Chapter 21: Wake up
Kurt
I wake up after what feels like a long dream, like one of those naps where you wake up and don't know what time or even what day it is.
Strangely, I'm in my bed and my heart almost stops when I see Maddie lying next to me.
"What...?"
"Shhhh..."
Dominic tells me to be quiet, and with joy I watch my mate. She has her small hand on my chest and my brothers are also in the same bed.
"A mate can heal everything, right? The classic threesome, plus a human," I say through the mindlink and Dominic smiles.
"Of course," he's behind her and must be pressing his erection against our mate's delicious backside.
But I'm not complaining, I can see her face, and she's touching me, consciously or not, and that's more than okay with me.
"I think she dreamed about us," he tells me, and I can't stop smiling.
"How are you feeling?"
"Exhausted and now that I think about it, distraught over everything that happened," I answer.
Logan is still sleeping on the other side and he has some wounds as well. At least we're all okay, alive.
Maddie starts to move and when she wakes up she seems to be in shock, as if she suddenly realized that she slept with three werewolves in the same bed.
By all the heavens, just thinking that this could be possible, my body comes alive, and my wolf is undoubtedly already circling in my head, wagging its tail.
"Ohh... you're awake," she says.
"It was the most pleasant thing to wake up and have you here, I can even explain..." I say, taking her hand and she pulls it back carefully. She starts to move away and seems extremely embarrassed and uncomfortable.
"That's what mates do, Maddie...you don't have to be ashamed," I tell her, but she blushes all over.
When she sits down on the bed, I see that she's not wearing a bra and I bite my lip. This girl is going to be our undoing.
"I just have to go to the bathroom," she says, getting up as fast as she can to get away from us.
"We need to talk," Dominic says, and Logan is already up, grumpy.
Our mate finally comes out of the bathroom, and she mumbled something and runs out and goes to her room, and I already know that the twins must be watching over her.
"Alright... what's the situation?" I ask my brothers and they tell me everything.
And it was really bad.
"Our uncle is really upset, and we're in a difficult situation. On top of that, the ceremony is coming up where our pack to present newfound mates, and we're racing against time to get Maddie to accept us," Dominic says.
"If we accept her at all," Logan adds, and I growl.
"This is not the time for that, Logan. What more do you need to know? Our brother only got better because she was around, that bond is with the three of us, and you know it," I say.
"All the more reason we all have to agree... and I don't," he answers, and if he hadn't stayed behind and saved our hides, I would kill him right now.
"Let's give it some time, evaluate the situation," Dominic says, as always mediating.
With great effort I get up, bathe, put on something comfortable, and in no time I'm in the unpleasant part of what I have to do.
"Ready?" My brothers ask, and we enter our uncle's office and have to endure several of his yells and reproaches.
"The Council says they don't know anything, but it's true that some wolves are starting to try to have human mates. However... they've never heard of alphas, let alone triplets. For the safety of our pack, I have neither confirmed nor denied anything," our uncle said, seeming very distraught by all of this.
"I'm really sorry, Uncle..."
"You have to swear that you won't go after the night wolves or approach the humans again." he adds, angry.
"We won't unless they give us a reason to..." Dominic answers and my uncle slams the table.
"Enough, nephews! If you want to be the next Alphas, you need to behave, set an example, and show that you're up to the task," he says, and after some more shouting, he seems to have finally scolded us enough.
And to be honest, all I can think about is getting back to my mate.
"Tell me the truth, how are things with her?" I ask Dominic.
"We're getting closer... even Logan."
"Did you sleep with her?" I ask, almost snarling, but he denies it.
"I kissed her... it was an impulse I couldn't control," he says, and just the thought of kissing her makes my wolf restless.
"But she was with you all the time, holding your hand and talking to you. She has doubts, but she's not completely indifferent to us. My wolf is convinced that the bond is there."
"Really?"
"She cares for you, she took it very seriously and was worried, it was easy to see," he answers, and although I don't like the fact that they've made more progress with my mate, it's something.
When I get to the infirmary, I see her talking to the doctor and call her aside.
"I just wanted to say... thank you," I tell her and she's in shock.
I can see her dark eyes looking at me, studying my face and hair, her mouth slightly open, and now all I can think about is kissing her.
"They told me it would be good for you... for me to be with you," she looks so small next to me.
"And it has, I'm here thanks to you," I say and she still seems confused.
My brother is right, we still have a long way to go with her, but I'm sure we'll make it. Of course, we have to focus on Logan as well as on her. That stubborn fool.
"Maddie... I just want to tell you that..." I say, feeling my mouth dry.
I want to get so close to her and tell her what I felt when I saw her in that bed, but suddenly we are interrupted.
"Alpha!" Liam appears.
"What's going on?" I put my mate behind me, protecting her immediately, no matter what happens.
"There was an attack... in one of the human cities, Robin told me that's where her family... and Luna's... were " he explains.
I hear my mate's heart pounding and she shakes.
