Chapter 32: Stealing information

Dominic

"Are you sure this is the place?" my brother asked me.

"The rumors are that the Night Wolves like to gather in places like this," I answered Kurt as we approached a seedy bar beyond human territory.

It seemed logical; it was in the middle of nowhere, and no one could accuse them of anything here. Soon we saw some werewolves drinking beer outside near their motorcycles.

"I think we're in the right place, because there's the bald guy," Kurt said to me.

"They call him Mafia."

"Mafia? What kind of nickname is that?" Kurt asked me.

"A terrible one. He's like the pack's executioner, you know, the one who has to do the dirty work and enjoys it," I replied and Kurt growled. "Do you know the plan?"

"Try to get the information without looking too desperate," he replied.

"And if we can get some information about their interests in our pack or if they know about our mate, even better. This may be the closest we get to them for a while. We have to seize the moment," I explained.

It was a pity that Logan wasn't here. I had my suspicions about him, but my brother was not only very strong, but also had a good sense for these things.

Maybe that's why he had gotten away from us; we hadn't suspected him until it was too late. Of course, I didn't want to think badly of him; he was still my brother.

"But look who we have here, the little wolves of Moonvalley..." said the big bald man.

"We're not little, nor do we have a lousy nickname like Mafia. What do you do? Smuggle treats for your puppy friends?" Kurt said, and now they all growled.

He had a good side; he was very brave, but that was also his bad side. He stood in front of all those wolves like he was the king, not caring about anything.

"You better run fast, little Alpha..." the bald guy said. I could smell the alcohol from here, and the others laughed, at least six wolves.

"What are two dragons doing loose? Where's the third? Do you spend your time having a threesome?" said another, and I heard more laughter.

"We're not here to make trouble," I said.

"Neither are we, but it's not a lie that you're a strange set of triplets. Maybe you three even sleep together," another wolf said, and they all laughed again.

These men were so stupid, I thought we could get information from them as easily as taking candy from a baby. I saw they had some stuff on their motorbikes. Definitely... they are up to something.

"Haven't you heard? Apparently the little alphas have a human mate, an ugly little thing," Mafia said, and everyone laughed. My brother and I growled.

"Ohhh! Looks like we hit a nerve. So it's true!" another wolf said. Damn it!

"You don't know a fuck, bastard," Kurt said angrily.

"What we do know is that we won't share the women. The Night Wolves will have as many women as we want," said one of the idiots, and the others began to whistle.

"We're not supposed to say that," another whispered, but was quickly silenced.

"Really? I don't think wolves like you can even have one, let alone please several," I said, and they growled.

"Well, nature rewards strong wolves," Mafia said.

Kurt approached and stood in front of him. My brother was quite tall, but even so, the bald guy was at least a head taller.

"You're just minions of your Alpha, who never shows his face," Kurt said. Mafia straightened his shoulders.

"You better watch what your mouth, little Alpha."

"I'll say what I want because I'm an Alpha, and you're nothing," Kurt said, and they began to fight.

They pushed and tried to knock each other down, while the rest of the Night Wolves yelled and cheered for Mafia. We were in neutral territory, so they couldn't transform, but that didn't mean the fight wasn't brutal.

"Damn you! I'll tear you to pieces," Mafia yelled when he saw that Kurt had bitten his arm and was bleeding. My brother had an evil smile full of blood.

"What can I say? My wolf wanted to know what it was like to bite garbage. We've never fought such a weak opponent before," he said, enraging Mafia even more.

The scuffle reached the motorcycles, which fell with a crash. The other wolves kept shouting, and some even started betting on who would win.

Meanwhile, distracted, I approached them. A package fell from one of the bikes and I saw a roll of paper.

Maps, this looks good, it's from the human territories. I grabbed it discreetly, and no one noticed. Maybe these men were planning to explore the human cities. Why were they so sure they wouldn't have to share mates?

When I turned around, my brother was still very excited about the fight, no doubt enjoying it. But we had been there long enough, and my wolf was begging me to return to our mate.

"Kurt, I think I have something, and we need to leave soon to avoid suspicion," I said, and he gave Mafia one last punch that sent him rolling to the ground, screaming. He was a big guy, but he still couldn't compare to an Alpha.

"Think twice before you mess with one of us, scum," Kurt yelled, and we quickly made our way back to the pack, while Mafia and the other keep yelling.

"I think that was a good plan. I got a little revenge on those idiots, and we got some information too," he said, but when we were a few miles away from the pack, I started to get a strange feeling.

"My wolf Damiano tells me there's something strange about our mate."

"Ajax tells me the same thing," he said, and we started to run faster.

"I'll go to our uncle so he doesn't suspect anything. We'll meet in her room," he said, running upstairs while I ran down the other hallway, frantic. But when I opened the door, I found her in the middle of a nightmare.

I could see her pained expression and a light sweat on her brow as she wriggled in bed, her pajamas clinging to her body. I leaned over her and cupped her face in my hands.

"Maddie... My love, what's wrong?" I asked her.

When I woke her up, she looked so relieved. I thought she would push me away or be afraid. But what she did surprised me: she came into my arms, and I held her happily and kissed her forehead. I listened to her rapid heartbeat and was full of fear for her.

"It was just a nightmare," I said. "Tell me what you need to make you feel better. I'll do anything," I promised, and she watched me for a while.

When I thought she was going to ask me to leave, she did something surprising and lifted herself up to kiss me.

I knew that maybe I should control myself, that I shouldn't be carried away by such passion, but at that moment I just couldn't hold back.
