Chapter 150: Our part of the bargain

I try to break free of his grip, but Kevin hits me in the face and I fall to the ground, gasping for breath. I never thought he could be so violent. All the men in the town talked about hurting the wolves, about how they were beasts. And maybe... they had become exactly what they hated.
And I... I like Kevin! I loved him! The things he says are despicable! Who is he to judge me? Who is he to talk about me and my mates? Why was I important only if I could be of use to him? If he could take me, treat me like a toy and throw me away? He spoke of the wolves, of my mates... but they weren't like that. My mates loved me... like no one ever had. They would give anything for me.
"You're a bastard, Kevin! Thank heavens I got away from you! You're trash!" I thought the triplets were the bad ones, and this is what I wanted? To be with Kevin? He kissed me on my birthday. And not only did he think all those things about me... his plans were as perverse as those of our worst enemies.
"You got away? Those three perverts kidnapped you! They made you their slave!" he shouted. Then whispered in my ear, "But I'm wrong, aren't I? I've heard that the older of the triplets hates you, that he can't bear to look at you, that you disgust him. He thinks being with a human is the lowest a werewolf can sink to. He must see you for the worthless, ugly woman you are... The big alpha hasn't even touched you. And yet... you were there with him, taking care of him. You were ready for him, weren't you? If he asked, you'd willingly and eagerly get down on all fours for him to take you like the bitch you are! For him to fuck you like an animal" he shouts, slapping me again. I roll on the floor, panting.
"You don't know what you're saying! You're a monster!" I shout back, trying to hold on to the tree, looking for something to defend myself with. He's an ordinary man, not a wolf - he's supposed to be weaker. But he's still stronger than me. Think, Maddie, think.
"Of course I know! There are many rumors about what wolves do to women and how many are willing to do anything to mate with them. They all say they're very attractive, but the wolves treat them like objects. They reject them, just as the eldest of the triplets rejected you, and yet you're like a stupid in love with him. You're disgusting, Maddie!"
"You don't know anything, you don't understand anything about the mate bond," I reply angrily. He grabs me by the throat and presses me against the tree.
"The mate bond? That ridiculous fantasy everyone talks about! It's because of that stupid delusion that we have what the wolves want..."
"What the hell did you negotiate with them?" I ask, gasping, trying to get some information out of him. His dark eyes have a mad look in them.
"We promised to give them some of our women," he confesses. I'm stunned. Of all the things I could have imagined, this never crossed my mind.
"What are you saying?" He's completely out of his mind. What the fuck?
"As you know, wolves have a problem: they don't have enough women. So we plan to give them several, to keep them calm, with the idea that they'll have a woman for life. You don't know what these Night Wolves would do for a woman, for a stupid soul mate," he says mockingly. I can't believe it!
"I thought you said you were protecting humans? And now you're going to hand them over to some terrible wolves? Your friends, the women you've known all your life? It's the worst thing you could do! Women who trust you! And they are not property of anyone!" I shout.
"We'll give them the women nobody wants. And we'll turn others into our spies. Eventually we'll defeat them." I can't believe what I'm hearing.
"You are a monster! A disgrace to all humanity!" I say, hitting him with my head. I don't know if I hurt myself more than him, but at least I can see his nose is bleeding. He hits me again, throwing me to the ground, tears streaming down my face.
"Everyone here has a role to play for the greater good: a world without wolves. You should be helping us from the inside, destroying these beasts. Sadly, I realized a long time ago that you were too happy to spread your legs for these bastards instead of helping us! Instead of helping your family and your people. So we need to force you... to help us" he says. "We're going to use you so the Night Wolves can negotiate with your supposed mates. They're stupid enough to do anything for you, that much is clear. So you'll be very useful, Maddie."
"You're a motherfucker! An abomination!" I spit at him. He wipes his face and smiles.
"You've always been a fighter, and I liked that. What about... I'll have a piece of you? It would be a nice revenge on your mates, don't you think? They took our land, our home, and I'll have my fun with their dirty, ugly, stupid mate. I wonder if they'll still want you after I've touched you, ruin you. Come here so you know what it's like to be with a real man! A real man, not a beast,' he shouts maliciously and starts to grab my legs. I kick at him and start to struggle, when suddenly we hear a roar and I see a wolf pouncing on him. Kevin screams.
