a young girl, apparently intelligent and pretty... stop complaining, brats,"
Suddenly, someone knocked on the door.
"The human still won't eat," an omega said, and our uncle sighed.
"Mate is suffering..." Ajax whispers.
Several days had passed... she refuse to eat, and I felt a pain in my chest just thinking about her suffering.
"Do you see what you've done? She's starving herself, she really prefers not to be with you, and it's your fault," uncle said.
Dominic sighed, exhausted, while Logan collapsed into a chair.
"What can we do? I don't want to be around her, but I don't want to..." Dom said, not finishing the sentence.
"Of all the women, did it really have to be her?" Logan said desperately.
"I'm going to talk to her," I affirm.
"No! I swore she wouldn't see us," my older brother protested.
"Then stop swearing in my name, jackass!" I growled.
"She will beg for us! Do as I say!" he shouted at me.
"She won't, damn it! You're only a few minutes older! Get used to sharing your power... Alpha," I said, and he almost jumped up to hit me, but Dom intervened.
"Enough! We don't need this" and I left, leaving Logan screaming.
We hadn't seen her since that day. I still hadn't gotten over her words, the hate in her eyes.
Sometimes I would find my brothers at the door of her room, not knowing what to do.
"Madeleine?" I asked, opening the door, and it was all dark. I turned on the light and saw her lying on the bed, staring into space.
"I brought dinner," I said, taking the untouched lunch tray from her. I felt a sharp pain in my stomach.
"You have to eat something..." I whispered, and when I approached her, she didn't even move.
She had dark circles, puffy eyes, she looked pale. She was so weak, she wasn't even fighting back.
"I was promised not to see you...and here you are bothering me," she whispered, clutching the blankets.
She was holding a watch... the one we broke when we found her in the forest. I felt like an idiot.
I sighed in pain. I didn't want any of this; I was supposed to be the funny guy, but now I had nothing witty to say.
"I just wanted to see how you were doing."
"As if you cared..."
I loved her little hands, her sad eyes. I liked her more and more. I wanted to lie next to her, hug her until she wasn't sad anymore, beg her for a chance.
"Everyone knows that wolves don't have a heart, that they don't care about humans," she said.
"That's a lie...of course I have a heart."
"Then let me go," and every time she mentioned being away from us, it drove me crazy.
"I can't do that," I growled.
"I want my family, my boyfriend. Not you," she whispered.
"You don't have a boyfriend...forget him!" I said through clenched teeth, now angry.
The thought of her thinking about anyone other than me or my brothers filled me with rage.
She turned her back on me. As I left the room, I leaned against the walls and tried to calm my heart. I felt such deep pain in my chest that it felt like it was eating me from the inside.
I saw Dominic out of the corner of my eye, and he sighed when he saw me.
"She hates us... she really hates us. We hurt her. She says she has a boyfriend... this is the worst case scenario."
That night, I stayed outside her room, Logan was at the hallway. We were like bees buzzing around the honey.
"Don't let her get into your mind, don't let her bewitch you. She has a plan, to destroy us, you'll see. Gerard is behind this. She didn't even explain who touched her," he said.
"We weren't good to her," I said, and he don't reply.
Maybe... I was already enchanted. I couldn't get away from her. Logan couldn't either, though he hid it. Dominic was talking to the doctor, begging her to talk to Maddie.
"She hates us... she'd rather die than be with us, and that's going to get us killed in the end," my wolf cried.
