Chapter 51: I found him
Dominic
"Now I'm really going to kill him! I swear I'll tear him to pieces!", my brother shouted as the twins told us what Robin had said.
The girl was frightened, and I didn't blame her. We had become desperate, tormented and violent alphas. When an Alpha's mate was hurt, he turned into a beast who only wanted revenge and to hurt those who had hurt his Luna.
And our beautiful Maddie was more than hurt.
"She has some fractures and a lot of bruises," the vet had told us, and my wolf howled in pain and despair.
"Why doesn't she wake up?" Kurt kept asking. We needed to know that she was ok, that she would talk to us and see us again. The feeling was terrible, that the Moon Goddess had given us a mate, and we had done everything to hurt her and didn't deserve her.
"Her body has gone into shock and needs time to recover. The good news is that since you are her mates, she needs you close. Her recovery will be like any human's, but you are two alphas, you may be able to help her even more," the doctor had said, and it was the only ray of hope. At least she had acknowledged that we were two, since Logan hadn't been seen for days.
"You know what I want to do too, but I can't," I told Kurt as I watched his skin vibrate, his wolf trying to take control.
"Robin said that Logan had threatened her and that was the reason she left us..."
"You know very well that there were more reasons, although I don't doubt that our older brother was mostly to blame," I said. My wolf, Damiano, kept saying how guilty we were for hurting her.
"I heard what happened. Is it true about Logan?" our uncle appeared, looking rather lost, I don't know where he was. Or maybe we were too busy trying to get our mate and avenge her.
"Everything seems to indicate that it is, Uncle. I have asked several warriors, but we still don't have any more information”
"I will insist with Rowan. Someone must have helped him," my uncle said.
"We've got to get Logan, make him pay for what he's done!" Kurt yells.
"Enough!" I shouted.
"Dominic, maybe your brother is right," our uncle said, and now we both fell silent.
"What do you mean?"
"Maybe there is something that can be done to make Logan take responsibility for his actions," he said, and I was stunned, but I didn't get a chance to answer or find out what could be done because the doctor called us.
"She's awake!"
She didn't need to elaborate as we ran into the infirmary. Maddie was panting and seemed to be in and out of consciousness.
"We're here, mate... we're here," I said, stroking her face and holding her hand. I could hear her mumbling, but she didn't say anything else, and I just couldn't let go of her.
"I'm so sorry, we should have paid attention to what was happening to you, but we were too selfish. We have been for a long time. You and your family have suffered, and we have done you so much harm," I whispered, and I heard her sigh.
Kurt disappeared while I stayed with her all night. It must have been the bond, but I knew exactly when she was finally awake.
"Maddie," I said as she looked around, and the moment her eyes landed on me, I could see her fear.
"It's all right, mate. You are well and you are safe. And those who hurt you will pay," I replied, seeing her tremble.
"I... I..."
"You need to calm down," the doctor appeared, and I saw her inject something into her. I didn't want her to go back to sleep, I had to talk to her, make her understand. The desperate look on her face told me that she definitely didn't trust us and maybe still feared us.
"I'm so sorry, mate, for everything we've done to you, and I know you wanted to run away, and it's all right, we understand," I told her, and her expression seemed to soften.
"Please rest... I will be here when you wake up for whatever you need," and she looked at me, sighing and slowly falling asleep.
I watched her for hours, fixing her clothes, her face, her hands. I desperately needed to hold her and know she was safe. And I was so focused on her that I almost jumped when my brother appeared, hours later.
"I've found him, Logan's already in the pack, our uncle's talking to him," Kurt whispered, his eyes on her.
"What are we going to do?"
"I talked to our uncle and suggested a trial."
"A trial?" I asked in shock.
"Yes, Logan will have to prove that he has not acted against our friend."
"Kurt, but..." I felt conflicted, our brother had done terrible things, but I heard my father's words in my head, insisting that we were one, we couldn't be separated. Hurting him was hurting us, although the very stupid Logan didn't understand that.
"I found him very close to the Night Wolves, Dominic. For some time I've been sure that there was someone in the pack who wanted to destroy us from within, and now I have no doubt that it's him. He gave her to Gerard!"
Suddenly I hear her move and when I look at her, she looks at us in horror.
"Logan..."
"We know, mate. We know he's been interfering with the bond with you, and we apologize for not noticing it before," Kurt said, kneeling down next to her.
"He wanted to separate me from you... he wanted me to break your hearts," she said, crying, and I went to hug her, and she didn't pull away. To feel her in my arms was a dream and I knew that no matter what happened I would give everything for her. I think maybe the doctor is right, our mate has suffered a lot, but I can feel her body improving second by second while we are with her.
"That bastard!"
"But he is an Alpha. One of us has to find another way," I said, knowing full well that the damage he has done to our mate is irreparable.
"Our uncle agrees, we have witnesses," Kurt replied, and I saw the worry in Maddie's eyes and I didn't know if it was because of something else or because deep down she was worried about our brother too.
"It starts tomorrow, be ready," Kurt said firmly, and I knew that once he made up his mind, it was hard to change it.
I felt that the pack was about to be dealt a heavy blow, and that either the Three Dragons would emerge stronger... or it would be our downfall.
