Chapter 178: Against the council
Maddie
"Logan's in danger!" I shouted without thinking. I spun on my heels and ran back to where we'd left the fight.
Kurt grabbed my hand, and together we ran towards the enemy. This time we weren't alone. We moved forward with the strength of our pack, with the power of all those who had answered my call. The moon guided us and at that moment I knew we would win. Logan needed me more than ever.
I could hear the footsteps of the humans behind me. Wolves running around me through the forest, leaping over fallen logs and streams. I had escaped through these woods once, and now I was returning. To my home, to my mates. I was no longer a frightened girl, I was Luna.
When we reached the clearing, chaos greeted us. Dominic was in the thick of it, fighting several of the Council with a ferocity. Other warriors from our pack were also fighting, but it was a chaotic mix of blows, growls and shouts.
"Mate!" Dominic and Logan said to me through the mind link, surprised to see me.
"Your aura, mate," Logan said in amazement. They weren't complaining about seeing me there, they were welcoming me, expecting me.
"My alphas," I replied, glad to see them well, injured but standing. They were struggling in the battle, but with our help we would soon finish off the enemy.
The humans joined the fight, shooting and attacking the councilmen who were trying to gain control of the situation. Mark handed me a weapon, and I fired wolfsbane bullets as well. It was our only chance of attacking, and I would use it as much as I could. Kurt took out one of the wolves with a single blow, nobody argue about my presence. We just fought, side by side, as equals.
The councilmen called in their warriors and protectors, but they weren't invincible. Dominic fought with brutal intensity, killing two of them, but there were many more. Chaos surrounded us, but we slowly began to contain the councilmen. The humans cry, and fought for their lives.
I saw Logan had Gerard down and was fighting the Council guards. Kurt was holding his uncle, Oscar; the councilmen were subdued or dead, and Lionel was holding one of them, the main one. More and more Alphas arrived - some supporting us, some siding with Gerard. Something told me that another trial was about to unfold here.
"Watch your words, this is our time" Dominic whispered into our heads.
The Alphas had a tense but undecided expression on their faces. It was clear that they didn't want to attack the Council directly. For many, it was a sacred institution, and to confront it was to question everything they believed in. And I step forward, my mates in awe.
"A Luna" the other alphas whispered.
"The men of the Council have deceived us! Their actions must be condemned," I demand, Kurt beside me and the humans behind me. One of the Alphas approached, his eyes fixed on me. They must have felt my aura, the change in my status. I was talking right now as a representation of Moonvalley, and the human towns.
"The Council has ruled for generations. We can't just... cut them." I knew this would happen. To many, the Council was untouchable. But I couldn't let that idea prevail. I felt the weight of every eye upon me. I wasn't a wolf, but I was their Luna, and it was time they heard the truth.
"The Council isn't here to protect us! They want power!" I said, my voice firm but full of emotion. "They have betrayed both wolves and humans. Not only did they do nothing to stop the war, but they sabotaged the Wolf Guardian Rite" My words echoed like thunder. The Alphas exchanged glances, but I could see doubt in their faces.
"Lies! Don't listen to this woman!" a Council member shouted as Lionel pinned him to the floor.
"And that's not all!" I continued, feeling the indignation burn inside me. "They've been creating mutant beasts, manipulating creatures to attack humans. If we don't stop them now, they won't stop until they've destroyed us all. We've said this before, and we have proof. It's not just the human world that's in danger, it's the wolf world too. We are one"
There was a murmur among the Alphas, some nodding, others still skeptical. But they could no longer ignore what was happening. One of the Alphas, the oldest of the group, stepped forward. He looked at me with calculating eyes.
"They plot against Moonvalley all this year! supporting Oscar and Gerard in their claim to take over the pack! That is against your laws, isn't it?" I declare. One of the Alphas, the oldest of the group, stepped forward. He looked at me with calculating eyes.
"If what you say is true, Luna Madeleine... then the Council must be investigated," the Alpha said. There was a murmur among the Alphas, some nodding, others still skeptical. But they could no longer ignore what was happening.
"And Oscar too. Our uncle has caused too much damage. If you don't believe us, then let there be a trial. Moonvalley demands it," Dominic said firmly. All eyes turned to Oscar, who had been watching from a distance. His expression was filled with rage, but his voice was cold as he replied.
"This is absurd!" he roared, approaching us. "I have nothing to do with this! Everything the humans say is a lie to distract from their own mistakes! We've done nothing! She and my nephews should be the ones to be judged!" Oscar shouted.
"Lies!"
"Judge him!" the other wolves shouted. The air was thick with tension, but before anyone could speak, a figure emerged from the depths of the forest. It was Rowan, the leader of the warriors, and beside him stood a terrified Vera.
"I have enough information to bring this man down," Rowan said in a low but powerful voice. "He cannot escape this."
