Book 2: In The Life of Mia: College: Chapter 21
My father put out his hand when I got up and when I gave him my hand, he touched it with a smile and took it gently in his. "Not what I was asking for but while I have you..." he half smiles pulling me towards him, and I am tugged right into his lap as he sat back and relaxed more. "That's my girl, now tell me what the notes are on my desk that are looking very professional... as for passing you off to another lawyer that won't be necessary just leave the notes there and I'll take a look at them later. I already have a feeling I know what the lunch is about and who it is with, I also hope you plan to have Bailey and Lola close since I don't want anything happening. I would not tell your mother until after you get back since she's already on edge with you leaving soon and I wish you'd stay until you have to leave for the flight, but either way we will see you off so just let me know ok" he inhales followed by a soft kiss on my cheek. I wrapped my arms around him and loving the smell of his aftershave taking me back to a time when I was little and Ethan and I had gotten into his stash dumping it all over the place. "Ethan says he wishes you'd change your aftershave since it's like an old man smell now...." I snuggled deeper into him with a little laugh as Ethan was laughing too.
My father squeezed me a little and started to cry. "He remembers the smell, does he? Well it's a favorite of mine and I won't ever stop using it but will keep my options open. Do the two of you have one you recommend" he asks as he looked down at me. Ethan was thinking about it but didn't tell me which one it was, "We'll make a stop at the mall and pick him up something that would be perfect for his personality and natural smell" Ethan tells me softly. "Ethan won't give me the name but apparently we will be doing a little shopping today so you might have a gift when I get back" I whispered kissing his cheek before getting up. We walked out with my father holding me close to his side and stopping at the elevator door to let me go and get ready for the day since I was still very much in my robe and my hair in a messy ball on my head. I did my best to hurry dressing down in tight jeans and a tank top and a jean jacket that was not much but to arm holes and material that only covered my breasts. "Damn you sure take after my mother since your mother and I don't have tata's like that" my grandmother Mia could not keep herself from laughing. "I know I hate it... I am all muscle and then I have these damned things that are pretty much muscle but make me look a little funny. Maybe I should think about a reduction or something" I joked. I was bent over blow drying my hair and straightening it all out perfectly before doing a nice hard ass braid that kept my shit real tight and together. "Yep I am not sure who I get that from either with the ability to do this without looking and just can look at a picture and it just happens... ha-ha than again I'm learning a lot of new things the past few months, weeks and days... anyways I better get finished up and back out" I start putting up a little barrier between myself and the other side.
Finishing up I put on a little lip gloss, eye liner, mascara and made sure everything was prim and proper before heading out to greet everyone and before heading out for my lunch date. Sharene and her family seemed to be getting along with my family so great which made me happy and to still see my mothers’ sister, step father and mother there really made me feel good too and hoped that the two of them could be close again. I watched from a distance taking it all in and almost feeling like I was dreaming since I had not seen my family so close before even though I had, had Maxwell's family close at one time with mine but it was never this open and free looking. Madeline had been in my father's arms and propped up on his shoulder looking in my direction and I could tell she saw me as she started moving about and slapping at my father's back with her little hand. It had touched me so much that a tear ran down my face. "Oh yea this is going to be hard every time I come home and then have to leave them all..... ugh" I muttered before finally making my presence known. I stopped in the kitchen where Bailey and Lola where hanging out and taking care of whatever business had come up. "Hey everything alright? I'm sure you got a notice that we will be having lunch with you know who which my father knows but mother nor Sharene do so shhh" putting my fingers to my lips.
Bailey looked to be worried but I shook my head and looked as calm as a cucumber which put him a little more at ease, but Lola was busy reading something which she finally looked up at me before handing me over the tablet in her hand. "I'm sorry honey...." she sighed as she passed me the tablet and I saw that there had been an accident involving a bike and car in Oxford near the college. "OMG.... please tell me this is a joke?" I squealed out as I saw the name of my classmate and study buddy Violina. "This young girl had so much to live for and a bright future ahead of her. It's to be believed that this was not an accident but at this time we are unable to surly, say. Our investigating team is on it and we are doing what we can to make sure that all her friends have the support they need to get through this and have support teams in place for the students. The school is making sure that they have everything we need to do our job and giving us permission to interview everyone and anyone who might know more about this." The paper did not have much more to say but that it was a horrible scene and that if anyone knew anything to call the authorities right away.
My head was spinning as I was trying to think about everything she had ever told me since we had been study partners from the very beginning and we were drawn to one another, but had still yet to uncover the reasoning behind it all. I was in complete shock as the news of Violina hit me like a ton of bricks. "I really just don't know.... I need to at least call Logan and check on everyone" I could not think of anything else at the moment as I grabbed my cell from my back pocket and heading down the hall before anyone could disengage from what they were doing. Madeline started to freak out when she saw me leaving and felt bad "Mia calm down and just take one step at a time" my grandfather Artemis said. "Can I go back a few hours and change it from happening or at least...." "NO....." echos rang out in my head causing me such pain that I dropped my phone on the hallway floor. "FUCK!" I screamed out and all hell broke loose when my father came running down the hall minus a baby in his arms. "MIA....." he yelled out just as I had picked up my phone from the floor and finding that it was fine minus the protection glass being fractured. "Whoa.... relax I'm fine..." I put my hands up as he came running so fast and picking me up carrying me into the room.
After my father closed us inside the room I wasn't sure why he felt the need to hold me in his arms while he sat on the bench at the end of the bed. "What's wrong and don't lie because that cry was one that tells me you are in pain" he whispered sounding like he was about to cry. "Umm daddy calm down I am fine it’s just my head it is killing me again. I really need to make a call if you can let me go please......" "Make the call but I'm not letting you go..." "Ethan... what is happening... I Went upstairs for a brief moment and then Savi and Sebastian came up telling me to come down" my mother sounded panicked as she found the two of us and even more shocked that my father was holding me. "Oh my.... Umm mother it's a headache and I really am fine if you could please take your husband out so I can make this call quickly!" I could hardly move in his grasp as I was trying to pull away. My mother looked at me and crawled inside my head for a moment "you sure you're ok....oh fuck..." she said pulling out and looking at my father. "Come let's go.... she'll be fine.. Mia listen to them.... it is not wise to even think those thoughts... I expect an explanation” my mother had my father by the arm and tugging him. "Bailey and Lola have the tablet ask them to show you both and please I'll be out in a min just keep everyone out of here until I'm finished" I groaned hearing footsteps.
