Chapter 153: Reunions
Maddie
"Kurt! Look! Those are pack members!" I shout as a group of cars approaches. We stop, and I see familiar faces that make me feel excited. "Mum!" I cry.
"What happened?" Kurt asks as I reunite with my mum and Robin's family. She is with Lionel and several warriors who are bringing people back to the pack.
"There was an attack, it was a trap. But they were going to attack the humans anyway. We arrived just in time. We also found Arthur," the beta explains. We tell him what happened to the traitorous warrior and give him information about Kevin.
"My little one..." my mother says, stroking my face, looking terribly worried.
"Mum..." I whisper, hugging her. I've missed her so much.
"What happened at your house?" asks Robin. Apparently our house looked abandoned and there's no sign of my brother. No, no... Mark can't be involved in this, I can't believe it.
"Kevin has been harassing us and influencing your brother. He basically kept me hidden in the house, a prisoner in my own home. They said I was conspiring with the wolves, especially with you, the ones from Moonvalley. They told me to communicate with you, to manipulate you, to convinced you to work with Kevin. but I couldn't. I didn't want to put you in danger," she says, and I feel terribly guilty.
"You're safe now, you'll protect in the pack. You must leave immediately," Kurt instructs.
"Are you going back there? It's terrible!" says Robin's mother in despair.
"We must, my brother is in there. Lionel, I'm leaving you in charge," my mate says. "The rest of you, come with us!" Kurt orders as we call for more warriors. We approach the edge of the town, and we can already hear the terror.
"Dominic!" Kurt shouts, and I see with horror that Dominic is facing one of those hideous beasts. Goddess, these are even uglier than the ones we saw in the forest during the rite!
I pulled out my gun and started shooting. I also have a knife that Kurt gave me, and I'm ready to use it. Today I've been kidnapped, beaten and abused. Kevin tried to take advantage of me and humiliated me. They mistreated my mother and I won't let them do it again.
"Look out!" one of the warriors shouts as some rogues approach. I shoot, attacking without mercy as I position myself in front of the humans.
"Lead them to the pack!" Dominic shouts. He finishes off the beast and comes towards me. When he sees me, his face changes to one of horror. "What are you doing here, mate? Who did this to you?" he asks, touching my face.
"It's a long story, but we need to get out of here and make sure everyone is safe," I answer, and he nods. In no time my mates have a plan to isolate the humans, bring those who are willing back to the pack and protect the rest. They even send a message to other towns to be on the alert. Once again we had to flee because of the wolves.
"What is the point of all this? To terrorize them? Those wolves were supposed to be working with humans, if what Kevin said is true" I ask Kurt.
"I think it has to do with what Logan said. They want to bring fear so the Night Wolves and the Council can offer protection, and the humans will fall for it," he says.
"Maybe they've been doing it for a long time... maybe they've created this fear we've always had of the wolves... especially of you," I say, thinking of my past. "Mark, Kevin..."
"Whatever happened, I think we came just in time..." Kurt mentions as we hear explosions and more beasts appear.
"Mate!" Kurt yells for me to hide. The place is already a ghost town, there are hardly any humans left. Moonvalley was the first to arrive. The beasts attack, and my mates stand up to them. I see a family trying to get out of a house, but the door is stuck.
"Help!" they yell, and I run over.
"Come on, push!" I said as I tried to force the door open. Finally, it gave way and they came out with small children. This is terrible. The beasts are destroying homes, and I am protecting the family.
"Over there! Go with the wolves, trust me!" I say, pointing at the last cars.
"Mate!" Kurt cries in despair as I see a group of wolves approaching. They look like a rescue team, like they're here to save the day, but when they look at us, their faces are filled with rage. No, they're not here to help... they're the enemy.
"You...the Three Dragons," Gerard growls. Looking at him sends a shiver down my spine. Everything I've been through, all the disasters and suffering, is because of that stupid Alpha.
"You," he says, looking straight at me. I'm alone, away from the others, and now I'm sure. He's coming for me.
