Chapter 41: Out of Moonvalley

Maddie

We were supposed to be looking for our backpack with the things Robin had stored.

I was supposed to see Logan first and confront him, but the alpha hadn't shown up yet to stop what was coming.

There was supposed to be a distraction so we could escape.

So many things were supposed to happen, but nothing went as planned.

Robin kept looking at me from a distance while I searched for our things. When Dominic surprised me, he seemed so excited that I didn't know what to do. He took me dancing and showed me the rooms of the Great Hall while many people watched and whispered.

All of this was as ideal as any girl's dream party, but my mind was elsewhere. When I saw Robin go to the bathroom, I realized this was my moment.

"Actually, I have to go to the bathroom," I said to Dominic. And there she was.

"Girl! This is getting out of hand!"

"Logan's nowhere to be found," I told her.

"Then we need to get our stuff and get out of here, okay? I'll tell the twins that I need to talk to you alone, that I need to convince you of our future here. I'll be waiting for you at that door when the time comes."

"And when is the time? I have two alphas watching me, not to mention Alpha Oscar and his wife Vera. I've also seen Dr. Karim in the distance."

"When the opportunity comes, take it! Promise?"

“Promise”

I was so nervous that I walked out shaking. To make matters worse, Dominic was waiting for me and pulled me into a hallway and kissed me. At that moment I thought it was the worst situation, but his lips relaxed me so much that when he touched me, I felt the tension melt away.

He whispered the most sensual words, his hands and fingers took me to paradise, until he took my hand and told me it was the moment. And I left, trembling, thinking that I wouldn't be able to fulfill my part of the bargain, that my girlfriend would have to wait, and then...

"She's not going anywhere," Logan growls suddenly, and I jumped.

"Damn, brother, are you really going to ruin our moment?" Dominic asked growling. Logan grabbed my wrist and pulled me towards him.

"Tell him the truth... tell him you don't love him, that you're going to betray him," he whispered, squeezing my wrist tightly.

"What are you doing? Let her go!" Dominic shouted, and I thought a fight was about to break out. Maybe it was my moment to escape, but how could I when they had me?

"Don't tell me you believed their stupid words. They just want to touch you, possess you, and then they will be more powerful. That's all they want from you," Logan whispered loudly to me, and my panic increased.

"Of course not!" Dominic shouted angrily. I couldn't even speak, my mouth was shaking.

"Fulfill our contract, destroy them," Logan said through clenched teeth, and Dominic looked at him in horror.

"What are you saying? What have you done to our mate?" Dominic yelled as he went after Logan, who let me go, and they fought in the middle of the small hallway. People were already crowding around, and soon Kurt joined them, running.

"Damn it, Logan!" he yelled, and it was obvious he knew the eldest brother was causing problems for the ceremony. I stepped aside, sticking to the wall, as I saw Alpha Oscar and several warriors appear. Some tried to separate the brothers, while the younger ones kept hitting Logan, who now had his teeth out.

Suddenly the lights went out for a few seconds, several had turned into wolves, and the fight was chaos. And I knew this was my moment. I slipped through the chaos in the hallway, feeling my way around the corner. I ran down the hall until I saw the door. There, a familiar hand took mine.

"Maddie!"

"Oh my God, Robin, that was awesome," I said, feeling like my heart was about to burst out of my chest.

"That was my plan B; we only have a little time before they notice," she said, and we ran. Really, everyone was at the party, and I am sure many of them were taking care of the mess the brothers left behind. We hid behind a wall as warriors patrolled by. But when we reached the cars, we noticed that they were guarded.

"Damn it!" Robin shouted.

"We have no other choice. Plan C: the forest," I said. But before we went there, I went to the other side of the house and carefully placed the necklace.

"This will distract them," I pointed out, and she nodded. It pained me to leave it; the truth is, I didn't want it to get lost. We ran together, quickly. We saw a path that seemed to lead somewhere, and I was afraid of getting lost in the middle of nowhere at midnight.

"Here, I have a flashlight," I pulled it out of my pocket. We quickly changed into our comfortable clothes, and when we came to a small stream, we threw our dresses in and leave our shoes here and there. Maybe that way we would lose our scent.

"According to what the twins told me, this is the path they took in their wolf form to visit the human city," Robin whispered. Just when I thought we were losing hope, we saw lights from the road.

"The road to Three Streams!" We couldn't believe it. We kept walking until we saw a car go by. I lifted my thumb, but it didn't work the first time, and I was surprised to see that it was a woman.

"Are you going into town?" Robin asked.

"Yes, girl. What are you doing here? Are you all right? Get in, it's cold!" she said, and as we got in the back, we couldn't believe our luck. We held hands and drove into town. We talked to her for a while; she was visiting some relatives and was going to town.

"Can you drop us off near the old factory?" I asked, pointing the way, and she dropped us off at the entrance.

We walked along the dirt road; I felt happy and at the same time... a huge void opened in my chest with every step I took. Something was missing, and no matter how much I didn't want to admit it, my heart said it was them: those three, my mates. The wolves who bullied me, who ruined my life. I was terribly bound to them.

"This way..." I said, entering the factory. It was lonely and partly abandoned. I turned on the flashlight anxiously, trying to see something or someone.

"Mark? Are you here?"

"Ladies..." but the voice that answered us wasn't his, and I felt a shiver run down my spine.
