Chapter 116: The Wolf's Keeper
Maddie
"A true Luna"
“She has survived the forest, and look, she has a wild wolf at her side!” I hear around me as I worry only that the little wolf is doing well.
“I thought you were hurt that they caught you, little one,” I say tearfully to the wolf as he licks my face and wipes away my tears.
I am completely taken aback. I’m not used to things going in my favor, especially not when it comes to justice, something that isn't very common in the human world, and I’ve seen that it’s no different in the wolf world. But here, it's what everyone believes that counts, and I have no doubt that the pack has my back. They believe in what my mates say, and especially in what Logan says. He has a special power.
It seems that in difficult situations, and especially when his brothers are in danger, the eldest brother comes to save the day. I am amazed that he speaks in my favor, and also that he says that I really did survive and emerge victorious from the ritual, especially considering what that means. That I'm the Luna... his Luna.
“I think it’s clear what happened, beyond any doubt. I hope the Council finds those responsible for the disruption of our Luna ritual and the danger that came with it,” Logan states firmly, and I see that they are not directly accusing the Council or saying that they are complicit. Although my mates, Robin and the betas know they are clearly involved, I am glad they are not going against me and my mates, and that the wolf is okay. The little one stays by my side, in my arms.
“And of course, it is clear that Madeleine is our true and destined mate, as well as the indisputable Luna of Moonvalley. Anyone who claims otherwise will face the full force of the Wolf Laws, which protect designated mates as the most sacred element of our world,” Dominic explains, playing with Logan, and his words fill me with emotion. Kurt stands protectively beside me, full of pride. The brothers exchange glances; they’re plotting something.
The council members seem to have been defeated at their own game. They are silent, some nod, and my mate takes the opportunity to finish them off.
“This establishes that we, the triplets, alphas and heirs of Moonvalley, have a single mate and are united by the laws of the wolves,” Dominic declares, looking at Logan, who nods unexpectedly. It seems their plans have fallen through, but he is determined to support his brothers... to accept me. Although I still can’t believe it, and I’m not sure if I ever will.
“Madeleine, the human, is the Luna of our pack,” Alpha Oscar explains with a wry smile, shamelessly, as if he hadn’t just trapped my mates a few hours ago and treated them like children. He even hit Kurt! But my mates aren’t playing around and take full advantage of the opportunity they have now. And Kurt speaks, finishing his uncle off.
“That’s right, Uncle, and since our mate is human, the human towns are also under the direct protection of Moonvalley and no one else. Any attack on them will be considered an attack on our pack itself, and they will have to face us.” Now the council members are pale, even the bald man they brought with them from the Night Wolves seems shaken by what he hears. They are helping us! They will help humans!
“But we will have to see, it’s not certain...” says an older man from the council.
“I think it’s absolutely fair. If the humans are attacked, that means they are attacking our mate. The humans are, in a sense, her pack according to our laws, aren’t they?” adds Dominic with a smile. Everything is going so well that I can’t believe it.
'Nephew, this is something we need to look into and...' Oscar says.
“And by the way, Uncle, I think that now that we are united and accept the same mate, we are in a direct position to take on the pack, which will undoubtedly accept Maddie,” Kurt adds, looking at his uncle viciously, and Oscar’s expression shows horror. We know what he said, his direct threats. He swore that he would emerge victorious, and things have turned into the opposite.
“But... but I can help you...” Oscar tries to explain.
“That is not necessary. All an Alpha needs is a Luna, and we are three Alphas, the three dragons, the most powerful Alphas. United we will be stronger than all the others,” Kurt replies, and I can feel the pride and excitement of the pack members, who are now applauding. I look around and see smiling faces. Irina suddenly seems to have disappeared. That woman, I’ll never forget what she did, nor the unusual interest she showed in my mates. Something has happened to them, and I will soon find out.
“By the way, Uncle, I think when you didn’t come to the forest to look for us, you had doubts about us and our mate. You mentioned that you wanted to retire, didn’t you? You said that maybe your mind was playing tricks on you. Furthermore, you even said we should take over as soon as possible...” Kurt adds, and that’s clearly a threat. We know what Oscar’s plan was and that it failed, but my mates won’t let this go. I’m speechless; the triplets have delivered blow after blow.
Oscar doesn’t see it so clearly, of course, but for the rest of the pack everything seems decided. I stay nearby with the wolf as people shake my hand, show me their support, and congratulate me on successfully completing such a powerful rite. Some even seem very sincere as they apologize for exposing me like this and for not believing that I really am the triplets' designated mate. I don’t know what to say, so I just go with the flow. Kurt and Dominic stand proudly beside me and talk to the pack members. Many are watching the wolf, who won’t leave my side.
“Well, gentlemen, I thank you for coming, but I believe your presence in our pack is no longer necessary,” Logan finally says to the council members, basically throwing them out, and I wonder what’s next. My mates hug me, and Logan looks at me from a distance.
Will he accept me?
Will I accept him?
Will my life in the pack finally begin?
What can I expect here?
But I can think about that later. For now, I’m safe, with my friend and mates, the humans have another chance at support, and we’ve won this battle. Maybe just for now, but I needed a well-deserved break. And I long to be close to my two alphas.
