Chapter 151
Jose, Nicholas, Catherine, Giovanni, and Sharene all stood around me as I sobbed over the caskets and kissed them again. Though I knew I could hold them in my dream state at any time it was still hard that I could not share them. "I—I’m good..." I said finally after long mins of sobbing uncontrollably. I stayed inside with the babies while everyone else sat down in the chairs as the reverend did his prayers sending to the twin’s spirits as he finally set them free. He made comments about being in cages which irritated me, but I graciously held back for my parent’s sake. The fact that my little babies were now next to their uncle’s empty vessel of a body. I kept my eyes on them as I could see them lying in a different state then when they were in the tanks at the facility. “Mommy loves you both and this is a much better place and don’t have to look like lab rats from nana and papa’s point of view” I whispered quietly. The reverend finally finished, and he blessed the rest of the family before coming in. I was happy to see Jaclyn along with Jocelynn who was very respectful and did not say anything just paid her respect. “Not sure if your mother told you but we are having the little luncheon at the restaurant, and I have the whole back banquet area already set up. So, I’m going to head there now, and I’ll see you all there” Jaclyn said kissing both my cheeks before leaving.
After a good 25 mins it was just family left which was just my parents, grandparents, Bruce, Savannah and I, until a car pulled up a few mins later. 2 people got out and started approaching. “OMG is that aunt, Brea….? You told her…. Ugh whatever today is not the day for me to lose it or any day for that matter” I gasped out sitting next to the girls again and just wanting to be left alone. My mother met Brea outside the Mausoleum so she and her friend could be blessed before entering. It didn’t take long and she saw me and gasped as she saw that the caskets were not just any type of casket. “Hey sweet heart… it has been a long time, sorry it’s under these circumstances. Grand-dad, sends his love and this letter for you and a little something for the girls if it’s ok. The reverend already blessed them so it’s up to you if you want to hang them in here or whatever you want” Brea said as she handed me a little placard like things with the girls, names on it. Brea sat the placards where my mother thought they would look good at, above the girl’s heads on the mantel along with my brothers.
My grandfather was a crafts man and could make anything if you just gave him a rough draft of what you wanted. He made his money in the markets and building high priced houses, company buildings, and other fine things when working with the military. After a good 20 mins everyone was now ready to head to grab something to eat. I was seriously so emotionally drained and was not sure if I could take anything else. “I would love to just go home and relax instead of eating, but I know it’s not going to happen. So, lets’ get out of here, so we don’t keep everyone waiting” I muttered as I followed everyone out and closed and locked the mausoleum up. I placed my hand on the door and sent a little prayer up and kissed the air promising to be with them soon. I got inside the limo alone not wanting anyone to ride with me and thankful they all agreed as the driver was not mine to boss around and had my father’s instructions. I laid down in the back and was fast asleep all the way to the restaurant that was 45 mins away.
The only reason I even woke up was because the side door opened, and I was lying across the longer bench that held me better. “Hey sweetheart…it’s just me your daddy… We’re here and I know today is really hard. You have a lot of people out here that love you and just want to spend the day with you. I know you don’t want anyone asking you questions about the girls, and they promised they wouldn’t” he whispered as he touched my leg and caressed it softly. I finally sat up and he sat next to me for a few minutes, and I broke down and laid my head in his lap. “I’m…. so heartbroken…not for just losing my girls but also because Maxwell didn’t show up to do this with me. The final nail in the coffin was Sharene and I just can’t do it…” I said before I started sobbing again. My father dialed a number into his phone to ask everyone to go ahead and start without us and to make sure my mother was ok since he had left her inside.
25 mins later I was feeling even more drained as I was all cried out and I was left open and raw more than I had ever been in my life. Except maybe when I was little, and Ethan first died. “I’m ready to go now if you are…. Just get me in there and sit me down because I really don’t think I can stand and be social. I’m not super hungry but will snack on a little something” I whispered as my father slowly moved towards the door. “I got you baby girl and not to worry daddy is here and will do whatever you want” he said kissing my forehead once we got out and were standing. I entered the restaurant, and everyone gave me my space but made sure to make their hugs quick it was good for me and them too and was taken to the table. I was happy to see bottles of wine, hard liquor, and ingredients to go along with the stiff drinks. Then even happier when my best friends where at the table with rounds of shots to go around. “Yes please…” I said when they raised one up and Jose handed me one. We were all shooting back shots of my good friend Jack and having cups of coke to go along with it.
After the 3rd round of shots there was food at my side along with Sharene holding a little baby in her arms. “Mia, I’d like you to meet my baby girl Madeline….” she said softly. I slowly turned as everyone around us had stepped away giving us our own space. I was not buzzed or even drunk just felt relaxed and calm. “Well…. look at you sweet pea… look just like your mama..” I said looking down at her and touching her little hand. Sharene smiled and held her closer to me almost in a sign of “You want to hold her” and my eyes shot open. I was now looking up into her eyes. “No…. please I really can’t way to soon trust me…” “I do trust you and that’s why I want you to just cradle your arms and hold her. She’s very easy and little it’ll be simple I promise” she said as she slowly got up and laid Madeline in my arms. I did not look anywhere but at the little baby who laid in my arms. She was so beautiful and little it made my heart break again. “Ok now what… this is super hard for me to do..” I thought to myself and there was nothing from the other side but felt them near and silently cheering me on. I saw flashes of light and knew that the crowd around me were taking pictures. It had been forever since I would even consider holding a baby or be around a child that small.
Madeline opened her eyes and looked at me and around me and must have saw my family who had passed too. Who were bright and all around us watching and cheering us on in silence. Madeline started to fuss, and my nerves stirred up once more making Sharene take her since she was now suckling on her fingers. “I do believe that she’s hungry and I’m not up for that task so if you could please” I begged. Sharene took pity on me and took her disappearing for a brief minute. Only to grab a bottle from the kitchen that was already sitting out for a little while to get to room temp. “Mind if we sit here while I feed her with a bottle not breast’s I promise” she said sitting right next to me along with my friends on the other side of me again. “How long are you guys in for? And how if you don’t mind me asking since it’s only been a couple of weeks since you’ve been gone…” “If we told you that we’d have to kill you” Nicholas said with a serious tone until I looked up at him with a sideways look. “(Ha-ha) So not funny stupid… anyways I love that you are both here and it was a hard day for me. I’m glad to just have my besties with me” I whispered.
