Chapter 85: The Black Forest

Maddie

"Where are we going? Where are you taking me?" I kept asking, but no one answered. For a moment I thought that maybe they weren't taking me to some ritual or shit.

Maybe they were kidnapping me, it wouldn't be the first time. Maybe all this had to do with Gerard, or other wolves, Logan, Alpha Oscar... or who knows who! And here I was, locked up with them, without any explanation and at their mercy.

I panicked and stormed out, remembering Dominic's words, telling me that everything we'd learned about wolves was true, and one thing was clear: I couldn't trust them.

"Tell me where the hell we're going!"

"Shut up, human!"

"We don't answer to humans!" the guards shouted, and one of them turned to me and looked at me menacingly.

"You better calm down or you won't make it to any ritual alive, understand? Maybe we´ll kill here and now"

"You can't treat me like this..."

"Why? Because you're a Luna? The very pack you were supposed to join denied you entry," bitch! he said hatefully, and I fell silent.

I looked out of the windows, trying to see where we were going. But the only thing I could tell for sure was that we were going far, I had never been much farther than the city and these lands.

Sleep overcame me, but I couldn't afford to rest at this moment, and as we began to slow down, I saw with horror that a dark forest was rising into the night ahead of us.

"Get out now, human," they yell at me, and as the door opened, my eyes slowly adjusted to the dark. The forest that stretched out before me was huge, and of course I couldn't imagine how far it went.

"The Black Forest," I heard one of the men say, and I felt a shiver run down my spine. It was very cold, and I put my hands in the pockets of my jacket, grateful that my mate had given it to me. It was his, and it felt warm, with his scent on it.

The thought crossed my mind that I might never see him again, or Kurt, Robin, my mother and my brother, to whom I hadn't been able to say a proper goodbye or explain my situation. Not even the twins who had become my friends. Not even Logan, who seemed so ashamed that I was his mate, that he had done this to me.

"Move, human!" the men said, and there was no doubt in my mind that they were enjoying all of this, that I was nothing and no one to them, and that they felt it was the most just thing in the world to leave me here alone in this inhospitable place.

I clutched my backpack and hurried as they pushed me. They did it so hard that I fell hard in front of the Council members, who looked down at me as if I were an insect.

"The moon goddess makes mistakes because there's no other explanation for giving three alphas a weak human Luna. But the mistakes of the gods must be corrected by the right wolves, and the Moonvalley pack has a chance to redeem itself in front of everyone, and that's why we're here," one explained as I tried to stand up.

Some looked beyond the trees and smiled as if they saw something I couldn't. I was just a human and didn't have the superior vision or senses of the wolves.

"You won't survive, human," one of the guards said with satisfaction. They hated me, hated me just for being human, and I hadn't done anything wrong to them.

"The ritual is simple, human, you must simply survive. The goal is to prove that you can survive and help your pack. Relatively easy for any werewolf, but a human... we'll see".

"How long will I be here? Will you come with me?" I asked, and I don't know if it's good to be with them. Some growled at my question.

"You'll be here for six days and five nights, but tomorrow we'll come to see what's left of you," one replied. This is supposed to be a challenge, but they already know I won't make it.

"What is the point of all this? What have you got against the pack and me?" I asked; I have nothing to lose. I'm at a total disadvantage and maybe I'll get some information.

"The wolf world is in danger. We must preserve the old ways, and Moonvalley is challenging everything we've always been," one said.

"Three alphas... would be too powerful if they were to lead the pack."

"Unbeatable," noted another.

“We should take care of the women, that´s all that matter. Maybe human women is the solution, and Moonvalley are messing with humans”

That means the goal is to get rid of them no matter what; they've had their eyes on them from the beginning, and the fact that I'm their mate was just something convenient for them. And with such bad luck, I fell right in the middle of it! Ant the humans, the town…we are doomed.

"Now take her to the depths of the forest," one of the men said, and before I could resist, they blindfolded me and dragged me away.

"No, please, let me go!" I screamed, struggling, but there was no way. They were moving so fast that I stumbled and at one point they were carrying me and I felt them throw me to the ground. When I remove the blindfold, I am undoubtedly in the middle of the forest, surrounded by trees and darkness.

"This is your end, human. We never thought it would be so easy," one of the warriors said, laughing.

"The triplets are finished! These two were foolish enough to mate with you. No wolf survives that."

"And the other will suffer too! The other packs were right; there's nothing easier than the enemy having a human mate, it's a guaranteed death," another remarked.

"Don't leave me here alone, please. You have to help me," I begged, knowing it wouldn't do any good. They were determined to follow their orders, and if possible, they would enjoy it.

"We wouldn't help a human if our lives depended on it."

"Don't worry, tonight you will be someone's dinner."

They turned into terrifying wolves and left me there. It began to rain, and I moved around looking for something to protect myself. As if my situation couldn't get any worse, there was lightning and thunder.

Hiding in some bushes, I just wanted to sit down and cry, lamenting my situation, but that wouldn't solve anything.

Then I heard a sound that made my skin crawl.
