Book 2: In the Life of Mia: College Chapter 60
Bailey’s eyes shot up as I finally came out from the closet grabbing my bag for school and turning everything off before we left the room. “I like, but are you going to just leave it like that pulled back into a ponytail? Not that it looks bad just not used to seeing you with hair so well it’s still long but not to the floor long ha-ha” he laughed as he, side hugged me as he usually did. “Ummm about Leona is she like sick or like emotional sick… only because she was fine yesterday and I really don’t know like you know personal, personal stuff about her since when I’ve tried asking she just changes the subject” I asked wanting to know. He just shrugged and walked us downstairs to the kitchen where I had a full breakfast laid out for me and did not have a choice much since I hated wasting food. “Enjoy and while you do, I’ll find out what I can” Bailey took his coffee as I took a seat with Paxton, Lexi, and Lola who were just about through with their breakfast. “Morning all…. I know I look different and if you can’t tell its….” “You actually did it, never thought I’d see the day….” “I know right Lola, that thing was already touching the ground with its tips when she left it down for a few. I’m surprised you don’t have a broken neck or that it’s not flopping around” Lexi joked. Rocco was still stunned as he came around and checked me out completely making me stand and twirl for him making us all laugh when he whistled. “Looks to me like you are on the prowl now and looking to get into a little trouble” he joked and in walked Bailey looking a little confused.
Bailey waited until Rocco was finished being a little too friendly for his liking and finally pulled me to the side “Hey…. I couldn’t get into see Leona and she’s coughing a lot and from what it sounds like she’s really sick” he frowned looking at me. “Well shit does she have a doctor coming to check her out or should I look one up or call my mother and see what I should do? I remember her telling me something about a medicine woman of some sort… I don’t like this one, bit Bailey… I hate when people are sick and it makes my O.C.D 10xs worse… alright just never mind I’m going to eat and then I’m going to check on her myself and don’t care what her staff does to me” I was now in a headspace I hated and sitting back down prayed I wouldn’t have to get physical with her staff. Bailey groaned knowing he couldn’t stop me but did warn me that if she was really sick, I didn’t need to be catching anything. “For sure girl you don’t need to be sick if she is sick… so it’s best to stay clear and hopefully you’ve had a flu shot” Rocco cut in wanting to get his say. I had not gotten a shot since my mother didn’t like them since for me it could be deathly “Umm not exactly but it’s a long story and trust me one that I don’t have time to get into right now” I sighed and went back to slowly eating and thinking to myself.
Once I finished my breakfast I looked into my phone’s data and found the hidden list my mother had left me so that if I ever got sick I knew what to buy or ask someone for help in getting the items. I headed towards the wing that held a very sick Leona and was immediately stopped when I tried to go up her stairs. “Ms. Ribbonowski that is not a good idea… she’s really sick and asked for you not to disturb her. She has her doctor coming today and should be here any min so please just trust me that right now is not a great idea to push her” Mrs. Fowler Leona’s house manager said. I was not about to give up that easy so waited a beat or two asked her if the house had any of the things on the list and she showed me to the kitchen. 10 mins or so later I was following the directions my mother had left me on how to make the liquid medicine that she used to give me after my brother had died and would give it to me around the seasons that were the worst for people getting sick. I followed it to the T and a few mins later it was ready with Mrs. Fowler watching as I downed the liquid that smelt like something died and tasted just as bad. “OMG…. I thought you were going to like spread it somewhere or like put it around the nostrils to keep the germs off” Mrs. Fowler said in such disgust she about lost her breakfast. “Nope I have to drink it, it’s an old family recipe that you take before you get sick and if there is someone sick around you. I ummm I am allergic to a lot of normal medications, so I have to take this” I did my best to explain of why I had to take it.
15 mins later I headed towards the stairs and was scolded again “Trust me I will be fine and I’d wait for the doctor, but I am worried about her and know a lot about medicine with my grandfather being a very renowned doctor in the states and around the world too” I hoped she would just get my drift and finally let up on me. Mrs. Fowler finally just let me go up but warned me the whole way until she couldn’t see me any longer or hear my footsteps. I walked softly and on tiptoes as I heard Leona sounding as though she was coughing up a lung and was crying in pain. “You really think that’s a good idea sis…. you have no idea what she might have and what if…. There are still things we don’t know about her family and this could be something that is… she could be dying…” Ethan was now scolding me which is what I had been already thinking. “Damn it I know Ethan why do you think I’m up here risking it and I’m not letting her just go that easy…. People do get sick and get healthy so either find out more on her family and tell me or just shut up and let me do what I’m going to do for now” I whispered with a sharp hiss. I listened a little longer at the door and just as I was about to knock a harsh voice came from behind me that I did not recognize “MISS RIBBONOWSKI….DON’T YOU DARE GO IN THERE…” I jumped back and waited for the man to approach me and as he got closer I could see he had to be no older than 30-35 years old. “Ummm excuse me….. why not…. I have protected myself with my family remedy and since I know….” “You don’t know shit little girl… now back up and just leave us… she’s been my patient for almost 10 years now and I have been here every time she’s had a sniffle, a cut on her finger.. just go away…” he was so forceful in a way that made me back up a step.
The Doctor didn’t bother knocking as he went right in and closed the door lightly and I couldn’t see a damned thing which irritated the shit out of me. “Well fuck you, you prick ass bitch…. I just wanted to see for myself and let her know I’m here for her too, but I guess she doesn’t need me all she needs is you so fuck it…” I bitched out. I was steaming with anger as I headed back down and to my wing leaving Leona who sounded sicker than I had ever heard someone sound. Bailey was waiting for me as I approached the main entrance door to the house with a look of “TOLD YOU SO” written so large on his face that it pissed me off. “OH FUCK OFF…. I GOT CLOSER THAN YOU DID ASS” I bitched and he just smiled. I got into the front seat of the truck and he took me on to school where I had arrived an hour early for it finding my professor hard at work. “Mia…. Good morning…. Really early for you… but glad you are here actually” he smiled as I took the steps down towards him. I dropped my bag in the seat in the front row and went to the large table that sat next to his podium and looked down at the photos spread out on it. “Tell me what you see here and don’t just answer right away look at it all as one, stand back a little if you need to….” Mr. Sheffield my law and justice professor suggested slightly.
The arrangements of photos told me that it was a horrible crime that had taken place and that there were older pictures mixed with newer ones, possible new leads to whatever crime that took place. There was more than just one victim and as I kept looking I honed in on a photo that caught my eye as being familiar and I about got sick. “OMG…. This is not just one crime, but many that has been taking place for years…. Jesus it just seems so familiar and I think I know exactly why…” I gasped as I went to my bag and pulled out my phone. I went to the photo gallery and connected my phone to the laptop on the table and as it powered up the imager, I put it up on the big screen. “Look at it… these are the ones from the case of Violina Campbell… where did you get these photos?” I asked in an urgent tone. Mr. Sheffield looked up at me “I don’t understand…. I mean I do but I don’t…. I have been getting these for a few years now and I had received this newest batch in my PO BOX last night. I just thought they were given to me because I have a website out there that I have asked for people to give me over the years for many different reasons. FUCK!” he was now getting sick to his stomach. He pulled up is website and we looked at it together and I knew a few things about hacking a computer and finding out IP address on members or visitors who had visited sites. “So why you sir… I mean I get the website and all which is a good idea, but I mean it seems like you have it mostly set for like hospitals, police station boards and law groups who might need help with their cold cases” I was now wrapped up in this and hoped we could figure this out.
