Chapter 55: You are one of us
Dominic
If I had thought the humans were exaggerating when they complain about wolves, everything they said had annoyed me and seemed unfounded, I now believed they were absolutely right.
The Council and our uncle had been inflexible; they had thought that we wolves were superior, and therefore the experience and evidence that a human could provide was worthless, even if that human was our own mate and the future Luna of this pack.
"That was terrible," Kurt said as we left the office. Maddie looked terrified and I knew that this decision would not do her any good, especially since she now had to be close to the man who had caused her so much fear all this time.
"It could be worse; for a moment I was afraid the Council would say we shouldn't have a human mate," I confessed, and he snorted.
"What are we going to do? We need proof against Logan. I found him myself after he was kicked and beaten by the night wolves!"
"From my point of view, we have two options: play along and keep an eye on him, especially now that we are going to be very close, not leave our mate alone, and be alert to what our brother might do."
"And the other option?"
"Pray to the moon goddess that the bond works for him and that he finally falls at her feet as we already have," I finished, and Kurt snorted.
"If the bond finally reaches him... he still has to fight for her to accept him," my brother confirmed, and he was absolutely right.
Our uncle hadn't taken this lightly, because as soon as we returned to our rooms, we noticed that there was a lot of activity as the omegas moved our things into one of the main rooms, the one that had belonged to our parents.
"What the hell?" Logan's screams could already be heard, and after a while all of our things and hers had been moved into that room, right in the middle of the big bed.
"You idiots are going to get us all killed! Are you serious about that fucking trail? I'm your brother, damn it!" he confronted us now.
"A traitorous, disloyal, complete idiot brother," Kurt growled.
"You deserve this and more!" I shouted in the middle of the room.
"You don't understand that we're in serious trouble, and now we're coming out weaker than ever! I talked to Gerard, all he did was to show us how weak she is, and we fell for it like fools, and on top of that, the human escaped from our own pack right in front of us! He laughs!" Logan raged like a madman.
"She escaped because you tortured her, you bastard!"
"We knew you were tied to Gerard!" I yelled, and Kurt and I were about to start another big fight when we suddenly heard someone clear her throat and saw Dr. Karim at the door with Maddie in a wheelchair.
"Excuse me, Alphas, but I need confirmation that the patient will be in a quiet environment. I am only bringing her here because she needs close contact with you," the determined doctor said, and now we were silent like fools.
"Of course," I said, embarrassed, while Maddie watched with a little fear.
"Your things are here, mate. We promise to behave, right?" Kurt asked and Logan growled.
I carried her carefully, changed her into her pajamas and laid her on the bed. As I put her there, I prayed that she would fall asleep. Kurt positioned himself behind her on the bed while I was in front of her; Logan, like the spoiled brat he was, lay down on the couch in the big room as Kurt spoke to me in my mind.
"We need to see how this all works out, I think you're right, we have these two options, and we need to work on them."
"I think so too, brother, but we also have to focus on her. Gaining her trust won't be easy, but it's worth it," I told him, and he nodded.
"We also have to watch out for the Night Wolves. If what Logan says about Gerard is true, we're in big trouble," Kurt mentioned, and I sighed.
"I think I have an idea on how to gain Maddie's trust," I said, feeling her move closer to us and letting out a slight moan.
"Dominic...Kurt," she sighed and I stroked her hair.
"Yes, we would do anything for her," my brother said, caressing her arms.
When we got up in the morning and had the most awkward and silent breakfast in the world, I explained my idea, and of course I was met with direct opposition from Logan.
"What the hell are you talking about?"
"You heard me, brother, we're going to the human town. Maddie deserves to be with her family, and we need to know what's going on there. You keep saying you're not involved with Gerard and that the Alpha has intentions against our pack, and I think the key is in the human town," I explained while he looked at me as if I had lost my mind.
"Are we going to lower ourselves to live with humans?" he replied, and Kurt let out a terrible growl.
"We need to see the damage we've done, and our mate deserves it," I said, and she seemed both surprised and pleased, which was all I wanted.
"I'm not going to do it," Logan was refusing, of course.
"Well, it's your choice, brother. The Council was pretty clear you, they said you were innocent…but they also need to see your goodwill, and they themselves suggested that we spend some time just with our mate. In fact, they said it would be positive, so it's up to you," Kurt pointed out, and it was obvious that Logan knew he was between a rock and a hard place.
"Are we going to my town, really?" our mate asked excitedly.
"In whatever makes you feel better, of course. Besides, there's something the doctor mentioned that might speed up your recovery," I said.
And that same night, with the moon as our witness, Kurt and I performed a small ceremony with her while our uncle watched. Logan was far away, as if he didn't approve, but he couldn't stay away either, I knew we couldn't be away from her, it was becoming more painful.
"Welcome, Madeleine, to Moonvalley Pack. You will have our protection today and always," I said aloud as I cut the palm of my hand and hers. It also joined with my brother's, and our blood mixed.
"I feel different," she said happily.
"Our blood will help you recover, you are one of us. Of course, you can leave and reject us, but we would like you to give us a chance," I said, and my brother smiled.
Of course, it wasn't a complete union because we still needed the idiot Logan, but it was progress and for her I would do anything.
