Chapter 86: Alphas under control

Dominic

I felt like I couldn't breathe. I chased after the car for a long time, crying until I couldn't anymore. My legs gave out and I fell face first onto the pavement, crying for her.

Today was supposed to be the beginning of our life together. It wasn't the official ceremony, but it was close enough. The marking would follow, and everything else, but maybe we were too naive, innocent, and gullible. Today, not only our brother had betrayed us, but also the entire pack, our aunt and uncle, and even one of our warriors.

How could such a betrayal be forgiven?

"Snap out of it, Dominic. Stop acting like a loser, you're embarrassing the pack," my uncle said, and I don't understand him.

"What do you mean? You insisted that we take her as our mate, and you know that a wolf can't live without its mate."

"Well, if she was really your mate, none of this would have happened," he replied, leaving me in shock.

"You know Logan is ambitious; he's not thinking straight. His wolf must be going crazy, and there's something else, Uncle, the Council..."

"That's just a whim, boy. You have to forget about the human; we all know she won't survive, it's better not to have any hope," he replied, and it felt like a stab to my heart.

When we lost our parents, we assumed that our lives wouldn't be easy. Our parents loved us and supported us in everything, maybe they gave Logan too many chances and that's why he's like this. When we fell into the care of our aunt and uncle, I knew they weren't loving or considerate, but I never imagined this.

"It's not a caprice, she's ours," I growled, and he pushed me to the ground. I felt so weak.

"You better get a grip on yourself. Do you want to end up like Kurt?"

Kurt... all I knew was that he had been imprisoned after trying to attack one of the Council's men. I couldn't blame him; it was exactly what I wanted; everything that had happened was tragic.

"I'm watching you, Dominic," my uncle huffed.

"What do we know?" I asked the twins as soon as they approached me. They were on our side, their own mate crying for her friend.

"We don't know where they took her, but it can't be good, Alpha."

"Do you know where Kurt is?"

"In the dungeons, we don't have access." That was the last straw; we were the elite of the pack, and now we seemed like prisoners, like poor, powerless rats.

"We need to get to him first and figure out a strategy. Time is running out, and our Luna is in more and more danger, not only because of the rite, but also because the Council has something against her, I'm sure of it".

This was the thought that tormented me every moment. Maddie was strong, much more than she and everyone else believed, but it's one thing to face a few wolves and another to deal with a sinister plan of these men.

"We can talk to some of the guards and..."

"No, don't trust anyone. We have to keep this completely secret, and under no circumstances must it get to Logan's ears. That bastard will pay, but not now," I murmured.

"Perhaps you could approach Alpha Oscar."

"I think my uncle is somehow part of this," they looked shocked, but their expressions changed. I think they believed the same.

"Maybe Vera," the other twin said, and we both looked at him.

"I don't know what the Alpha is up to, but she seems distant from him, it's weird"

"That could be," I whispered, I went straight to her. But I heard her arguing with someone, the chief warrior, Rowan in my uncle´s office.

"This is getting out of hand; the council shouldn't have gotten involved," she said, frantically.

"That's what the Alpha said; the triplets are out of control..."

"I don't like this... the Council is supposed to help the wolves and..." she said, but he interrupted her. I couldn't see them, but it seemed like they were struggling, like he was physically holding her.

"The Alpha will know what to do... we need to set an example with the youngest," Rowan said. The youngest? Kurt? I didn't like this at all.

For goddess’s sake, I had an idea that our uncle was up to something, and I thought she was involved, but now that idea wasn't quite clear. But what does Rowan have to do with it?

Rowan went to the door and I quickly left the area. I heard some warriors pass by and mention Kurt's name, so I followed them without being seen. I saw the twins listening from a corner and signaling to me.

"We'll distract them, Alpha," they said, and I nodded. Much faster than I had expected, I had the best chance.

"Alpha, you can't be here," a guard said as the twins knocked him out. They worked so in sync that they were perfect.

We kept moving until we reached the dungeons. More guards appeared and the three of us took them out.

I was horrified to see Kurt in a cell like a dog. I started kicking the door until it finally opened, he was lying on the floor with no strength or will, and from the smell I knew immediately it was wolfsbane.

"Kurt, Kurt, brother," I said worriedly, patting his face gently, and he slowly began to respond.

"Dom... Mate..."

"I know, we have to go save her, but I need you to be in good shape. She needs us. "

"Our uncle is up to something. They drugged me, incapacitated me; they don't want us to find her. It's worse than we thought, Dom," he replied.

He had a lost look in his eyes and was pale; the distance from our mate was weakening him, and soon I would be too. It was only the need to save her that kept me standing.

"Alpha!" I heard the twins yell, as if warning me, but it was already too late.

"Run!" I shouted at them. I heard footsteps, and it was none other than...

"Irina."

"Dominic, you know you shouldn't be here."

"Stay out of this, Irina. You're going to lose. You shouldn't have interfered with our mate. You know we'll do anything for her."

"Yes, that's why I have to prevent you from doing something crazy," she replied, satisfied. And when I looked around, there were several guards, no doubt answering to her or my uncle, not to us.

"Take him away, lock him up and watch him closely," she shouted. I felt a prick in my neck and knew they had injected me with wolfsbane.

"Dominic..." my brother cried weakly as I was dragged away from him. I was losing my mind, thinking only of her and the danger she was in.

"Forgive me, my mate, forgive us."
