Chapter 117: Agreements between brothers
Dominic
"That was really fantastic, unbelievable!" my brother exclaims excitedly, as if he had won the lottery, but it’s even better.
Our enemies attacked us, convinced they could defeat us, but in the end we're the ones who surprise them. We defeated them on their own game. The council members keep complaining, giving reasons why Maddie can't be Luna. They are insisting that what happened in the temple and the attacks during the rite need to be looked into. They don’t believe a pack would rise up against us to do something so cruel.
Some even continue to claim that the rite was tampered with and that we interfered. But the evidence is clear as day, the wolf is close to her, and the relationship between the two is very special. You can't imitate or manipulate something like that. Besides, our mate is safe and sound. On top of that, we have Mafia bound, and he is being taken to the dungeon. Those old wolves had to shut up and move their asses out of here.
"They thought they could take us down, and we kicked their asses!" Kurt shouts, hugging Maddie and jumping with her as the wolf runs after them both.
Of course, it won’t be that simple. We need to sort out several things, but the councilors needed to shut the fuck up and leave us alone, at least for now. The most important thing is that the pack is on our side and has fully recognized our precious Madeleine.
"Mate, we should get you checked out by the doctor. You have been out in the cold too long, you need to rest," I say, and my brother nods. Maddie is our priority. We also need to see how the pack is doing. Our betas are keeping an eye on our uncle, who in theory should be packing his shit from the office. Yeah... we will take over the pack as soon as we can. We have a bright future ahead of us, but I don’t want to leave anything to chance.
While the pack is still recovering from what happened and our mate is being examined, I meet Logan. He looks tired, exhausted even, and I know he's worked hard to get Liam and Mafia here. Thanks to him, our beta is now happily reunited with his mate and brother.
"You’ve been through a lot, and you have changed," I exclaim, and he nods. Of course, I love my brother, even though I’m closer to Kurt. All our doubts and separations have hurt me deeply. But Logan has returned, he has saved us, and that is true.
“I’ve thought a lot about what you said the last time we saw each other. I know I did wrong and that things could have gone terribly wrong. If you, Kurt and our betas had not acted, I would regret it even more than I already do,” he says with finality.
“Our father always said that a true Alpha realizes his mistakes,” I reply, and he sighs.
"I don’t know if I can be forgiven for my mistakes, but I’ll try. The pack comes first, and I never meant to put anyone in danger. I’m so sorry I didn’t believe you and didn’t fight to keep you all safe. I can’t believe you were trapped here, drugged and abused while I thought everyone was against me,” he laments. I really think he’s changed a lot, because the old Logan would never have admitted to something like that.
"Well, you are trying to make amends, and that’s what counts. Besides, you saved everyone. Liam is with his mate and brother because of you. We weren’t accused of betrayal, and Maddie will feel more comfortable from now on. And we have proof, that is all that matters," I’m dying to see this strange beast defeated here so we can investigate it further.
"I understand that it was my mistake to want to be the only alpha. Truly being triplets in our world, and in this position is a blessing we must not waste."
"We are the fingers behind a fist, together we are stronger," I repeat the phrase our father used to say.
"Together we are stronger,"
“That means we will rule together, but... what about Maddie? Will you accept her?” I ask, and he becomes uncomfortable.
“To be honest, brother, I don’t know. I’m not going to fool you, Morgan craves her. I lied, of course, the bond is real, but part of me still doesn’t agree. Besides...” he goes quiet. I finish his thought.
“Besides, she would have to accept you. And after everything that’s happened..." I say, and he sighs. Sometimes we are our own worst enemies. I refused to accept her once, and I deeply regret it.
“You need time, okay? We all need time to adjust to what is now and what is to come. The pack needs the best version of us, and Maddie also needs to familiarize herself with her position as Luna and everything that comes with it. We also have enemies to face. Even though we allied against the Council today, we know they’re after us, and sooner or later we’re going to have to take them on,” I explain.
The council members are bastards we should have killed immediately. But if we want to play our cards right, we’ll keep them quiet until we can act without consequences.
"We need to gather evidence and show it to the rest of the pack. If we attack them all at once, they’ll say we’re savage and cruel alphas who break all wolf laws," I explain.
" I have heard some shocking comments from them and our uncle. We need to keep an eye on them, and there’s a lot to investigate, Dominic,” he tells me, and we schedule a meeting for the next day. I don’t know what he has in mind, but I can’t wait to be with our mate. When I return to the infirmary, I find her sitting on the table. I remember the scene where I kissed her for the first time.
Being close to her again is an indescribable pleasure, like breathing when you have been underwater for too long.
“How is the patient?” I ask as my brother kisses her hand and looks at her admiringly.
"She has a few wounds that are already healing. She is also a little dehydrated and needs a good meal, but considering everything that has happened, I think our Luna is in better condition than expected,” says Dr. Karim. I feel a great sense of relief.
“Of course, we are very happy that she is back. I know everything has been very turbulent, Alphas, but many in the pack are with you, we have always been with you. I’m sorry that some have turned against you and spread lies,” explains the doctor. And I know exactly who she’s referring to.
“Thank you very much, doctor. Don’t worry, we’ll treat our Luna like a queen, as she deserves.”
We go to our room, and after we have bathed, settled in and prepared for sleep, we want to talk to her alone. I smell her scent and inhale with pleasure as my wolf finally settles down.
“I hope you can forgive us after everything that’s happened, mate. We shouldn’t have let them take you, we should have been stronger,” I say desperately.
We brought her here and she accepted it. Not only that, but we were supposed to protect her, but she was dragged away from us, living alone in the forest, caught, hurt, accused... and we… what did we do?
We broke our promises.
Maddie takes our hands, and I see that my brother is as terrified as I am.
