Chapter 110: We won't think of anyone else

Dominic

"It can't be. We've been wandering through the forest for hours and haven't found anything!" my brother cries.

"We got into one mess to get out of another! We should have come sooner! Our poor mate. The only clue we had was that she was supposedly in the Black Forest, which was the last contact Lionel had with his brother," I say.

"It's like looking for a needle in a haystack," my brother exclaims again, on the verge of tears.

"I can't find her," I keep repeating to myself and my wolf. We should have been able to find her by her scent, but not only was the forest filled with other scents and massive, but the further we went, the more we couldn't find a single clue, not even a footprint.

"We've been through this place before, it doesn't make sense," my brother says with fear in his voice. We both know what he's thinking, what I'm thinking too, but I refuse to accept it: that maybe we're too late.

"Let's find the Night Wolves. I bet they have her, or at least they're involved in this," he growls, looking at me confused.

"Let's go to the Nigh Wolves, the southern area," I add, and he huffs again.

"Come on, let's end this once and for all. I won't be at peace until we have our mate in our arms, and we never let her go again," he whispers determinedly. He's clearly in better shape than I am, still suffering from the effects of the wolfsbane in my body, but I keep going, and after a while we find a blessed clue.

"There are signs of a fight," he points out.

"It seems to be Liam...here's his scent," I sigh. There are more footprints, and one of them belongs to a human woman, but it's not Maddie.

"Looks like Robin went looking for her," I mutter. This girl adored Maddie, and I'm so grateful that their friendship includes sacrifice. It terrifies me to think of how much they risked, but as we continue to follow the tracks, the scents mix and become more confusing.

"They've been here ...those wolves they've taken her, I'm sure!" my brother remarks as we venture into the heart of the forest, a place I've never been in all the times I've explored the Black Forest, and we see something that stands out, contrasting with the green of the forest.

"Is that a temple?" Kurt asks, lost. Amidst the undergrowth and trees, there was an ancient structure, unlike anything I had seen before.

"The abandoned temple..." I whisper. He motions for me to hide.

"Well, it's not so abandoned, look…" he whispers as we see a large group of wolves coming out of the place and many more waiting outside. There are too many wolves and I freeze as we watch, not knowing what to do. I'm almost sure it would be suicide to go in now.

"If our mate is down there..." my wolf pants. No, no, please no.

"We have to go," Kurt shakes as we hear the Night wolves talking about our mate.

"We don't know how that bitch escaped, but she took the pretty girl and the wild wolf," one of the warriors yells, pointing them in the other direction.

"Let's go!" Kurt yells and we follow them. They look for Maddie's trail, but we hide behind some rocks. The chaos is so overwhelming that they don't even realize we're here.

"We have to attack them before they find her; it's our best chance," my brother suggests. I nod and grab his shoulder.

"Kurt, when we find her... please let me talk to her first. I have to tell her about Irina. I know nothing happened, I mean, she and I didn't..." I stammer, but my brother looks at me seriously.

"You said it yourself, Dom: nothing happened. And even if it had, it was out of your control. You were trapped and Irina forced you. Nothing actually happened, so there's no need to stress Mate out anymore. She's been through too much already," he says, convinced, while I remain doubtful, but maybe he's right.

Suddenly we hear a terrible howl and the Night Wolves seem distracted. I signal my brother and we both turn into wolves. Ajax goes for the neck of one of the guards, cutting off his breath. I smash in with my hands, taking out several others before they even realize what's happening.

"There's a group up ahead!" I shout to my brother's wolf, and he rushes forward while I take care of those in our way, giving him time to reach them. The action brings us relief; after so long wondering what would become of Maddie, here we were, fighting for her, as it should be.

Suddenly, two huge beasts appear, so terrible as I've never seen before.

"Sweet goddess!" I yell.

"What the fuck ?" Kurt yells. That's where the howling comes from, and everyone panics at the sight of these beasts. I'm in shock for a moment, but I snap out of it when I see my mate on the ground next to Robin and a small wolf trying to defend them.

Maddie, our beautiful Maddie.

There are no words in any language to describe what I felt when I saw her again. My wolf immediately regained his strength and wanted to run to her, but I had something else to do first. I picked up a stick from the ground and began to attack the giant beasts with all my might.

"Come here, you nasty beast! Pick on someone your own size!" I yell as Ajax pounces on one of them. I don't know where they came from, but they are strong and vicious. The small wolf gains strength with our arrival, and while we take down one beast, my brother takes care of the other.

"Dominic! Kurt! My mates!" I hear Maddie's voice, full of emotion, she with Robin started attacking the other beast, helping my brother by throwing rocks and sticks. I drive a stick into one of the beast's eyes, blinding it, and continue until I pierce its brain. The beasts are dead on the ground, and Kurt was hugging Maddie as she cried.

"You came back for me..." Maddie whispered, relieved.

"There's nothing in this world that means more to us than you. We won't think of anyone else for the rest of our lives," I whispered to her.

"Alphas..." Robin said, still distraught. "Liam has distracted the enemy. We have to run; we're in danger, and he…" she announced. Just as we were about to leave, members of the Council appeared.

"The damn Dragons... we should have known. Here you are, interfering with the sacred rite," one of them muttered with a haughty expression. Horrified, I saw someone familiar appear behind them.

"Uncle..."
