Chapter 26: Three dates

Kurt

"Do you think she's okay?" My brother asked me when we got home.

The twins had already gone off with Robin to get lost in their room as usual, and Logan said he was going to talk to our uncle to calm things down, but for a while now it seemed to me that he was getting lost in strange encounters as well.

"It was horrible, man... the town was a mess and there were fires. It was clear to me that it was the Night Wolves; they wanted to make trouble for us, and they succeeded. Our mate was very stressed, and her family was very upset. Her brother was fighting with her" I see the sadness in Dominic's expression.

We had done this, we had brought her troubles. If she was having a hard time, it was our fault too.

"Logan seems really convinced that she'll give us a chance, and I think we have to take it, brother."

"I agree. I thought maybe she could get to know us better. What we've been doing is forcing ourselves on her, and then she pushes us away. We can't keep doing that," he explained.

"It's a very good point, maybe we could have little dates with each other."

"That's a great idea!" he said, looking excited. When we started to find Logan to tell him, I stopped him with my arm.

"There's something else... I think I saw our her supposed boyfriend," I said and heard him growl.

"Did he dare to show up?"

"Something like that, I'm not sure. The guy didn't speak, he's just an ordinary human with nothing to offer her."

"Well, we need to be on the alert, and we also need to monitor Gerard... How did he know to attack this town?"

"I don't know, but he's several steps ahead of us."

"Well, not anymore..." he said.

We'll start with three dates, one for each of us, and I was very happy when we agree that I'll have the first one.

In a short time, I had already prepared myself as best I could for a date that would be simple but memorable enough to get to know my mate.

It wasn't just that I wanted to know more about her, it was also important that she knew more about the pack. I had seen what her brother had told her, that she was no longer part of the family, and that she needed a home, and we could give it to her.

When I took her to an old pack gym, she seemed surprised and didn't understand what was happening. It was decorated with little lights, and there were vases of flowers everywhere you looked.

I tried to make it as similar as possible to the gym at school where she used to practice and do her routines.

By the goddess, I think I had never been so nervous in my life.

"Kurt... what is this?" she asked curiously.

I knew it was a miracle that she agreed to this date, it was more than we could ask of her. She didn't feel the mate bond, we had to woo her the old-fashioned way, like humans do.

"I thought it might be something you'd like...you were happy in a place like this in the town where we met," I said, though I knew the past wasn't particularly positive.

"Yes... I have happy memories of my gymnastics classes," she said.

She was wearing a long dress and had put her hair up in a bun. She looked spectacular, she took our date seriously. I didn't know what Logan had done to convince her, but I was very grateful!

We sat down for a moment, and we had a light and delicious meal from the pack house. I didn't know what she liked, I had so much to learn about her.

As we ate dessert, I did my best to get closer to her. I was content to hold her hand, but although she seemed open, she kept her distance.

Suddenly, with my phone, I played a soft music that came through the speakers and she immediately recognized it.

"That song..."

"It was the one you practiced to. You had a routine, you were dancing and doing some pretty risky moves," I said, and she looked at me in amazement.

"How do you remember that?"

"I... I admit that I was more attentive to you than I should have been. I loved watching you practice, you smiled and seemed happy," I said, my confession taking her by surprise.

"I felt happy. I didn't have many friends and there, in the gymnastics group, I felt appreciated. I never thought you would see me, you always stayed away and you and your brothers laughed at me," she said, and I felt a hole in my stomach.

"I'm sorry... I'm so sorry. I know it happened a long time ago, and that no matter how many times I say it, it won't change the past, but I'm really sorry. Wolves believe that the bond is formed much earlier; it's only when we come of age that our wolves recognize it. But it must have been the bond that drew me to you. I... sometimes I would sneak out of training to watch you, sitting on the bleachers above. I saw you choreographing and dancing at the end of practice. I always saw you, Maddie..." I said, reaching out to take her hand. She seemed touched.

"I never saw you...but now I think I would have liked to know that you were there."

"Would you notice me?"

"Of course I would," she admitted, smiling. Then the lights in the room dimmed a bit and soft music began to play.

"Would you dance with me?" I asked and she accepted. I pulled her close to me and to feel her close to me was like a dream.

"Did you keep practicing?" I asked and she made a sad face.

"After we escaped, the school was abandoned. I moved to another one, but it wasn't the same," she explained. She hadn't continued what made her happy because of me, because of us. I took her face, stroking her cheekbones with my thumbs.

She is so beautiful and perfect, how could I not have seen it before?

"If you would let me, I would give you the world..." I confessed.

Maybe it was too soon to say it, but it was the truth. She was looking into my eyes when suddenly silver balloons and confetti fell from the ceiling, there was a kind of smoke, and the whole place seemed to have turned into a silver dream.

She looked astonished and laughed.

"I would have loved to take you to the prom. I wouldn't have wanted to take anyone else but you," I confessed, leaning in to kiss her.
