Chapter 58: The Human Boyfriend

Kurt

"There's movement near the town; we scouted the area, and now we're heading to the house. I'm afraid they may have reached us."

"Are you sure, Dom?" This felt like a nightmare.

"Yes, Logan just confirmed it. Our warriors have picked up the scent of wolves," my brother answers.

"Night Wolves? In our house?" I ask through our mind link.

"That's the odd thing, it doesn't seem like them. There's a mixture of scents, and some of them could be rogues." Damn, these wolves were the worst of the worst. On top of fighting and mistrusting other packs, we had to deal with these savage and ungrateful wolves.

"Do you think they would dare enter the house where we are? This town has had its problems, but it seems that there have been too many wolf attacks since we set foot here. There's nothing interesting here, except us and, of course, our mate."

"Unfortunately, I think that's the case. I'm afraid Gerard has spread the word that we have a human mate, and maybe other wolves want to attack us"

"That doesn't make sense, he could have eliminated her in an instant," I say, growling, remembering those moments. Our mate was just recovering from all the abuse she had suffered in that attack, our worst enemy could have killed her; he had the opportunity and the time.

"I think he doesn't want to get his hands dirty. He's creating chaos, looking for allies against us," Dominic replied.

I panicked that everyone would be against us now. Moonvalley had always been an extremely powerful pack, and the fact that we, the triplets, were going to take the Alpha position made us even more unrivaled opponents.

"We must protect, we must..."

"Don't worry, Kurt. We won't let anything happen. Stay with Maddie, continue with the meeting in town and we'll take care of the rest. Even Logan is especially involved," he answered.

Logan had always been overly protective and seemed to have a special ability to see where the enemies were. I sighed and focused on the meeting I was in.

I had gathered with representatives of the town, trying to gain their favor. My mate was at my side, and on the other side was her mother. My brothers always said I was the fun one and didn't take anything seriously, but I knew I had easily won over the woman.

I had shown her my good intentions and proposed good incentives to protect the town. Frankly, Maddie's mother was strong and intelligent; she had been easy to deal with.

"We will make a request to the Council of wolves. Of course, Three Streams will have its independence and won't be involved in wolf matters, but for our world, we will ask for it as part of our responsibility; it will fall under our protection. In fact, we have already placed several guards in all of these areas," I say, standing up and pointing to all the spots on the map.

"What about the kidnappings?" an older woman asks, and everyone nods. My mate looks at me, knowing these are crucial issues for me.

"We will take justice into our own hands against those who try to harm anyone from this town, and of course extend it to all human areas. Under our laws, it's forbidden to harm humans and take them, unless one of them wants to join our packs," I say, looking at Maddie and seeing the moment she gently touched the scar on her hand, her mark of the ceremony where she accepted been part of Moonvalley. I had to make sure that if a human was a wolf's mate, he or she could choose to join the pack.

Before it would have seemed crazy, but now it was the most logical thing. Humans and wolves were meant to be together, to mix, and not for us to have power over them.

"Also, after some time, I have received an answer to a question that I know is very important to all of you: we will seek the recovery of your lands, the ones that should have always been yours, along with your homes and possessions. I know that none of this will make up for lost time and lost opportunities, but we are also fighting for some kind of economic compensation,' I say, and I see the surprise on everyone's faces. My mate smiles and lights up the place for me.

"That was very interesting to see. I hope the wolves aren't the type to make promises and not keep them," Maddie's mother says, and I take her hand.

"We have every intention of taking this to the highest level. And we're doing it for your daughter. I want you to know how important she is to us," I tell her, and I see her swallow hard.

"I hope so, young man... I don't really understand what's going on with all of you, but I just want my daughter to be safe and happy."

I let them talk for a while and prepare dinner. If there are wolves near our house, I guess I'll stay here with her for now. When I hear the door, I dare to open it and see that it's that damn man, a blond boy, a bit short and strong for a mere human. Kevin, I think I heard Maddie's mother say his name.

"A wolf here? Then it's true, this family is allied with the enemy," he says contemptuously.

"We're not the enemy; we're here to help," I reply.

"Sure, to help, if you were the ones who kidnapped Maddie!" he accuses angrily, and I close the door and confront him with all my size and strength.

"We rescued her from other wolves who wanted to take advantage of her. And where were you? According to Maddie, you ran off and left her and Robin to their fate," he gets angry.

"Keep your claws off her, Maddie is mine," he mutters annoyed.

"We're going to kill him!" Ajax screams in my head, and as much as I want to, I can't. At the same time, her words when she first came to the pack echo in my head, saying that she had a boyfriend. Him.

"Never! Get out of here, stupid boy," I reply, and Kevin approaches me defiantly. This man really doesn't think.

"She loves me, she has always loved me. You are just savages who have bewitched her. She will return to where she always belonged, with her own kind. A beast like you won't take her from me," he snorts and I growl. But just as I'm about to answer, we're interrupted.

"Enough!" I hear a voice behind me, and it's another man I recognize as her brother, Mark. I remember him from school; he was a smart guy... and he hated us with a passion.

"Mark..." says Kevin, but the other cuts him off.

"I want to talk to my sister. You better go, wolf. This is a family matter, and as far as I know, you're not part of it," Mark says, advancing and entering the house, closing the door with a bang. Kevin tries to provoke me, but eventually leaves, and I stay outside, trying to listen.

Maddie hadn't been able to talk to her brother, and I knew she wanted to, but I was sure it wouldn't be a good conversation.

And with all that, I never imagined what would happen.
