Chapter 87:The great new alpha

Logan

"This wasn't what I was planning. None of this made any sense. I was supposed to just choose you as Luna, and my uncle would support my nomination! But I never agreed to this whole ritual thing! What's with the council interfering in the pack's affairs? They were supposed to support me, legitimize my claim, and what the hell is this about you being Luna for all three of us?" I shout angrily.

"Logan..."

"I don't understand any of this! This is a fucking mess!"

I had a well-established plan that didn't make me extremely happy, but I knew that certain sacrifices had to be made to achieve what we wanted, and one of them was to involve the Council - the same Council that had ruled against me a long time ago.

"Things have turned out better than we expected," Irina says.

"It seems we expected very different things, Irina."

In my mind, the pack would be thrilled that she was my Luna, and my brothers would take a back seat, leaving me with all the power. Ideally, the human would be out of the picture, perhaps returning to her town. She would no longer be my problem, because the moment I chose a Luna and marked Irina, she would be a thing of the past. I hate that, but it is what it is.

And as for my brothers, they could choose other mates, maybe even share one; it was their choice, as long as it wasn't her. The human weakened us, and I couldn't bear to see them happy with her.

"Of course not! The goal was always to protect and care for the pack and for you to become the Alpha, my Logan, and that's what we've achieved," she emphasizes.

All because of my thirst for power; I wanted to be the only Alpha and keep the human out of it. In theory, I've achieved that, but my brothers are imprisoned... and the human faces a danger I have no information about.

I felt anxious, worried, and even guilty. Most of all, I didn't want to hurt my brothers, whom I couldn't even see now, and I didn't know how they were. And my wolf wouldn't stop crying for the human, so much so that he hadn't even spoken to me since last night.

"Tell me, where the hell is she? What did they do to her?" I ask desperately.

"Of course I can't tell you, mainly because I don't know. That's a matter for the Council, and it's already in their hands. What we have to do now is convince your uncle to name you Alpha; that's the only thing that matters. There's no reason for him to hold on to the place your father left you," she says, walking over to me and placing her hands on my shoulders.

I had always found her to be an extremely attractive, imposing, striking woman, but after that night, when she convinced me to do all this, seduced me, and I responded to her practically under pressure... our situation had changed too much, and I feared it was irreversible.

"This is getting out of hand, Irina, and I have a feeling we're going to pay dearly for it. My wolf won't stop howling, convinced that something is very wrong," she smiles.

"Tell Morgan that I have everything under control. Come with me so you can see," she leans in to kiss me, taking my hand.

"Tell that stupid she-wolf not to call me by my name. You never should have told her my name," Morgan grumbles, really annoyed.

I had been so desperate to figure out how to get out of this situation that a new day had dawned, and the pack seemed to have changed completely.

"Oh, here comes our new Alpha and Luna," one of the warriors says, smiling and bowing. I was stunned.

"Luna Irina, yes, that sounds really good. And Alpha Logan is impressive," I hear another woman whisper to her mate as we passed by, and I couldn't help but feel important.

"There really is a bright future for Moonvalley."

"We just need an heir and everything will be fine. I'm sure the other brothers will support this," another say, and I got the feeling that the pack really agreed with all of this.

"Alpha, we need to talk about the next plans, strategies, agreements with other packs," one of the packhouse leaders suggested to me.

There was so much attention, and I felt vital, as I had always wanted to be, as I had always I should be. My father and uncle had prepared me for this. I, and I alone, would be the Alpha of our pack, one of the largest in the region.

In the distance I could see Rowan, the chief of the warriors, watching me closely. I knew that he was still very loyal to my uncle, and I wondered what would happen when I was named... if I was named.

"You see? The pack supports this change because that's what's supposed to happen. No one was going to support the alphas having a human Luna. At the very least, the situation could lead to an uprising, to discontent, and we can't afford that," she explains patiently as she walks with me, arm in arm, smiling and greeting the pack members like she was a beauty queen... or worse, like she owned the place.

I even saw wolves looking at me with envy. Truly, she was not only the most beautiful woman in the pack, but also strong and powerful.

"Everyone really seems to agree," I sigh.

"Because she turned them against you. We don't know what she's told the members of the pack to make them believe the lies she's already told them," my wolf growls, and although he sounded quite bitter, and I knew he hated me right now, I couldn't deny that he might be right.

I was ambitious and wanted to be the Alpha; everyone knew it. It wasn't something I hid from my brothers, but her... Irina had also wanted to be Luna for a long time, almost to the point where the consequences didn't matter, and the thought made me shiver. I didn't know if it was fear, because I had never been afraid, except when I thought about the human, wherever she might be...

"Now we have more important things to think about: forcing your uncle to give you your place, taking possession as soon as possible," she hints, and everything sounds too hasty.

"My uncle will cede power; that was the oath he made to my father."

"Your uncle, in case you haven't noticed, has his own plans. Besides, he's a weak Alpha who hasn't shown any consistency. Have you forgotten that he made the Council force you to accept the human, and then said it wasn't really necessary? You can't trust an Alpha like that," she explains, leaving me stunned.

"There's definitely something strange about him, but from that to forcing him to give up power..."

"We'll get there, you'll see," she confirms confidently and stood on her tiptoes to give me a big kiss. I felt a pain in my chest.

"This isn't right. Let her go!" my wolf kept saying. I also feel a pain that made it hard to breathe.

"You're too ambitious, Logan, but hurting your brothers, who didn't do anything wrong, and her, who gave us a chance... I'll never forgive you for that!" Morgan yells.

I didn't know what to do, and even though my pride was high and arrogance was starting to take over, I had to make a decision.
