Chapter 183: Tradition repeats itself

Logan
"Take it easy, mate"
"But today's meeting is important," she replies.
"Nothing is more important than you, okay?" I reply, and she puts her hand on her round belly. Of course, after that intense session on our birthday, our mate ended up pregnant. We were absolutely ecstatic. The doctor warned that it could be a complicated pregnancy: twins, it was amazing news. Robin had handled her pregnancy well. But Madeleine was different.
"I know, but I'm the Luna; I have a duty," she kept insisting, and my brothers and I had to fight to keep her from overdoing it.
"Maybe so, but the Council came here to see you because they know how important you are and that you need rest. They won't die if they wait a little longer. Let me take care of you, my love."
"You have taken wonderful care of me," she replies. Since we learned of the risks of the pregnancy, I've devoted myself entirely to her. Dominic handled the pack's affairs, and Kurt took care of human and Alpha matters in general. I accompanied her in her duties.I swear, she had more responsibilities than an Alpha.
"The Council is waiting for you," Matt, who had become our head warrior, tells us. I looked at the council new members: mostly retired Alphas, but the most important one was an older Luna. It was a significant change.
"We know about your condition, Luna, and we're glad to know that you're in good health. We want to confirm that the last of the wolves who have gravely offended Moonvalley have been captured and sentenced. Thus, we end the persecution. I understand that the former leader of the warriors has already been sentenced.
"My brother Dominic killed him this morning," I say, and Madeleine shudders. The wolf world had changed a lot since Madeleine's arrival, but the punishments were still harsh. I had taken care of Gerard, Kurt killed Kevin, and my brother had the right to finish off Arthur, who had betrayed us.
"Good. Luna Madeleine, I understand you have a special request," the Luna said.
"Yes, I noticed that there is a dispute for the land that once belonged to my family and other humans. I want it returned to my parents and the other humans," she says, and the Council members look displeased.
"What you're asking for has no precedent. This land is crucial to the pack's geographic location. We also know that it contains valuable resources for our survival" one of them points out.
"This land originally belonged to the humans. We were driven out," Madeleine explains. I feel a lump in my throat; I still couldn't forget that we were the ones who drove them out.
"I understand, Luna. We've studied the documents you sent us... we know that the humans have suffered a lot, " the old Luna adds.
"We have done more than suffer. We were stripped of our lands, kidnapped - even I! Many were enslaved by the Night Wolves," Madeleine exclaims.
"It wasn't our fault, it was the actions of a mad Alpha."
"You all knew and did nothing," she replies, and they fall silent, knowing she's right.
"Many benefited from the Night Wolves' dealings, and we pardoned many Alphas who were on their side. The humans also fought with us, despite what we did to them," I add.
"And all we ever asked for was justice. This land is ours, and we want it back," she says firmly, and I couldn't be prouder.
"We'll think about it. It's never easy for a wolf to give up part of his territory," one of the council members says when I add something more.
"We will cede the annexed territory of the former Night Wolves to the Human Lands," and I hear sounds of surprise, even from Madeleine.
"Is that true, Logan?"
"Of course it is, we have all discussed it, and it is the right thing to do. This land is important and will serve all the packs. It will also protect the human settlements," I add.
"That's very generous!" Madeleine says, giving me a big kiss at the end of the meeting.
"It's only fair, they'll agree. But please, you must rest now," I insist, seeing her at ease.
"Arthur... I know he did wrong..."
"He endangered the entire pack, kidnapped you and betrayed me. Dominic did what he had to do; I assure you he didn't enjoy it. Any more than, we're happy to know that Irina has been banished and is now living in a human village where no Alpha can go near her."
"If only they had acted differently," she sighs.
"They had the chance, just like Rowan and Vera, who live in exile, but together and happy," I say. "What's wrong, mate?"
I ask, noticing her strange expression.
"I think my water broke," she says, and before she can finish, I'm rushing her to Dr. Karim.
"She's in labor," the doctor says seriously after examining Madeleine. "We're going to have to do a C-section" she says as I try to reach my brothers.
"But it was supposed to be a natural birth..."
"The situation has changed. It could be dangerous." I'd never felt such fear in my life, and though I prayed, they wouldn't let me in until I heard my mate's cries calling me. I demanded to enter the operating room.
"Everything is going well, Alpha. Just be patient," the doctor said as I held Madeleine's hand and stroked her forehead. My brothers should be here, they must be on their way. Then I hear a baby cry.
"It's a boy, Alpha," the doctor says, and I haven't quite taken it in yet when the next one arrives.
"He's beautiful, a wonderful boy," one of the nurses says excitedly, as a second baby appears. My mate is nervous but smiling. Suddenly the doctor has a strange look on his face and I panic.
"What's wrong? What's the problem?" I ask as the whole team gets excited, and I'm shocked to hear another baby cry.
"There's a third one we didn't see! Another Alpha! Triplets!" the doctor shouts and Madeleine and I cry with joy.
"You did so good, my love. You're amazing," Dominic says as he comes in, an hour later, with tears in his eyes, and looks at the second little one.
"They're all as beautiful as their fathers. My little dragons," she says, happy but exhausted. When the door to the room opens and Kurt appears agitated.
"Stupid Alpha duties... How I hate them! I can't believe I was on the other side of the world during the best moment of my life," he says,. My mate greets him with kisses and hugs. "My beautiful strong Luna"
"I'm pretty sure this little one must be yours, since he arrived late and caused trouble," I say as I hand him baby number three, and we all laugh.
"Thanks, mate... we're so happy," we say around her. Madeleine strokes the scar on my face, the scar on Dom's hand, and Kurt's lips.
"My alphas, my love," she answers. And I swear, it's the happiest day of my life.
